@adapttuition
@adapttuition 2 жыл бұрын
Hi 😊 If it’s $0.50 per share then we need to multiply by the number of shares. If you multiply the $2 you are then using the value of the shares. Check out my video on shares and dividends in my LLC playlist I explain it there too 😊 Keep up the good work 💪🏽🧠

Hey 😊 no worries, I totally get the desire to understand, you don’t have to apologize for that. If they have both the final dividend and interim dividend for the ordinary share, should calculate the final dividend in the income statement (not the interim) then put both interim and final dividend in the balance sheet
@adapttuition
@adapttuition 2 жыл бұрын
Hi 😊 that’s an interesting take. From what I know dividends are paid out of profit and are appropriations. As such, whether it was an interim or a final dividend it would still be shown in the appropriation account for the end of the period. Also, these items would only be shown in the balance sheet in the current liabilities section if they were owing at the end of the period. Since the interim dividend is paid earlier during the period it would not be owing at the end of the period and as such would therefore not be shown in the balance sheet. However, if you can point me in the direction of where you learned your approach I would be glad to take a read.

@adapttuition
@adapttuition 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for your question. It would help if you told me the question number, or the question name, or type the time in the video to which you were referring as it's difficult to know exactly which example/question you're talking about. If it's question 2 with Dub Lem Ltd then you can take a listen from about 09:30 in the video where I explain the logic behind what I did for the ordinary share dividend. The question tells us that the dividend per ordinary share is $0.50. The $2.00 is the par value which is the value assigned to the share. If you listen to 09:00 you will hear the explanation for the calculation of the preference dividend. Hope this helps.

please tell me when we calculate dividend amount at preference share we multiply no.of share with price and then after we take percentage on this price then we have comes the actual ammont of divident but in case of ordinary share why we do not multiply no. of share with price?
@adapttuition
@adapttuition 5 ай бұрын
HI! So, preference dividends are usually a percentage of the par value of the share, whereas with ordinary shares a fixed amount is usually paid per share. For example, there may be 1,000, 10% preference shares of $5 par value issued and outstanding. The dividend on them will be 10% of 1,000 x $5 = $500 There may also be 10,000 ordinary shares of $1 par value issued and outstanding, and the dividend payable may be $2 per share. So the calculation would be $2/share x 10,000 shares = $20,000 The ordinary dividend can also be percentage based but the question usually tells you what basis to use for each share.

Hi Shan, so you are correct about debenture interest being an expense. Sometimes however though the question gives you net income BEFORE debenture interest, which means that the debenture interest has not yet been deducted, and therefore before you do the appropriation account you have to subtract the debenture interest (or any other expense they HAVE NOT deducted but should have). @adapttuition
@adapttuition 2 жыл бұрын
Hi 😊 Ok, so I’m not entirely sure what you’re asking me. From what I can gather you need to do a balance sheet extract for the capital section of the balance sheet. When presenting information about the shares you should show their par value. For example, if the entity has 100,000 ordinary shares at a par value of $2 per share then you could show the following in your balance sheet under the share capital section: Ordinary shares (100,000 @ $2 each) = $200,000 So that way you communicate the number of ordinary shares, the par value per share, and the total par value of the 100,000 ordinary shares. I’m pretty sure I show this in the video. But I know sometimes ppl still have questions and I’m happy to answer. So I hope this answer helps 😊

Hi, to calculate net income you need to subtract expenses. If you don’t subtract net income then you didn’t find net income. Also, expenses don’t go in the appropriation account, they go in the expense section of the income statement.

@@adapttuition I did, so instead of putting less expenses and then calculating the total expenses, I calculated the expense and then calculated the net income, which was 1,100,000. If you understand what I’m saying.

Sir would you include depreciation or provision for depreciation under the expense column
@adapttuition
@adapttuition 3 жыл бұрын
Depreciation expense. It can be called the provision for depreciation sometimes. But be sure that you are using the depreciation charge for that year only in the income statement and NOT the total accumulated depreciation on the asset as at that date.

Hi Khia, Subscriptions accounts can be a bit tricky but you get the hang of it with practice. But also, they removed subscriptions accounts from the CSEC PoA syllabus in 2017. So you don’t have to know it for this upcoming exam.

Whatis the difference between partnership appropriation account and company appropriation account?
@adapttuition
@adapttuition 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! The appropriation account in both cases shows how the profits of the entity are distributed to the owners. In the case of a partnership the owners are the partners and the the distributions to them can take a few forms: interest on capital, partnership salaries, and a share of the profits/losses after the above mentioned appropriations. In the case of LLCs the owners are shareholders and the only appropriation that goes to them is dividends (ordinary and/or preferred). The only other appropriation of profits in the case of an LLC is the transfer to reserves (setting aside of $) for specific purposes such as fixed asset replacement or a general “savings”.

Hi sir does the ordinary share dividend divided into 6/12 also?
@adapttuition
@adapttuition 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Seema :) The directors can declare an interim dividend which is a dividend paid during the course of a year and not at the end of a year. Now if it's a per share dividend the 6/12 adjustment does not apply. If, however, it's a percentage dividend then I believe that the 6/12 adjustment would apply. Hope that helps.

Hi! So this comes with practice. My philosophy is I want important totals in my rightmost column. Any working to get those figures goes one column to the left And if any of those figures in the middle column need working I shift left one more time

Because it's a PER SHARE dividend. It's based on the NUMBER of shares outstanding Not the value of the shares like the preference shares.
