@1:21:35 they even somewhat reversed the trend between the uncommon 2-mana guildmage and the common hybrid card. In Ravnica, guildmages usually did great things on theme with their guild and the hybrid cards were pretty mediocre, but you could only really pick guildmages if you were in their guild and the unexciting hybrids could at list be a 23rd card in other guilds. And in Strixhaven, apprentices are harder-to-cast 2-drops with « meh » upsides, while pledgemages have pretty potent abilities and other schools can make good use of them. So it’s likely that pledgemages will be picked higher ‘cause they can fit in multiple color combinations and are good, while apprentices will most likely sit on your laps in later picks if you’re already in their school since no one else will want to choose their 2nd color or splash specifically for them.

Combat Professor- A Spiteful Squad- A- Hunt for specimens- B+ Pigment Storm- A- Professor of symbology- A- Prismari Apprentice- A Lorehold Apprentice is better than it looks. In lorehold aggro spirits (a legit archetype) you can usually finish most decks off, but against a strong deck you struggle to sink the last 5ish damage. With tons of cantrip cards in w/r this is really good for end of turn cantrip-ping for 4, cast another instant on my turn finish you off. Btw you are so fast they may stablize at 5 life while you are at 20+. You have plenty of turns to ping them.

I will be very happy If wizards is going to use keyword ward in the place of hexproof as the static ability of creatures that are hard to target. Hexproof works way better as a thing that is granted until end of turn by spending a card, I think this is also true with protection and indestructible. Creatures that just passively destroy interactivity are very bad for limited but if a player has to spend resources to protect them then it requires trade offs in both deck building and play

55:29 For Maelstrom Muse, I think the "as this ability resolves" comes into play if you attack and then Maelstrom Muse dies before you fire off the instant or sorcery. For example, if you're planning to cast a sorcery in main phase 2 and it dies in combat, or if they kill it in .response to declare attack step. Then the Muse has died before the ability resolves. The ability is still around and checks for its power, but finds nothing, so X=0. ( Please correct me if I'm wrong :-) )

The strange mana costs make it significantly easier to get into decks that are basically mono colour. If you’re mainly a green deck but have a few G/B lands then it’s still reasonable to cast on turn 4. Well, took me a couple days to have the time to fully work through this, but I have to say... I'm skeptical about Lorehold, it feels like it's a bit too finnicky, too many things that have to come together, like you need a couple Tome Shredders and payoffs to make it do the thing, and an essentially irreplaceable card as your repeatable enabler for all your payoffs worries me. Maybe it'll be fine, but I just have a hard time seeing a draft table supporting two Lorehold players, whereas it feels like the stronger colleges have to do that (since there are essentially only five meaningful color pairs in this set, at a draft table you'll end up having three colleges drafted by two players each and the remaining two colleges drafted by one each). I can't say for sure what the strongest colleges are, but I'm most skeptical of Lorehold right now.
