Limiting Reagent Vinegar or Baking Soda?

Vinegar and two different amounts of baking soda in plastic soda bottles with balloons.
Two 500ml soda bottles of the same make, split a bottle of vinegar between them.
11" balloons are pre-inflated with dry air, with care taken not to stretch the neck of the balloon. Into the balloons with a funnel go one, two teaspoons of baking soda. With 250 ml of vinegar, that's like six liters of gas potential if one carbon dioxide comes from one acid hydrogen ion.

An excellent demo to show kids, and that anyone can manage. Could you please note in the details, what concentration of vinegar you use? I'm guessing 5%; but of unflavored vinegars in Norwegian stores, I think we only have 7% and 35%. And the 35% is not something to play around with.

35% vinegar? You can use that as a stopping agent in the development of black & white photography! And I believe you should dilute that.

@@Humongous_Pig_Benis Yeah. It comes in 500ml bottles for about $6.50US. It was commonly used in foods before, diluted of course, but I've seen less of it in use as the years have gone by. It's a bit weird, since you can't get hold of most of the chemicals that appears to be household staples in the US. Borax for one comes to mind. And of pure sodium bicarbonate; there's a tiny 100g box at $3.50US, from a single brand, and nothing else... DIY is a bloody nightmare in Norway...

I used 10% vinegar for a faster reaction. The technic that is important for this demo is to inflate the balloons with dry compressed air before putting in the sodium bicarbonate. Relaxes the rubber so there’s more space for the bicarb, and reduces the chance of the balloon neck bulging and popping off the bottle.

Also, the 20g bottle is still cloudy while the 10g is not. Guessing this because of the presence baking soda in the reaction where it isn't the limiting reagent? another cool facet of your demonstration?
