Yes their debut album DEAD won Mercury but prior to that they Tape 1 and Tape 2 eps.. and now their fourth album Heavy Heavy is nominated for Mercury. Seen em about 10 times..they are INCREDIBLE live. I tell most, don't listen to them prior, just go to their Live shows and i promise you, you'll be blown away.

@@sirprintalot That is the stupidest argument ever. So everyone has to like Young Fathers? And if you dont like them, it is because you havent listened long enough? Im sure it wouldnt take you hours to figure out that you dont like a band, say for example you dont like Ed Sheerans type of singing, how many minutes or hours do you think you would listen to it, before judging that YOU dont like it? Exactly at the first tone of a singing voice that you dont like, you would turn it off. So then someone would zell you: Ed Sheeran is universally accepted by every living being as objectively GREAT music. The only reason you dont like it, is because you haven listened long enough. What a fucking dumb take. When youre as old as him and have a musical ear and a certain taste, its quick and easy to compare what you hear to everything you have ever liked in music. In 1 sec you can hear the mix down, mastering, voice, type of singing, instruments and samples used, effects used, etc etc. The only time you need longer is if you are UNSURE or if music changes a lot during one tune or one album. Its about taste and (musical) perception skills. I like jazz, certain types. If i check out that certain type of jazz, i just need to hear one instrument making one note and i can tell, if ill dislike it. Just by the way its miced down. Certain types of mix downs or mastering i just dont enjoy. Doesnt matter "how good" the music is... (mostly its as good as the mixdown, ergo its shite). If it sounds like a loud chart crap mix down, the music itsself will probably be exactly that.
