Back in that time, Lin Gaoyuen already is a well known junior player in mainland china table tennis community. Fan came out from nowhere and he had been drafted into chinese 2nd team player since then.

the three penholders are all beastly in terms of techniques. fan zhendong is 15 n it's pretty crazy. lin choked hard sucha pity. they can beat most european players i think. if in near future, michael maze lost to one of them, it would be so funny lolll. thanks for sharing!! :)

back then I thought both of their techniques were superb. FZD's forehand counterloop, is particularly good. LGY got the fundamentals, maybe there's weakness in defense, particularly in the armpit areas. but LGY somehow cant breakthrough the Chinese team internal competition. FZD is just epic.

lin plays smarter. problem is fan is too strong and lin's mental game isn't like fan's. every time he's up, he starts going cautious and that little bit of hesitation makes a difference vs fan, who maintains a high level of play through the entire match. fan doesn't have that much strategy actually. he just hits super hard. even aced ma long a bunch o.O

I think its more like a mentoring system rather than a line of development. Zhang plays exatcly like Kong Linghui, blocking near the table, and playing heavy spin shots. Zhou yu is following the same path as Zhang, with a more agressive forehand. There's Xu Xin with his playful style, Wang Liqin with a kille forehand. I think that the players have their on style, only influenced by who they are 'mentored' by.

Fan Zhendong's backhand is insane, and he didn't leave much chance for Lin to cho at all.

There are two quite clear lines in Chinese development...The power line is Zhang Jike, and then Fan Zhendong, then there is the speed line, Ma Long, Yan An, Lin Gaoyuan...

1) lin's idol was chen qi, that tells the story 2) these 2 are not gonna be at olympic 2016 unless they win like one of them won wttc twice this 4 years, which is like 0% lol 3) there is no point for the chinese team to make up age, becos they weren't even trying hard to win the tournament, they were just training new blood. the only reason to underreport age is to let the older players to play, no reason lol. these young players better grow taller.
