from stick welding 7018, silicon bronze brazing, even welding box cutter blades with er70s2 this machine can do it all. I LOVE the fact you can hook up 2 power sources without losing any response from the welder. the lightweight, easy interface just makes it that much easier. I would highly recommend this machine to ANYONE interested in welding or anyone looking to expand their capability with welding. good luck finding a machine with this much to offer for this price. I've owned mine for 2 years now and wouldn't trade it for anything. Lincoln Electric, WELL DONE making this beautiful machine.

Very nice review, A few years back around Labor Day weekend, Lincoln offered the Tig 200 and MiG 210 together for just over $2000.00. I jumped in and got them both. Took a little over 24 hour after I ordered it was on the dock at Haun Welding. Great deal. Thanks for taking the time to review it. Dave

The square wave 175 was my first TIG welder. It is a great machine and despite it's limitations does a great job and is a good choice for the beginning welder because there is very little to get out of adjustment. Compared to the SW200, the SW175 is big and heavy. The SW200 is an asysmetric TIG inverter capable of up to 150hz when welding in AC. It will run on 110v or 220v. On the other hand, the SW175 is a sinusoidal transformer driven machine that can only produce 60hz when welding in AC, and will only run on 220v AC. We are not really comparing apples to apples here. The only draw back I see to the SW200 when compared to the SW175 is that it has a lot of PC boards inside it, those can get expensive.....the SW175 is basically a big transformer with a few small PC boards for control circuits. Lincoln has backed up the SW200 with an industry leading warranty to show that they have faith in the machine. I do not expect any longevity issues with ANY of the bigger welding companies, as they have reputations to protect. As for the over the pond elcheapo such as the Duralast, well....good luck.

The TIG torch is without button, so I wonder if the welder stops the gas automatically, or not ? (Unless the gas bottle loses gas ...)

I have been doing a bit of research on this Tig welder ( Newbie looking to buy one ) and for what information that i manage find from my local welding supply store on the gas usage, the answer was that the gas is factory set ( regulated ) on the machine and control by the amperage that you set it at..( The higher the amperage the longer the gas post flow, which for what i was told would be as high as 16 seconds and to me this seem like quite a bit of gas usage ..Like i mention i am NOT a pro but i do like like to do my homework before investing my $$ and this to me is not a game changer but it seems to be one of the drawbacks of this machine

Miko1992 Miko, the tig 200 has a internal gas flow solenoid. 1st quick light foot pedal tap the pre flow gas starts. Fully depressed pedal starts the arc and gas. After letting off the pedal post flow continues for 5-10 seconds great for aluminum and stainless... I have a remote torch switch when welding inside boats. On or off. Amps. Frequency and A/c balance has to be set on the machine before hand. This is a great machine for 1/8" aluminum any thicker.. it welds but.. you must preheat accordingly! (Remember its Only a 200 amp machine). It will weld stainless or steel any gauge. I use it for pontoon boat repair, Stainless thin wall sanitary pipe (with back purg) and anything you want a nice weld🤗. Highly recommended!

Here's a tip for you: Check out the multiple camera angles in the first minute. Totally unnecessary and distracting. It took time to do that, and made your video worse. It's like I'm standing in your garage and I keep getting teleported somewhere else. It's a really un-natural perspective for the audience, because nobody is going to play hopscotch while listening to you talk about welding. Anybody standing in your garage is basically going to stand in one spot. Cutting in a close up camera angle is good for details, but all the rest is annoying.

Sounds like you got a good one. After waiting for 7 weeks backorder for my TIG 200 to arrive I picked it up day before yesterday on Thursday. The following day (Friday) I powered it up only to find that it was inoperable. The fan came on (very noisy) and the gas solenoid clicked on and started flowing gas. Nothing ever showed up in the led display and nothing further happened. After troubleshooting every way I could think of with no results, I contacted Lincoln tech support who advised me to return it to the local weld supply store where I purchased it. I did that yesterday and they said they would try to get it fixed. Maybe Senior Lincoln should have spent a little more time on quality control before it left the plant in Mexico. I'm very disappointed in Lincoln at this point.

I just put a deposit on a new machine here in Australia, latest tech PFC, Inverter, it's a Mig Tig Stick machine from Bossweld which I don't know if you guys in the states have access to the brand?. It's a 250 machine and it has some features that I haven't seen in videos but I'm willing to bet you guys have them in the Lincolns, Hobarts and Millers, pre flow, soft start, burn back and post flow to name a few. It's got the spool gun switch and hearing how impressed you are with that machine got me thinking that with all the new features that will continue to show up on these smaller machines, it's possible that even the new welders out there will be able to pick up these newer machines and weld much better, much sooner. It's actually really good that these companies are helping us noobs with all these features and at the same time, they are improving the internals. Exciting times ahead, that's for sure.

Stumbled across this video looking for info on the SW200. I've heard your name while watching Kieth Rucker's videos, and after viewing this presentation, I'm subbing. I'm looking at buying a TIG welder and I think I'm sold on the SW200. I wish it went down to 5 amps but not sure how important that really is (I would use this mostly for small gun parts). I can see that a adjustable post flow could be a nice feature, but I read your comments regarding the automated post-flow being based on amperage and that sounds alright. The machine I was taught on and occasionally use is a Miller Econotig. It only gets down to around 23 amps in DC and the post flow lasts forever. This welder seems like a major step up. I also like the 120 volt option, as I could see using this thing as a semi-portable stick welder. I think this will work out very well. Thanks for the video. John T.

+blackjack6934 Great news. That is why I am a big Lincoln fan! The customer service is number one. I have only had a couple of issues in my 30 or so years welding, but Lincoln has always been super to deal with. I can tell you from first hand experience that the other guys are NOT that way. They probably want the old machine in the lab at the factory (I've been there). They will tear it apart and figure out what went wrong, if it was shipping damage, or a faulty part. Believe it or not they can trace a bad part all the way to the guy who made it. I have had the privilege to tour the plants and see the machines going down the line being made. Very impressive.

I know this is 4 years after the fact but I'm curious why there is no mention of pre-flow/poet-flow control with this machine. Other than that consideration I really like the ease of operation exhibited by this machine. I currently run a 200 amp AC/DC tig machine without frequency control and I won't make that mistake again when I get my next tig machine. Really good video-straight to the point.

What I think Jim try to say is the foot pedal vary the amps till you stop pressing on it. Another thing I like about the Lincoln is they display the list price right in the web site. That is a key spec of the machine. I hated it at car dealers when you have trouble just to get a lowest price from them without signing for it.

It most likely is a leak in the argon line. Be sure to check the connections at the regulator and at the back of the welder. If that doesn't get it try spraying soapy water around the regulator to find the leak.

Mine came jacked up.. loose wires inside and the foot pedal wires were a mess as well.. sent it back to the place I bought it ..they sent it to an authorized lincoln repair company in butler Pennsylvania.. they had it 2 months.. I personally went to pick it up asked what was wrong with it..they said loose wires and its fixed.. took it home would hardly tig weld.. it was all over the place.. I pulled the plug apart on the foot pedal. Found bare wires touching and melting stuff.. called them they said they never touched the plug.. wired it up myself.. runs ok... Same thing happened with the 210mp the mig side of things were trash.. the motor ran intermittently like it was a pulse gun or something. So I bought a brand new motor for it and it ironed out some of the issues. Yes I know these are entry level machines.. and I'm a Lincoln guy to and through. But I'll be buying a miller for my next machine.

Great video Jim. How's the duty cycle on the machine? Have you tested it? There's one thing I think you should have mentioned, especially for beginners. Any direct current CC machine can stick and TIG weld. A foot pedal is an additional feature, like pulse or post flow. I really enjoyed the video and that looks like a very nice machine. I hope you try stick welding with it before you send it back, and let us know how that goes.
@jimbollinger7396
@jimbollinger7396 8 жыл бұрын
+Cory ,Tthe duty cycle is approx this: sixty percent of output gives you 60% duty cycle, seventy-five percent of weld output gives you 40% duty cycle. That'ts just a rough est. try this link for the exact specs. www.lincolnelectric.com/en-us/Equipment/Pages/product.aspx?product=K5126-1(LincolnElectric). When you get time, watch the video again, I do mention that the machine can do both, TIG and stick. It's around the place where I talk about it being a constant current machine. Thanks for watching!
@Lambear82
@Lambear82 8 жыл бұрын
I did hear you mention that. I just wouldn't want people to think that you need a foot pedal or torch switch in order to TIG weld. Scratch start is possible with any DC stick machine. To simplify, any DC stick machine can TIG weld, and any DC TIG machine can stick weld. I did check out the link you sent me, and I may purchase the Squarewave 200. Thanks for the reply, and keep the videos coming!

thanks for the video. I did not see anything mentioned about gas. I seem to be going through gas quicker than I think I should. I have my CFH set at 19-20 which I believe was recommended by Lincoln. I seems that the gas stays on for up to 20-30 seconds after I release the foot pedal. My understanding is that it should be a second or two at the most, not 20-30.... Is that a way to change this? I've gone through 2 tanks of gas in a relatively short period of time. Thanks for any information.

On the SW200 post flow is a component of your actual welding current. Most of the time, post flow is 10-15 seconds. If you are welding aluminum, you can get away with a shorter post flow than if you were welding something like stainless steel or titanium. Nickle based alloys as well as titanium can be damaged by the atmosphere long after they have cooled below their glowing red temperature and are no longer molten. A long post flow time is needed in this instance to keep the atmosphere away while the work cools. The SW 200 is set up as an asymmetric TIG inverter, at a very low cost. To keep the costs down (by not having to buy the actual components) Lincoln allows the machine to calculate your actual weld current and adjust post flow by a predetermined algorithm. That algorithm takes in to account if you are welding SS or titanium. That's a bit wasteful if you are welding aluminum, but you just bought a TIG inverter for around $1400.00 US. The last one I bought cost me over 6k US. If you TIG weld low current you should (according to Lincoln) see less post flow time than if you are at a higher current. I Used a SW200 recently teaching for a week. We ran probably 5.5 hrs of hands on time every day. A standard 120cf bottle lasted me about 3 days. If you are getting drastically different results, take it to your local weld supplier and have it checked out.

5 seconds or until the tungsten is no longer red. The tungsten should not look dark at all. If it still is after 5 seconds, bump it up a second or two

+blackjack6934 The reason you don't see the obvious answer is because it's not that easy to give a straight answer. But to give you some ideas, 200 amps in TIG will get you to around 1/4 on aluminum, maybe 5/16 on steel and SS. but remember I am talking about single pass. You can do multi pass on thicker material. On the stick side 1/8 electrode (the most common size used for general stuff) runs between 85 amps and 135 amps (depending on rod type). You can make as many passes as needed with 1/8 electrode to get it welded. I have welded 1 inch plate (fillet) with 1/8 electrode by doing multiple passes and proper joint setup. The Square wave 200 will replace Lincolns square wave 175, the SW175 has been Lincolns goto entry level machine for probably 30 years+. As a matter-a-fact it was my very first TIG welder. The SW200 gives way more bang for much less buck!

I am looking for a AC/DC Tig welder, wanting a easy machine to setup and run would be welding mild steel most of the time it would be 1/4" and less but if needed can do 5/16"-3/8", aluminum would be 1/4" and less. Would this be the best machine in it's price range $1500 or is there a better weld around the same price range that's just as easy to use. If there's another welder the consumables must be readily available without the need to wait or special order them online. Also it must have a warranty as good as Lincoln & Miller. Thanks

One other quick question, I was at Home Depot looking at their welding rods for the stick, is there one better then another? I just need it for general purpose welding on mild steel.. what would you recommend? Thanks in advance... Jack
@DoRiteFabrication
@DoRiteFabrication 8 жыл бұрын
+blackjack6934 That is the question that men will argue for eternity. I like Lincolns Excalibur 7018. 7018 is a good general purpose rod that yields 70,000 psi of strength when welded correctly (that's what the 70 in 7018 stands for) I like the Excalibur rods so much better the other companies they just seem to start better and run smoother than other 7018. The 6011 and 6013 work well too. 6011 runs good on cleaner metal and I save the 6013's when I have metal that I cant get clean for whatever reason. The 6013 seem to burn through scale and rust while still yielding an acceptable weld. I use the 6013 in farm implements and that kind of stuff. It is an argument that men will continue to have for all time, like Chevy or Ford, or Cummings or Cat.......

+DoRite Fabrication Well, just got my Welder a few days ago, I installed 230 in the garage, got everything unpacked, started the machine up and only the fan comes on, tried 110 volts and same thing. No lights, no LED, am I missing something here? There are no other buttons to push other then a reset button on the back, but that wasn't trip or didn't feel like it was tripped! Do I return the welder? It was a brand new welder.

+blackjack6934 Sorry, it has taken me time to get to you. I have had family in from out of state. You need to check the incoming power and be sure that you have 220 volts to the back of the machine (check the voltage in the female part of the plug that goes into the back of the machine) you can do this with a volt meter set to AC. If you don't know how, have a buddy who know help. If you have 220 volts and the ground is good (That is the third wire in the plug. Inverters are funny, they like a GOOD ground) Then the problem is probably in the machine. Most likely the UPS guy got a little excited when he saw the new machine and was a little rough on it. Lol Take it back and ask for a new one. Keep me up to date on what you find out.

+DoRite Fabrication Thanks for the quick reply, I tried to run it on both 120 and 230 and got the same results. I'm getting 122 volts and 238 . I'm within that 10% + or- . I checked the the ground inside the panel and have it hooked up to the ground bar, not much else I can do. So it's got to be the machine. Of course the company is closed on weekends, so I have to wait until tomorrow before I see what they say, but I'll keep you updated. The problem now will be waiting another 5 to 6 weeks for another one... sucks!

Hi, one more question, on this new Lincoln Tig -200 , I find that when I close the valve on the tank itself, that a few seconds later you loose all pressure on both gauges.. Is that normal? I don't remember any regulator doing that in my past experience... Is this a new safety feature? Or bad regulator?

When you stick weld do you use about 120 Amps? How do you use this without blowing a circuit at the house? What is the best settings for Tig with 120V. Thank you
@pairadice49
@pairadice49 7 жыл бұрын
depends on the thickness you are welding but I tend to try to stay under 120A on 120v. as for stick welding, you can easily throw in a 3/32 7018 and cruise at 85A all day.

How can you have a machine that gives you 200 amps at the work, but only use a 20 amp circuit? Seems to me the breaker will pop the first time you "give it the gas."
@DoRiteFabrication
@DoRiteFabrication 6 жыл бұрын
Ohms law applies here. Power(wattage) is the constant. Arc voltage (16-30 volts approx) is lower than the 120volt wall current so more current (amps) is available. Full output is not achieved on 120v 20 amp outlet. To go to the full output of the machine you need 220v.

Its all about watts. 200v @ 1 amp is 200 watts 1v @ 200 amps is 200 watts

what is asymmetric about it?
@DoRiteFabrication
@DoRiteFabrication 8 жыл бұрын
+gmaestro79 Boy, that is a very complicated question! An AC wave form (as seen on an oscilloscope) is symmetric. Meaning that the wave above the zero line mimics the wave below the zero line. A general principal to remember in TIG welding in AC is, (in simple terms) that when the AC wave is above the zero line it is positive, and when it is positive it is CLEANING not welding. When the wave is below the zero line it is negative, and when it is negative it is PENETRATING the base metal or welding. Now we know that only 50% of the time the wave form is negative or welding. So we can say that the welder (in simple terms again) is 50% efficient. If we shift the wave to spend more time on the negative side of the zero line, then the welding machine becomes more efficient because it is welding more and cleaning less. When we make this shift, the wave is no longer symmetric .We refer to this as asymmetric. Usually only inverter machines have this option, we refer to it as AC balance. I hope to do a series of videos on TIG welding and how the AC wave effects the weld procedure. Hopefully by the summer.
