My Walters ancestors owned the land next to the Sinking Springs farm. When my grandmother was alive, she always told me we were related to Abraham Lincoln. Through much research, we learned that we are indeed connected through Nancy Hanks. There is also a story that one of my female ancestors was there to help deliver Abraham Lincoln when he was born.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit! It's best when neighbor helps neighbor! I never thought my lineage was anything special. But found out my Mom has the same name & birth day as our great ------grandmother. Who landed at Jamestown I'm the mid 1600s. Also found out there were never any slave owners in my lineage!❤ From what I saw growing up, they would have been more inclined to be helping the underground railroad!❤A part of our history I absolutely loved to read about as a child!

I have become an American history addict. Give credit for that to John Jakes and Dana Fuller Ross. They are what got me started with their historical novels. Now, whomever puts something together on you tube or elsewhere has me listening and enthralled. I would have to be in America a long, long time should I have the opportunity to visit all the historical sites I'd love to see. It's made me want to be American! You have a new subscriber.

When you think about it, these people in the CW were really close to the founding of the country. I have always thought that if Lincoln had of lived, he would did a lot better job than Johnson leading the country out of the CW. That said, Lincoln was a strong leader and good politician

That is true, they were only a couple generations fresh from the Civil War and they looked at the country much different than we do today. Lincoln had a lot of ideas of how to help build the South back quicker and his death unfortunately probably made it a lot harder on them to recuperate.

How do you tell the difference between an American Northerner from that of an American Southerne ... Without a Uniform? You can't! They are still ALL AMERICANS. Johnson was more concerned with rebuilding the south than what to do with all of the freed slaves. It’s disgusting how shabbily the former slaves were treated. Former slaves were homeless and starving, and without the means to make money and obtain their own home. Very sad.

@@marilyn6556 I am not sure what he was trying to do. He was at odds with congress period. That said he gave amnesty to the former confederates, which he should not have done. They should have lost their citizenship, the right to hold offices and vote. The way he handled it, they just went back to doing what they were doing, just called it something else.

Johnson was a Democrat and didn’t have the same values as Lincoln. He chose him thinking after the war that he could help reach out to the southern states to help bring the country together. Johnson was busy undoing what President Lincoln was trying to accomplish & slowed things down. When President Grant took office, he went about working on the plan that President Lincoln had in mind to help the freed slaves etc.

My friend & I just visited this site today. I wish you would have panned the whole property. The covered bridge that Steve mentioned is rebuilt now and goes over a creek leading to yet another log cabin. Standing in the middle of this property gives you and amazing feeling of stepping back in time.

Abraham Lincoln and his siblings actually were schooled while living in Indiana. They were members of my 4th Ggrandfathers church at Hurricane Creek. They were roving preachers back then so he preached at many churches in the area and was the teacher for the communities children. My Grandfather was Adam Shoemaker, he had 4 sons one of which grew up to become State Representative while Lincoln was President. They ran into each other the first time with a reporter near by and his statement was recorded, “Are you my old teachers son?” He asked, the reply came “Yes Mr. President”. So they did have instructors in those back hills of Indiana, even if they had no schools, they had Churches. On a side note, my Mom was born in a dirt floor log cabin not far from this area in 1925. They used the logs from her home to repair some of the buildings around the Lincoln Family Home here in Indiana. She also found Adam’s log cabin and we moved it to where it stands now fully renovated in the Schubal-Little Pioneer Village.

Sarcoidosis is not a Black disease per se black women have more than black men. The disease has crossed all color lines all over the world. Jewish men, Indian women (India), Chinese, Canadian, etc. have been diagnosed. I have hD I t for 46 years and I believe that people who live in areas near certain industrial areas is the cause (I grew up two blocks from the Roman Cleanser (bleach) plant and I have found 52 people in an eight block radius of the plant diagnosed with it - Black and white.

Nancy was not of mixed race. Her mother ,Lucy Hanks , a teenager was made pregnant by the owner of Virginia plantation neighboring the Joseph Hanks land. Additionally, Mordecai lived only a few short miles from Squire Boone in Exeter, PA while Squire Boone, Daniel Boone's father, lived in Birdsboro, PA. The Mordecai Lincoln House is a historic house in Exeter Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania built c. 1733 by Mordecai Lincoln, the great-great-grandfather of President Abraham Lincoln. The house stands in the narrow valley of Hiester Creek on a 9-acre plot near the village of Lorane on Lincoln Road

What isn't mention in the story is while living at Knob Creek Farm Nancy Hanks Lincoln gave birth to another son in 1812 or 1813. A baby boy name Thomas Jr. named for his father. He lived about three days according to Nancy's cousin Dennis Hanks. He was buried in the Redmon Cemetery that overlooked the farm where they lived. In restoring that cemetery a crude tombstone was discovered with the initials T L.

My 3x great grandmother Lavinia Logsdon was born in Priceville, Hardin County, Kentucky. Her father was William Logsdon IV and her mother was Elizabeth “Betsy” Carman, and her grandparents were Joseph Carman and Mary LaRue. She married Illia Atterbury I. 1830 while the family lived in Hardin County. Lavinia was born in December 1809. According to family information, Lavinia’s aunt was the midwife in Hardin County. And that Lavinia and Abraham were “rocked in the same cradle” during visiting. There was also a close family relationship that the Carman’s and LaRue’s had with the Boone family, as some of the siblings of Betsy Carman were named after members of the Boone family. It would be interesting to find out more about these relationships and my Family’s time in Kentucky. This is my maternal (mtDNA) line.

I'm also related to Abe Lincoln i believe he's related to my mom's dad funnily enough alot of my ancestors helped found alot of Virginia.. Americas oldest continually running Lutheran Church est in 1775 has a corner stone installed by my grandma Darnell's family but her moms family before she married my grandpa i wouldn't be surprised if half the folks you cover don't have one or more of my relatives 😊

Recently I have found that my uncle is 2nd cousin 6 times removed with Abraham Lincoln. My uncles family are Hanks and they ended up down here in South Louisiana. And his other side of them family are Footes who have ties with the George Washington family.
