Lincoln Welding Helmet repair

I bought a lincoln 3350 welding helmet a few years ago as an upgrade from my cheap helmet. After a while it started going through batteries like crazy. I tried different brands of batteries and there was no difference. I finally decided to fix it after the batteries went dead after the helmet had sat for less than 2 weeks without being used.

That's my story too.🤬 Why is it that whenever I go to use my welding helmet (which isn't often) the battery is dead? Why is current being drawn when the helmet is just lying there? Should I be storing it in the black bag it came in, for some reason? It is very perplexing because these things have no on/off switch.

What is this skill for wiring electronics called?🤔 I'm interested in learning how to re-wire. Did a quick search and saw something called Arduino.

I have a new 3350 I have the same trouble its a POS for the money and its to heavy

Is your helmet one with the new 4c lense? It's supposed to be an upgrade that doesn't go through batteries and is clearer. I haven't tried many other welding helmets is there a kind you like?

My automatic lens from esab sentinel a50 is no let me move the settings for shade, can you give me a hand

Hey man i've got the same Lincoln/Viking helmet that eats batteries , would love to do this mod to mine . Could you post a parts list for us guys wanting to do the same thing ?

Sure, I will look up what I ordered. It's been working ok but sometimes I forget to un plug it and the rechargeable battery dies.

Here are the parts I used and a quick description of how they go together. Some of them are multi-packs of stuff that I got to use with other projects so you might want to search for a lower quantity but the prices are cheap enough. diyvt.org/2021/01/06/welding-helmet-repair/

@@loganlariviere8867 I did contact them, it was past its warranty. They did offer to sell me a replacement screen for a "discounted" price that was something like $20 less than an new version of the same entire helmet from Amazon.

I think it’s the energizer batteries. I had the same problem. Same helmet. Fresh energizer battery, died after 2 wks. There is something seriously wrong with those energizer batteries… try another brand.

@@diyVT any brand but energizer lol. I had a cheapo helmet prior to this one that came with a cheap battery. Never an issue, always worked. Haven’t had a battery change for 3+yrs.

Love the idea but not dust friendly in an industrial shop!

It's been good so far although now that you mentioned dust maybe I will put a piece of tape over the hole. Probably not safety inspector approved. I have gotten into the habit of pushing the test button before I start welding. Before the batteries would go so dead even the low battery indicator wouldn't work.
