Pursuit of dangerous driver in Skegness

Dashcam and body worn video footage of a pursuit of a dangerous driver through a busy seafront holiday area in Skegness and Ingoldmells in August 2022. The pursuit lasted around six minutes, covering a distance of three miles.
The driver was sentenced to 14 months in prison and disqualified for three years.

Multiple opportunities to ram the vehicle, but I'm not too sure you people do stuff like that. Ramming may not be proper. LOL

The police do use tactical contact but only when authorised and when it doesn't pose an unacceptable risk to the public. It is rare to see contact used with a single pursuit vehicle. The British police prefer the TPAC (box a vehicle in and force it to a safe stop) than the pit manoeuvre as they prefer to bring in offenders that are still breathing and with minimal risk to the public

UK Police do ram, but only if it's necessary and safe to do so.

As said at the start of the commentary, driver as only 'initial pursuit trained'. So while there were opportunities, he's not explicitly allowed to do it, but that doesn't mean he can't make his own decision under common law. I think it would have been proportionate in order to STOP the driver from heading into a heavily populated area, but that's criticism with hindsight and the cops have a choking amount of policy to navigate and remember while trying to make split second decisions. They did very well, and got their man! Top work.

There’s no point ramming a vehicle potentially disabling the police car when there is no other resources to carry on the pursuit If ramming it doesn’t disable the suspect car
