Great hearing what Barbara Streisand's take was for the reason from her friend. I sure wish Elvis had been able to do that film. He would have been fabulous!

tough to say what the real story was.... I also saw a interview with Lamar Fike and sonny ( i believe in 'all the kings men" ) that Elvis did not want to do it, did not want to put forth the effort and told the colonel to make the price so high that there would be no way they would pay it. Thus ultimately putting the blame on the "greedy col" when in fact Elvis just did not want to do it. anyway, Elvis should of done it- I think he would of kicked ass in that movie.

Though a great movie would have been great the Col was right about what the plot was. Many would have compared Elvis’s real life to the movie.

So many ""what ifs" ...Ultimately ,it was Elvis' decision whether or not to sign the contract. He must have agreed with Parker that it would be a bad idea to do the role? 🤔. Always nice to see The Thompsons.

The Colonel didn't want Elvis to play 2nd billing to Barbara either . And I agree with That

Interesting. Geez, I've heard so many stories about why Elvis didn't do A Star Is Born. It's too bad. Would love to have seen Elvis in this part (except the dying at the end 😜). Wish he'd have stood up to Parker if this was something he really wanted to do. I did see it with Kristofferson in 1976 and again more recently. Thanks for asking that question. I actually agree with the Colonel on this. Elvis was already on a downward slope that was visible, and the movie would emphasize this image and idea further in people’s minds. Especially if it would be successful and Elvis would be great in it. (Which I think) Then he himself would be helping to ruin his own image, by making a great acting performance. And if he didn’t make a great acting performance, or if critics and the public thought that, he would ”make a fool” of himself that way. I don’t think he could have won by doing this movie, and apparently The Colonel realized that, and probably Elvis too. It is a big irony that although he didn’t do the movie, he made it happen, with a lot of similarities to the plot, in real life instead. But at the time before the movie was made, completed and released this hadn’t happened yet. In hindsight we can see it.

But Elvis died in other movies, so it could not have been a problem. The article "Will Elvis be Barbra'next" is perhaps a better reason why Elvis "wanted to get of it".

I don't like that movie. Every song in my personal opinion was horrible. It was far from King Creole. I'm glad he didn't do it.
