I agree with so many of these tips! I’m a corporate recruiter and also give 1-1 coaching however when I tell people to customize their resume people don’t like hearing it. However, IT WORKS! Please listen to her and take the effort to customize your resume to each application. It’s not quantity but quality. Don’t just throw the same resume out to 50 jobs instead focus on 20 or 25 and target your resume to those that you’d be a good match for. Great video!

@JessicaHicks3 жыл бұрын
Most recruiters don’t like reading cover letters. Keep it straight to the point. Your interest, relevant skills or success highlight and wrap it up with reiterating your interest. Spend more time on the resume, networking and interview practice.

Phuong Vu, in the description section of this video, she put a link for cover letter preparation also. Go click on that link & it'll bring you to her recommendations. Also, she's done a few videos on cover letters in the past also. Just look in her channel's playlist or search "Linda Raynier cover letter" in KZbin & you'll find the videos.

Where would we put our certifications on a resume? (Ie. CPR, BLS, CPHT, ). A lot of hiring managers in the healthcare industry look for someone with soft skills and hard skills. They especially want someone that is patient-centric and has excellent customer service. How would you suggest incorporating that?

Thank you for giving that tip about the resume length! It's not realistic to have 1 page resume for someone who have over 10 years of experience.

2:19 "You hear all kinds of things from people saying that jobs are hard to come by these days. I don't believe it." Ms. Raynier, you need to venture out from the gated community where you live and drive your Lexus downtown, where real people struggle to get by.

Alright, You say that a resume should be no more than two (2) Pages Standard. But, what if you are dealing with someone who was in the military, From what I understand their resume is going to be longer than that? Longer than just Two (2) pages. And I've seen your videos, Good Information. Military people have more than two pages to a resume when it comes to getting a job in civilian life.

Dear Linda, thanks for the video that you put a lot of effect. I still have a question. I study have accounting and I have been doing accounting job for 10 years however i didn't study CPA or CA because I really don't want to doing a accounting job. I really want to do a data analysis job. how to switch the accounting job to the data analysis job since i don't have any experience about the job. do I need to take a course to study the data analysis job? i am in my late 40s, it is too old to change my career path? very appreciated if you can come back to me. regards
@JessicaHicks3 жыл бұрын
It’s never too late to transition careers! If you’re working now I’d suggest connecting with some already working as a data analyst. You can learn from them and gain mentorship. It can be easier sometimes to transition to another job by taking on work projects while in your existing role. That will give you a start with getting knowledge and experience. Just a thought!

is her advice actually solid or not? I am trying to get a better job at around the 80k to 100k range. But I am not sure who to trust.
@JessicaHicks3 жыл бұрын
I think she is giving solid advice, however everyone situation is different.
If you don't have any significant job experience yet, just put your profile section and then your education section. Highlight your school achievements, if any, like prizes/competitions you've won & special contributions /tutoring, whatever helps to make you stand-out. If you have volunteer work or part-time job experience, you should still add that to your resume because it will showcase your social skills & experience. Your resume may only be 1 page in that case, but that is still ok. A company hiring a recent graduate does not expect much more than that.

Hey Linda, I’m looking to switch over from financial services to marketing. I’ve been interested in marketing for a while now however, my experience has primarily focused around financial services, customer service and sales, I have implemented marketing strategies in my jobs in the past so I have included that in my resume. My main concern is that will these skills be transferable enough. I’m currently taking online courses on Digital Marketing and Graphic Design to better equip myself for a position I’m interested in applying to. I want to make sure I’m prepared, but in the mean time I’m looking to go a head and apply for the role before it expires. Would you say thats premature or go ahead. Also, I did used a website that detects whether or not I would closely match to a job and it was suggesting to update job titles. I would like to know what your thoughts are on this. Thanks :)

Listening to these career coaches offering advice on how to write a resume make me wanna eat a bullet. I don’t know why I listen to them. Maybe I think that I will gain some great unknown knowledge on how to write my résumé. I listen to these career coaches like a moth is attracted to a light bulb. Just like we all are addicted to watching the pimple popper. She may be an expert in her field. It is quite possible that thousands of college graduates get jobs because of her advice. Yes I am hardened, calloused and pissed off at the world.
