How to Block a Quilt!

I understand this process, using this on wall hangings, etc. makes all the difference. However, I'm going to have to hire movers to move the concert grand for space enough to lay down a queen sized quilt! Thanks, Corey, another great video!

My mom blocked her crocheted doilies on a refrigerator cardboard box. She drew circles with her plates to line the doily up with before pinning. It's a sweet memory.

At first I couldn't concentrate on what you were doing because I was mesmerized by the quilt. It's so pretty! Thanks so much for demonstrating and explaining. Now I know why my wall hanging was bowing out from the wall! I will block it before next winter. It hasn't been laundered. Should I wash it before I block it?

Isn't it stunning:) One of our favorites! Washing it prior is a personal preference. It will cause the fabrics and batting to give that natural heirloom wrinkled look, unless you pre-washed your fabric and used poly batting. If you want it to have the same look it already has, just lay flat then I wouldn't wash it and just follow the steps in the video:) Thank you! Corey

I never knew this was something I was supposed to do! I have a “baggy” wall hanging and I’m going to try it. I have two questions. Does it have to be done every time you wash a quilt? Does the quilt need to be laying down flat? Or can I do it vertically in my design wall? Your instructions are so great! Thank you.

Thank you for watching! Every time I wash I would reblock, but I normally only block quilts that I do not plan on washing so I dont have to repeat the process:) It needs to lay flat on the floor when you block.

I'm concerned about color bleed when spraying with water because I used bright blues and reds in my quilt. Will I need to get the entire quilt damp to block it or can I just spray the borders? Excellent video. Thank you!

I haven’t experienced bleeding with the light misting you do for this, but I can totally see the concern. You would need to get the whole quilt misted for the stretch to happen properly.

Does it work any differently if the batting is wool? I have a Dream Big with a layer of cotton and a layer of wool. Thanks for a great video!!!

If you make one right from the start, no need to block. I’ve had quilts traveling in the Hoffman Challenge for years. Have award winning quilts, published my own patterns. No need to block. The only things I block are my knitted or crochet quilts.
