Actually, you'd be surprised. The amount of drivers who will drive around (or into) a firetruck (even with lights on), just because there were no police to stop them is appalling. A substantial number of firefighters have been injured because of people who just disengage their brains once behind the wheel.

They most likely had to charge the lines to get an adequate water pressure through the lines after establishing a good supply of water through the lines and from the truck itself. I'm not a firefighter, so do not quote me on this...but I think this is why it took more than a minute to get the water flowing.

That's a good question and maybe someone knows. I don't think it would be a water supply issue as the engine carries about 1,000 gallons. Enough for about 5 or so minutes of firefighting. The water supply can be established during that five minutes.

Bin lorry didn't appear to have one either, or rather there is no sign of one being used, and maybe for the same reasons, litigation. Ask an employee to fight a fire without PPE leaves the company wide open to being sued if the employee gets injured. A policeman on a UK cop show said they don't carry them, as they are not allowed to fight fires, Its just the world we live in these days.

What’s interesting is the guy on the hose putting out the fire and at the same time sending the flames and possible burning embers towrads the house on the opposite side of the truck. If they go to the other side of the truck all that crap is sprayed into the unoccupied street. It was likely a blown hydraulic line onto the hot exhaust.

A ladder truck generally carries lots of stuff in addition to ladders - stuff that might be useful. For example, say the driver of the garbage truck was trapped, the ladder truck probably carries extrication equipment. You don't know when the alarm comes in, so send it - no harm done and you can always return it.

What do you think would’ve happened to a person standing that close using a fire extinguisher who was wearing a short sleeve shirt and zero fire rated PPE? Seen this happen a few times. Common issue is leaking or worn hydraulic lines. That flare up can happen when a line burns through. There's a reservoir there that's been getting pretty warm. Once it's extinguished, that variable nozzle should be repositioned a bit. Partial bale, just a nice rain on those components to cool them off.

dahm they are slow, almost one minute from arrival to water is on, almost every european firetruck (if not all) are equipped with two high pressure lines, rolled up in the truck, ready to pull out and turn, everything og this is always connected, just turn the pump on, and ready to go, it will take less then 20 sec...

Would have liked to see an extinguisher put to work here but this worked out okay... charging a trash line off a bumper should have been pretty straight forward but yet oddly delayed- gives you too much time to overthink things. Not sure if the operator was busy trying to get that hydrant hooked up and lost track of how much time it was taking him- or... Meanwhile the dude on the line is like- okay... well might as well put my mask on while I wait- In the end it's pretty much 0 difference- but if I'm debriefing on this I'd see a few opportunities to build on so that the next time when it's actually going to matter things go a little more smoothly.

As an arm chair quarter back, I can tell you the worker safely egressed the garbage truck. How do I know this? I don't. I'm speculating because as you look at the garbage truck, I see the door flung wide open, as in somebody got out in a hurry. You could clearly see the fire was contained to the outside of the garbage container. looked more around the hydraulic lines. Probably caused by a hydraulic leak from a hose. That's where the fire was contained to. When you seen the mini flare up, that was hydraulic fluid burning. If the natural gas had ignited, there would have been a "Ka-Boomm".
