You will have been the same age as me then. Very strong and generally very happy memories of this time, working and hanging out with friends. I , too lost my best friend in a traffic collision 14 years back, so i know what it feels like.....and so does my son whose closest fried committed suicide five years back. The memories stay and often really hurt...but you have to keep going and just try to keep the happy outweighing the sad. .

Great Song in my top 5 along with Baker St, all around the late 70s, and Year of the Cat, Sultans of Swing, and so many more. I still perform this song every weekend in various pubs in Dublin and it gives me great satisfaction and unlike me, it never gets old.

Back in the 70’s my father had an old Bedford angle cab and used it to do furniture removals. He was asked if he could take a budding band round a few gigs. Well he took them round a couple but due to lack of funds in the band they had to leave a black guitar that had mother of Pearl on the fret board as collateral. Well we had that guitar in the house in its case for around 6-7 months. Then a guy shows up and collected it pay the balance, he also asked if he would consider continuing as their driver moving their gear. Offering tickets to the city hall gig. Alas to my sisters dismay he refused the tickets and declined the job. Only to realise that 12 months later they hit the big time. The band was Lindisfarne..

I had a Geordie mate back in those days. We lived in York, so Newcastle wasn't that far to hitch to. We hitched up to see Lindisfarne, and all the way my mate was telling me what bastards the Geordies are to southerners (me) so I had to be really careful and do my best Geordie accent. Needless to say, the only reason I wasn't smashed to pulp was because the Geordies were wonderful. It was a brilliant weekend.

@@colinbrown7021 It was just one of those things that you had to do as a Geordie. One Christmas eve show went on very late, missed all local transport and no taxis available because of the day it was so ended up walking 8 miles home and arrived back at 3am, wouldn't change it for the world.

I remember seeing Lindisfarne at the Planet Theatre in Slough during their yearly Xmas tour in the early 1980s. They were brilliant, but imagine our surprise when, after the show, the whole band came into the nearby pub that my friend and I were in. We had a great conversation, and Alan remarked how much I looked like him!! Unfortunately, neither my friend or Alan are still with us.
