Thank you so much Steve! This is the information I've been searching for. Recently I bought an old IM3 animal dental compressor which may be ok for your cool style of handpiece. From another Steve . (I've been a jeweller over 40 years but I've only done push engraving)

Reminds me of the palm gravers I used in the past. Price is not cheap but I believe I could use with my debilitating arthritic hands. Something I haven't been able to do in years.
@classicuniquegifts97046 жыл бұрын
57WillysCJ so correct me if I'm wrong but cobolt is used for cutting stainless steel and carbide is not? I'm having trouble with my carbide on stainless. Brass and aluminum is not an issue.
@57WillysCJ6 жыл бұрын
@@classicuniquegifts9704 Never engraved stainless steel by hand. Of course the industrial pantograph should do the job. It is hard depending on the material. There are different types of stainless steel based on their machinability. You have to paint it with something or it will corrode quickly. Stainless is used in the food industry because it doesn't corroded easily but lower quality, which is easier to work, will once the polished surface is broken.

This is the video that convinced me that I'm better off spending a little more money and get a Lindsay product instead of a GRS style product. Couldn't afford the palm control but am very satisfied with the Artisan. No need to upgrade this tool for years to come. Gotta get much better to earn the value of the Palm control. Keep up the good work Steve.

Beautiful tool. If it weren't so expensive I'd own one but I'm guessing you are charging more than its weight in gold minus the cutter. A more affordable price would sell them much quicker. Magnificent job in your design.

@nerored6235 Жыл бұрын
@@JohnSwampthingRae true, but there comes a point where the price goes beyond the justification of quality and moves into just insane. You eventually reach a point where you can make just as much by selling in quantity than by just having a high price tag. It's called smart business.
@JHV166 Жыл бұрын
@@nerored6235 NO, you're wrong. The Lindsay Engravers are so far advanced that it might take you 20 years to exploit every facet of the tool. Regardless, it will take a poor engraver to a fair engraver, a fair engraver to an adequate engraver, an adequate engraver to a good engraver, and a good engraver to a better engraver and a better engraver to a professional... there is even a third kind of gravers, the push/pull typ. that compressor works much simpler then the GRS system and the spring is on the other side of the hammerpiece. But it is not better then the GRS system, but also depending on the power of the pump used. the air powered hammers have the big advantage that you can just turn up the preassure and it goes. your video show very well the difference. In my opinion, even the sound they make is much smoother and. the power is no comparrison at all, no spring type will ever reach this level of power!

I understand where your coming from and I usually would be saying the same thing BUT, I have the 901, the Monarch from GRS, Great gravers no doubt, Sweet and Love em BUT, I got lucky recently and had a few extra bucks squirreled away for the time where I would get lucky and find someone selling a Lindsey Classic used on the Engravers Forum or Ebay ETC, I scored the Classic, Regulator and foot pedal all for a grand,I tried it out the second it arrived and I haven't put it down since, You need Mules tied to it to hold it back, Its covers every range just like Steve showed here , a spin of the collar and more power to you. I love the GRS stuff I have but for the foreseeable future Im using the classic , Its rare to find a used one at an affordable price but if you keep looking and have the money when it comes up grab it, It will be gone in an hour if you dont .

The scm power carver is not an engraving tool. It is a high speed rotary grinder. You will never get the kind of clean bright cuts that a properly sharpened graver will give you. The Lindsay Classic will do the finest work on knife parts and with additional tungsten piston replacing the standard will work great on heavy deep cuts for car and motorcycle parts..

Damn, I wish I had the money to purchase an AirGraver. I want to get into engraving as a hobby with a passion. My KZbin is loaded with tutorials and equipment reviews. I always buy the best equipment when I get into something no matter what the venture. The quality of your equipment is very important and with engraving it definitely seems to be the case as well. The AirGraver keeps coming back during my research as the best as far as I can tell. I haven't engraved a single line or second yet so obviously my knowledge is slim to none but it seems to be an awesome, American made piece of equipment. I don't know how long it'll take me to buy one but I'm fairly certain it's worth the wait. I just wish I had a friend that I could borrow a piece from just to get started! Does anyone know if there's a cheaper place to pick up an AirGraver? Maybe a used one? $2,000-$3,000 is a massive investment for me right now but I'm chomping at the bit to get started:-)

I own a Lindsay classic and it is, in my opinion, the very best you can get. Everyone complains about the price but if you are serious about engraving it is well worth the price. If you are an engraver that sells your work it pays for itself in no time. This tool will last a lifetime, if you ever have any problems with it Steve will stand behind his tools 100%. If you are serious about engraving or learning to engrave then you can't go wrong with the airgraver. Steve has many nice tools, they are all top quality, you get what you pay for.
