I agree with Lindsay, Ruby needs some serious character development, she's my favorite but it seems like out of all the characters including team JNPR Ruby has the least growth the least focus. She's suppose to be the main character come on Karry, Miles she needs some attention. I also agree with Arryn, I want Blake to fix the white fang but I don't want her to become the leader i can't see her as a leader type.

I understand her need for some development, but I can understand why it's taking so long. So much of Ruby's back story is closely tied to what happened to team STRQ in the past. Particularly with her mother Summer. And I think that a lot of Ruby's parents' history is tied to the plot of what's happening with Salem. So I can see why they really have to ration out Ruby's back story.

I realize it's an common expectation that we get to watch a character's development in that way but ... Ruby's already a pro at dealing with grief, has been since before the start of the show. Listen to early songs in the soundtrack for reference, Red Like Roses part 2 in particular. Ruby took her grief and turned it into a drive to make the world better. In psychology the ability to shake off grief and keep moving is called resilience, and typically found in those who believe in something bigger than themselves. Yang's experience broke her because instead of learning a way to cope with that level of trauma as Ruby did, she had instead sublimated her grief when Summer Rose died into her drive to find her birth mother. I guarantee that if it were Ruby who'd lost an arm, she'd be back in action about 30 seconds after getting a robot arm in the mail. (If not sooner.)

I always thought of Red Like Roses pt 2 as a hint that maybe Ruby still kind of has that dark place in her mind. The lyrics literally say "Red like roses fills my head with dreams and finds me always closer to the emptiness and sadness that has come to take the place of you." That was all *present* tense verbiage, not past tense. Which would imply that Ruby hasn't actually dealt with the grief over her dead mother. More like, it suggests she has gotten really good at putting on a happy face and sweet front. But she is plagued with nightmares of her mother's blood. Her witnessing Penny and Pyrrha's deaths was step one. If any more close friends or family die in front of Ruby, she could break.

The ease at which she's able to converse with her mother's tombstone at the start of Volume 3 would seem to indicate that Ruby is as at peace with her mother's death as much as anyone reasonably could be. Rwby's seen enough tragedy that at this point most anyone else would have suffered some form of PTSD. If the show tries to realistically inflict the amount of trauma it would take to break Ruby, we'd be in for some rather sickening content ...

As someone who's the same MBTI as Blake (INFJ), I think I can speak for us both when I say that we could be good leaders because we are very compassionate and loving, but we don't want to be leaders because of our introversion. It's the ones who doesn't want to lead, who are the best leaders. But that's just my opinion.

Yeah, well Salem broke her and Weiss just stood there watching Ruby curl up in fetal position crying uncontrollably. Yang and Blake provided the support. Had Juane been there he might have, not certain though. He would have noticed her need but might not have been confident enough in his right to do it. Although after volume 4, they shared a lot of hardship, and he helped her with "You gave us the courage to follow you".
