King Malietoa Tanumafili II of Samoa once said “in Samoa everyone is a king”. I feel like he said this to be humble but tbh he was correct in a Geneological standpoint. All Samoan Families have at least one High chief who represents the family And rules over the area in which the family dwells. What’s interesting is ALL Chiefly titles & dynasties are related to each other the further back in time you go. For Samoans we don’t need to go too far back. Queen Salamasina of the 15th century (Nafanua’s descendant) is the common ancestor of every noble family in Samoa today (basically all Samoans). So in a way yes 😂

Fun fact: I originally learned about queen lili'aulikani on an episode of the dog the bounty hunter, when his nephew Justin was speaking proudly of his island life and the rich heritage of the region. It sparked my interest in a queen in what is now North america, and set me on a journey of researching non European monarchies. Fascinating!!

There are many 'dark chapters' of American history.

She was done so much injustice. Even though she passed a long time ago, she is slighted and done even more injustice by not getting even an apology, even if it weren't considered enough to cover what was done to her. What a disgrace it all was with her very much getting the short end of the stick in it all.

Nafanua, was a historical Warrior Queen who had slowly taken over Savaii, Samoa. 200 years After her death she was Venerated as a “Goddess” by the royals of Savaii who descended from her. The TonumaiPe’a clan had an oracle or Priest for Nafanua who allegedly was possessed by Nafanua when she wanted to speak or command others. At this point in time The island of Upolu (to the right of Savaii) had gone through numerous wars & turmoil. the TonumaiPe’a clan took part in & Won all 4 of these battles over the 4 Paramount district titles. When they took the 4 titles back to Savaii they Posthumously Crowned Nafanua’s “spirit” as the first Tupu Tafa’ifa (Ruler supported by 4) making her spirit the first to rule All of Samoa (prior to this it was separate kingdoms). This is why some people get confused and assume that Nafanua herself Took the 4 titles, when those 4 Battles took place 2 centuries after her death. It just goes to show the Power & influence she had over Samoa.

I love when mythology mixes with real life historical figures, like in the first case. Even if it makes it dificult to know how much of the life of a person is true and what is legend. Edit: Also, i just remembered your video about the Next Queens Regnant of the word, does this mean that the Maori have now the only contemporary Queen Regnant alive? Or she doesn't count because her role is more spiritual than political?.

Growing up in New Zealand, I always thought the explanation of how Maui made the sun behave, was a way for the people involved to rationalise why the days had a greater variation in length in New Zealand than closer to the equator - till I went to the Cook Islands and discovered they also have this explanation?! And Taiwan, where the polynesian people originated from, is pretty equadistant from the equator to many of the Polynesian islands, so it was probably not to rationalise differences between the experience of day length in Taiwan vs the Islands. But apparently, its now believed that the journey from Rarotonga to New Zealand took 16 days (and that was against the current), and its likely that for the first few generations after the main migrations, return visits were made, so maybe the Maui episode did originate in New Zealand, and was brought back to the islands?

5:32 According to Moana 2, Maui said nobody would understand a joke.... for at least 2K years!! So it's obvious he was referring to our time, meaning Moana 2 takes place in 254 RE (0004 AD). Since the 2nd film takes place at least 3 years after the 1st, then that film takes place in 251 RE (0001 AD)! So either you're wrong, or Disney slipped up!!!

I see lots of people commenting that the people in the States should be embarrassed or ashamed of their history. I can’t agree with that. I believe every country has something in their history that is unsavory but what makes a country great is that their people learn from their ancestors mistakes and try not to repeat them. Can any country say their history is completely free from past mistakes? If so they should speak up and tell us all how perfect their country is! Hum is that silence we all hear? Yes it is because there isn’t a single country that hasn’t committed some kind of stupid mistake in the past!

In 2014 the US government was forced to concede that Hawai'i was still a monarchy. The US lost a Federal court case brough against it by the Native Hawaiians. The Hawaiian royal family still exists, but they consider themselves a 'Monarchy in exile' because they don't want to be part of the US and want their country to be free. The best they could hope for is a 'Sovereign Nation within a nation' like federally recognized Native American tribes.

A fascinating book about the history of Hawaii;( and our official Hawaiian History Textbook before Hawaiian History classes were abolished in schools here) is Gavan Daws; "The Shoal Of Time." Anyone can be expert in pronouncing the Hawaiian Language with one simple trick. Instead of the English way of saying vowels A-E-I-O-U, instead pronounce your vowels in Hawaiian words with; A like the dentist says "AAh," E like "Hay" without the "H," letter "I" like letter "E" sounds in English vowels, Same with "O"( english vowel), and letter "U" pronounced like; "ooh"( like saying they "ooh-ed" and ah-ed at the jewelry" Ah Eh E (ee) O (oh) U (ooh) Anytime two letters together= aa its "ah-ah" ee= eh-eh, ii= ee-ee, oo= oh-oh, and uu=is just "ooh" Confusing but simple!😉🍍🌺🤙

A systemic pattern of weather over a long period of time is a climate. When that systemic weather pattern changes in a big way over a prolonged period of time it's almost as if we can rightly say the climate...changes.....weird. Isn't it so funny how weather literally is the building block of a climate?

@ when did any culture track weather in an intricate so that we could say there was a "change"? I'm not being facetious. Wonder what culture started tracking weather. That's an interesting google
@BriarMB13
@BriarMB13 13 сағат бұрын
@twiley3530 Ancient Egypt, Lebanon and Peru have long histories of tracking weather changes, like....there are forests and lakes that are written about extensively that just don't exist anymore Because of weather changes. Many many south Pacific cultures do but that's a lot of verbal so much of it is based on scientific findings driven by oral histories. Isle of Man has many cultures that wrote about the little ice age. Anywhere that people lived have histories, written or oral, talks about weather patterns. Many of these histories back up environmental studies into historical accounts from just soil layers, to elemental breakdowns taken from soil, to comparing how agriculture is affected today by similar weather based on these accounts. Egypt doesn't have the same climate as England which doesn't have the same climate has Siberia. When a Climate changes in a given area weather has changed, and if people live there they almost always wrote or talk about it.
