Hanak are probably better known for their Nymphing Rods or even their excellent hook range. After many requests they have finally come up with a dry fly rod. The rod was designed in cooperation with Lubos Roza one of the most successful competition anglers in the world.
In this video I will give you my verdict after fishing with the rod all season.

Derick that’s very kind. I think rods are like anything nowadays the ones we have do a great job. We all just like to have more stuff! 🤣 I would love to have this rod in my arsenal but just can’t justify it.

Like anything it is a tool for a job or a specific set of circumstances. In this case mainly smaller fish on streams. It is perfect for that task or in calm conditions possibly for targeting fish on a small Stillwater. Would in the case of the marble trout close in situation been ideal for all but the larger more powerful residents. It all depends on the balance of have you the need of this kit for the percentage of time you spend on that type of water, using the tactics that this kit is suited for. Your passion is loch style boat fishing on larger lakes. So it makes perfect sense that your main focus is on the tackle and equipment. That is suitable for that type of fishing. Why invest possibly fifty percent of your tackle budget on what is less than ten percent of your fishing year? Our love of fishing is always on that fine edge of obsession. Do what you love. Love what you do.

Lindsay, I’m across the pond from you and I don’t understand about your trout waters. Does the public have free access to many trout waters, or do you have to ‘pay to play’ because someone or some group own the access rights to trout streams? Thanks for your wonderful videos!

Hi Charles, yes access to fishing is generally owned. So you need a national rod licence and then you need to purchase a day ticket to go fishing. There are free stretches but not many here in England.

I'm of two minds about rod quality vs price. I don't believe that the average fly fisher can tell the difference between rods of different qualities. I have cast a few rods. Everything from a 1970's Diawa fiberglass broom stuck, to a good Sage XP which was not that wonderful. I fish with middle of the road Redingtons and I have a custom 2wt made out of a Pac Bay blank, not high end at all but built well and casts like a rocket launcher. I see people (used to be one) who think a better rod will make them a better caster. Or a better line will make them a better caster. Both are about 10% true, but your technique will tell the true tale. TFO is one of those rods that gives you more bang for your buck, so is Redington. So are various grades of other makers. My very favorite rod was a Sage DS travel rod. 9' 5wt. Back many years ago it sold for too much, but I fished it hard for nearly 28 years. Wouldn't it be nice Lindsay if you could go to a shop with a casting pond and try out a dozen rods? Anyway, thanks for a good review I did not know Hanak made rods! Kerry, I think you have to fish with a rod for a few session to get really familiar with it. I was not super kean when i started with this but the rod won me over throughout the season.

@@lindsayiflyfish I totally agree Lindsay, but as well, once you learn about casting, you can cast a broom stick given time. For example, somebody hands you a new rod and no matter how good it is in design and material it feels a bit foreign. So you cast it and you notice that maybe it loads differently, maybe it is not quite spined correctly etc. But you and I can mentally and physically make adjustments because of our past experiences and that is what you have to do. Over one or two seasons, you are casting unconsciously well, because of your expertise born of experience. Like I told my programmer when I was working in the Control Centre, when he asked me how I liked the new software he had put out was? I told him "I've been operating an old system and learned how to do more with less. I'm a poor judge of changes made to the system, because I can operate everything given to me. So to make it simple, your own personal skills will allow you to compensate for any flaw in a new rod. We don't disagree Lindsay. It is just pretty expensive to be buying rods you don't have the experience to like, for the right reason. I don't know how I'm doing here, just took Oxy, trying to stay awake to finish this.
