I've got so much respect for these Alpine skiers. They are flying down those mountains at incredible speed. It requires strength, agility and no small amount of bravery too. Lindsey was a champion, especially coming back from some pretty serious injuries.

Vancouver 2010. Awesome. I was living up Whistler prior to the Olympics. Look at the trees. No snow. It was brutal. And warm out. On a heavy snow year those trees would be pretty much buried and there would be no colour on the mountain but white, white and more white. She just dominated.

Its her strong thighs, which allow her to get a good low base and balance.....Oh and most people don't notice this, but she very calm with all that adrenaline coursing through her body.

Great skill and guts more than anything. Class athletes, certainly more than I've got. I would struggle to stand up on ski's never mind race down a mountain at 80+ mph.

Had Lindsey been a better finesse skier, she would certainly have surpassed the 86 individual World Cup titles held by Ingemar Stenmark ((46 GS, 40 SL), before injuries derailed her career. As her latter years will attest, when a skier wipes/crashes out in a speed race (downhill, SuperG), the results can be catastrophic. Usually not the case with slalom or giant slalom. Obviously, a larger woman definitely has an advantage in a speed race, which is probably why Mikaela Shiffrin doesn't routinely entertain these races.
