Love these! Many many many leaders and followers should do this regularly! I found that when a follower is receptive I can actually do the two handed excersise with them on the social dance floor and it is fun and they respond really well to it also keeping that for the next pattern. I start out going sugar push - which is sadly not often taught to beginners well - and from there I go into this two handed open position. And it is a perfect position for mirroring, for giving the follower a very clear signal of: "hey, you do something and I mirror you". And we can playfully explore the technique, the collaboration aspects of lindy as well as improv and even sometimes musicality if the follower can combine all these aspects. Afterwards I often have beginning and intermed followers come up "you didnt go pattern pattern pattern! That was so much fun doing that." - as they finally explore more of that dancing is not a repetition of pattern-to-pattern process. Great tool, I would recommend this practice to leaders with beginning or intermed followers who lack technique as well as advanced followers helping beginner or intermed leaders in the same aspect. Keep it playful if on a social scene and dont become a "TEACHER" (unless they ask for help) ;)

I have had shoulder/back pain after Lindy Hop dancing for many years. So much that I had to switch to another dance style. Regularly doing these exercises have allowed me to return to Lindy Hop-- with no pain : )
