Holy moly 😲! It's always the simple concepts that just break your mind, and then you say: " Oh.... This feels so much better ." Love it!! ❤️

Laura, I love your videos because you’re always hinting at something beyond just learning dance steps: you hint at something wider, bigger, that when made manifest is seen as dance. This is the artistic process, human expression, the process of learning, creativity, going beyond this-is-right and this-is-wrong. Also I’ve been learning from your ‘Charleston Basic’ and ‘Fall off the Log’ videos lately, and this video looks like a perfect follow-on. Thanks!

Your videos have inspired me so much, I had always wanted to learn Lindy Hop and because I found this channel, I finally decided to take an actual course. The dance itself is lovely, but I'm 22 and literally every other person there is over 50, some easily 60+. Is this secretly an old people dance? It's so awkward and uncomfortable for me. I'm really heartbroken, I was looking forward to this class so much and paid so much money for it...

I'll say as someone in my 20's who started dancing exactly a year ago this week and has danced and taken classes in Los Angeles and now in Baltimore (where I just moved after graduating), it really varies venue to venue. In many places, yes, it's been me and a bunch of people three times my age, and in other places, it's predominantly people my age. I'd say that you should explore different venues and dance with as many different people as you can. Many of the older people can really dance and have been accumulating knowledge for decades and are a lot of fun to dance with. But I TOTALLY get wanting to be around other younger people as well. It might be harder to find younger dancers where you are right now, but there are a lot of young people out there who are passionate about this dance and its history.

You might have to try bigger cities in your areas or college towns or traveling to a dance festival. But to be fair I have seen dancers 60+ who are tearing up the dance floor long past all the 20 somethings tire out so it really depends on the dancers in your area.

@@fdasjrfewklew433 traveling to bigger cities regularly is not really an option for me, but I've mostly gotten used to it. The old ladies really appreciate me, because their husbands that they dragged along with them all openly hate dancing and suck at it lol. But we switch around, so when the old ladies get to dance with me, a person who can actually lead and knows the steps, they're always very happy.

I was in a similar place before, stick with it! Maybe the younger people are at the socials or another venue, or maybe you will inspire more young people to join and stay just by being there. There are tons of 20-somethings at festivals and big events but fewer at smaller laid-back places in my experience. That being said you are still on the younger end of the young people (at least in my area) so you have such a great head start on learning now.

There is something so satisfying in watching you dance. Your bounce is so smooth and weightless. Now, I want to be you when I grow up. 💃🏻

Hey Laura, I love your channel. I just subscribed today. I have a question: could you make a (short) video about circling? I mean the move where you are in the open position, both lean back, have the tension in the arm and go around each other while staying at the imaginary circle on the ground. I have seen that in a few videos and it looks fun. The basics shouldn't be difficult - I can try it with my partner in the next socials. But it'd be nice to hear some tips and variations from you as your explanations are easy to listen and your videos are so high quality in general. I hope I explained the technique well as I don't know the name for the technique. Keep up the good work & the amazing energy. Your videos mean a lot to me.

Ahhhh hands in the blender!! Seriously great stuff. Kinda cliche but it shows “t’aint whatca do…” it’s how much you commit…. Maybe that doesn’t work in the song.

I mean, the more I dance, the more I feel the TRUTH of that song. It's everywhere.
