What a fun video! Wonderful community in Ourense you found. My wife and I are Camino walkers and first became familiar with you guys from your Camino videos- they are great and we enjoy your fun personalities- we did not know your dance background, but on one of your videos you were spontaneously moving around, and my wife exclaimed “Lainey’s definitely a dancer!” Thanks for posting all your great content!!

What brand of polyurethane did you use ? Is it slick enough for Balboa ?

It was Varathane brand. The only one my local hardware store had. It's slick enough for Bal, but I don't practice slides on it (not quite slick enough for that).

Lainey thank you for this. I've been dancing for 2 years and recently was told to work on my triple step, absorbing into the floor as you said and my teacher said like a sponge. Anyone can do a triple step but like anything, there is a right way and a wrong way. This is an excellent demonstration as are all of your videos. I love your detailed explanation!!! He Lainey, I'm new to the channel and was wondering if you could make a video on foot care and how to stretch and massage the feet to remedy foot pain. Sometimes dance gives me foot pain and was wondering if you could show how to deal with it. Thank you!
@LaineySilver2 жыл бұрын
Hi James, thanks for watching. That's a great idea. I'll put that on my "to do list." It may take a while since I'm currently working on other stuff. One thing to keep in mind, foot pain won't magically go away with one massage. It takes time to strengthen the feet and release the excess muscle tension (that's likely in the calf).

hi great video question how do you sit up during a jazz split cause i can't do it i lean back having my hand to hold me up the more i strctch my leg out the more i lean back without sitting up please help
@LaineySilver3 жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel, thanks for watching. Every body is different. You probably have tight hips or hamstrings (or both). Warm-up very well and do some light stretching before trying jazz splits. That may help a bit. Your back leg needs internal hip rotation. Your front leg needs external hip rotation from a straight leg. Remember, this is KZbin, not an actual lesson. There's a lot more material a teacher can give you to help in person or over Zoom.

Lainey, I’ve been watching your travel videos for a while now and had no idea that you were a swing dancer. I’ve also been watching a lot of swing dance videos over the last couple of years after seeing a group of people swing dancing in San Sebastian, Spain. I had no idea that people were still doing this type of dancing. I was in Washington DC last year while the ILHC was going on but I had no idea until I got home and realized I missed it. Had I known 25 years ago that people were still doing this I’d probably be doing it as well. I guess I was hanging out with the wrong crowd.
@LaineySilver3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching my travel videos! Swing dancing makes the world feel smaller (in a good way). It's really cool that you saw dancers in San Sebastian. There's a whole world of swing dancers in most major cities. Usually if you Google "Lindy Hop (insert city name here)" you'll find good options. You have to use "lindy hop" instead of "Swing dance" because the term "swing dance" is too broad. I hope we can meet in person one day! It's never too late to start dancing.

Wow, just call a professional carpenter near your location and ask them for tips on the matter? Wax and polishing makes the floor slippery (or fine sanding, better yet planing real wood), but wax and polishing IS ONLY WORTH IT for QUALITY WOOD, not cheap stuff you are using, so dont even bother doing that! You will damage the ground where you place that thing because of the hinges. With that bouncing and moving even stone will get scratched by metal. Not a smart idea not having it sit plane, so: wrong hinges. Also: no need with that cheap ply wood to use ANY sort of varnish or whatever. If you want to go plywood, just throw it down and use it with the right shoes (whatever you are weaing, you sure are not professional dancers if you dont use leather soles ... chrome or smooth. See a cheap throw down floor for dancing here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qIGap6aomJqibsk It is easier to set it up on some beams that will also allow it to flex A LITTLE BIT !!!!! You can just put (self drilling) screws thru (undersite, DONT go all the way thru to the top -.-) Please, dont use that wood again, that you are using there. Use cheap plywood like in the video: there is so much glue in that stuff that it will even last thru rain (once). But yours will get destroyed by water easily...
@LaineySilver3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, Thanks for all your advice. The goal of this floor is to move it to different locations inside my house. I always put a cloth under it so the hinge isn't damaging the carpet. I'm not doing the type of dancing in the video you sent. So yes, I do need varnish for the type of dances I teach. Lindy Hop isn't always danced in leather shoes. It's usually danced in sneakers. Balboa is always danced in leather shoes. Professional dancers don't make much money and it's COVID, so I can't afford to have a professional make something temporary while all the studios are closed. Your advice was great, but I it's very mean to judge me of being "unprofessional" by the shoes I'm wearing.

Love these! Many many many leaders and followers should do this regularly! I found that when a follower is receptive I can actually do the two handed excersise with them on the social dance floor and it is fun and they respond really well to it also keeping that for the next pattern. I start out going sugar push - which is sadly not often taught to beginners well - and from there I go into this two handed open position. And it is a perfect position for mirroring, for giving the follower a very clear signal of: "hey, you do something and I mirror you". And we can playfully explore the technique, the collaboration aspects of lindy as well as improv and even sometimes musicality if the follower can combine all these aspects. Afterwards I often have beginning and intermed followers come up "you didnt go pattern pattern pattern! That was so much fun doing that." - as they finally explore more of that dancing is not a repetition of pattern-to-pattern process. Great tool, I would recommend this practice to leaders with beginning or intermed followers who lack technique as well as advanced followers helping beginner or intermed leaders in the same aspect. Keep it playful if on a social scene and dont become a "TEACHER" (unless they ask for help) ;)
