Your video resume all that really matters. There is a lot of KZbin channels trying to convince us that Helix is old and don't compare to the new QC and FM9, but you words makes a lot more sense to me. I'm happy with my Helix and don't see any need to change.

I am thankful I found you/your channel and you convinced me to get the HX Stomp as well as suggested IRs and your bass patch. Not to mention the inspiration with your music and production, Studio One etc. My music would not be where it is today if not for you brother. Thank you so much for making a difference in one of the most passionate things in my life, music.🤟Take care.

Thanks Nick; with you all the way in your analysis. From my 2017 start with Helix on through to now; satisfied and inspired. Eager for Helix 2.0 yet doing just fine for now. Full disclosure; count me among the Helix owners with a touch of envy and longing for the obvious improvements we've all mentioned in forums, etc. Thanks again; keep sharing your insights. Cheers from the rainy Pacific NW.

That's why, despite owning and enjoying a Quad Cortex, I have a difficult time moving on from the Helix. I feel that right now, while it starts to show it's age in some areas, it has also been so tweaked, expanded and perfected that it covers everything. I need some out there sounds? Here are some weird FX to just go crazy. I need high gain? All the flavours of it are out there. I need some weird routing option? Got it. Plus, and what a big plus that is, there is the ecosystem: I basicaly use 3 configurations of it my LT for most live purposes, a Stomp based pedalboard for writing and jamming and Native on my studio pc. I can sketch ideas on my pc without needing to plug any hardware unit other than my always connected interface, then I can move my core tones to my Stomp and pair it with pedals that are easier to tweak on the fly while writing in rehearsal and the back to native to expand a song preset to include the FX i need in the most convenient footswitch setup and finally load it up on the LT for when it's time to perform the damn song. All this in an intuitive and easy to figure out UI. To my knowledge no other modeller covers all those bases in such a seamless way
@iluvyunie
@iluvyunie 2 ай бұрын
also for me as an interface the helix is more reliable (and the power supply is very stable at least on the original helix floor) I have the QC but the power being grounded to the usb ports is puzzling to me, I almost blew my motherboard using it to record when we had a power outage while I was using the psu it came with. I had to replace it on my own dime and warranty wouldn't handle it 😂 the qc sounds amazing but the helix is great and reliable af by comparison I haven't tried fractal but they're probably great
@leavingsoulsBO
@leavingsoulsBO 2 ай бұрын
@@iluvyunie Yeah the QC power supply is a major letdown considering the pricing and it's the reason I plug it in my interface when recording. As for the Fractal, I got to try one in a studio and with the cleans the engineer had done it was miles ahead anything else, the high gain tones I had to program myself and it just showed there is a steep learning curve since I couldn't get anything equal or better than my Helix tones. That why I consider Helix the best all rounder, it's hard not to get a good sound out of it if you have some basic sound crafting skills

I think you use what inspires you to play, doesn't really matter what other people think. I used modelers (mostly AxeFx for a while) but I got rid of all of them and went back to Mesa tube amps. It's just what motivates me and inspires me. Which IMO, is all that matters.

Bro I still use my HX stomp with a few pedals like, all the time for playing at home, worship gigs, cover band gigs. I use it direct, with an amp or an frfr. I’ve been enticed at times with other modelers, but the flexibility, routing options and ease of use, along with Line 6 constantly updating their firmware, I just don’t have a need to make a switch.

There's only so "real sounding" you can make an ampsim, and by the time AxeFx 2 and Helix came around, they had already achieved 99% accuracy. Where are you gonna go from there? You can't make it "more real than the real thing" 😂 These units are still top of the line and absolutely compete with anything new on the market (sometimes sounding better and more accurate, in my opinion). A Helix or an AxeFX2 is all you need for a great guitar tone - and I'll say that even as someone trying to sell you my own products🙂

@NickHillMakesMusic
@NickHillMakesMusic 2 ай бұрын
lol I know, sort of a d#%k answer. All I’m doing with that little paddleboard, is I have an IEC splitter which is just the black power cables you get with most products, it splits into two and I plug in the power stage with 1/2 and I plug in a paddleboard power supply to power The share wireless. Then I just plugged that in into an outlet on stage near my cab. That’s it really. I plug the helix in front of stage. It’s not the most graceful solution and I might look into integrating my power stage into my cab somehow but that’s what I’m rocking with so far and it’s worked flawlessly.

I bought into the whole Line6 thing some, what?, 15 years ago: JTV Variaxes, a floor unit (HD500) and an FR/FR amp. It seemed like a no-brainer, because it was. Using a CAT5 cable between the Variax and the floor unit, I could easily switch not just between amps and FX but between guitars and guitar tunings. Jump ahead 15 years and neither one of my Variaxes have working digital circuitry - only the traditional mag pickups work. And I don't know that anyone would even attempt to repair them. Meanwhile Line6 seems to have gone into a creative hibernation. They keep repackaging the same old IP, as if all their DSP engineers quit years ago, and all that's left is the marketing department. As if they gave up. (Granted, it's been many years since I checked for new firmware for any of my Line6 products - maybe they keep improving their software at a regular pace. But still, it's the same 15 year old hardware). And this, in my opinion, has always been a problem with products that try to straddle both the physical and the digital realms. The physical part of the product inevitably will suffer "digital rot", with no way of upgrading. And sooner or later the vendor will quit updating the software side of it. My Les Paul, built in 1977, will outlive me. But Line6 products I bought 15 years ago haven't been usable in years. And it might have stung a little less if Line6 had put out new and improved guitars. But nope, no cigar. I'm by no means a luddite, I'm an early adopter. But I try to keep everything in software that runs on regular laptops. The pace of the digital evolution is a poor match for the physical world. Native Instruments KORE2 seemed like a great product, until they completely abandoned it a few short years later. (I still haven't forgiven NI for that). Of course, to each their own. Just my two cents.
@NickHillMakesMusic
@NickHillMakesMusic Ай бұрын
Oh yeah man, they gave up on this Variaxs years and years ago and I simply think because there weren’t enough folks like you, adopting and giving the tech a shot. It’s simple business. Unfortunate for the variax and valve-tone adopters. They’ve done nothing but cram free update after update into the HX line of stuff so it’s safe to say they know what they have with that. I myself was also apprehensive if the variax guitars and never even gave it a shot so I think that speaks to it as someone (myself) who’s loved their stuff.
