Saturday afternoon and HW finds himself unaware of what he will be paling the next morning. The Line 6 Helix LT showed up in the mail so why not jump in the deep end of the pool and build a quick P&W scene to work as a go to rig for Sunday mornings.

Well about the sensitivity, you're still running a compressor in the beginning of the chain which could be preventing you from getting that tube-like sensitivity, or not. I don't own a Helix so yeah. By the way, how did the Helix work for you in church with this patch?

Love your channel bro. This time last year I sold my huge PT Pro, Boss ES-8 and all my pedals cause I was so tired if lugging it around. Got the original Helix and loved how easy it was to program and did use IRs. After a few months I kinda was jonesin for a pedalboard/amp setup so I sold the Helix and got a little PT Metro 24 board with two drives and Strymon Timeline/Big Sky. Love the sounds I get but sometimes miss features like snapshots for quick song transitions. Hmmm maybe do a hybrid setup that incorporates Helix and control the Strymon stuff via MIDI. I think that verbs in the Helix are pretty good but obviously not as lush as Big Sky.

Thanks for the video. I would say your tone is very bright for what I am playing. But since you probably playing with a full band, that tone would be needed to cut through the mix for sure.

Very nice video. Line6 knocked this one out of the park. I am on the cusp of upgrading my HD500 to a Helix. I love the HD500, but after watching all the videos with the Helix it is time for me to pull the trigger. I have had the HD500 since it came out. It isn't fun making a preset on the unit itself and always use the HDEdit. They seem to have made it so intuitive to make a preset right on the unit this time. Can't wait to get it and get to the first Sunday. Now to sell the DT25, which I have never used, and the HD500. Who knows maybe should keep it for a backup.

Do you do anything on the global eq. I know a lot of people talk about cutting highs on the helix and I was wondering if you do anything to help with that or if you don’t mess with eq. I really like your tone it sounds really warm. I struggle using my helix because it so bright. I will say downloading the worship tutorials free patch with your IR has helped me a a lot. Pretty sure the Deluxe compressor is supposed to be a Boss type thing. These processors are an embarassment of riches. We live in the golden age of guitar gear. I just got my first one and every day I add a new killer patch. I get lost for hours. Very cool. I run mine into the return of an amp. I am still a holdout. No substitute for 'moving air'.
@Southardknives
@Southardknives 7 жыл бұрын
Love this! Thank you. Really Curious how you would compare this to your Kemper. Obviously you have both now. Do you not use your Kemper for P&W generally? Used my kemper for the first time at Chuch a week or two ago, and had great results, everyone seemed to prefer it over my Two rock Amp (which kinda makes me sad, but only a little). I had looked really seriously at the Line 6 Helix, but didnt end up going for it because I got a good deal on a used Kemper with Remote. Still not sure if I made the right call.

great video. thanks a ton. Just ordered my helix and looking fwd to hear how it sounds. Just out pf curiosity, where is the sound coming out from in this video? is the helix connected to your computer or does it go in some sort of monitor speaker? (sounds really good btw). And if so, what kind of speaker are you using or would you suggest for live playing? Do you use in-ears or some sort of floor monitors when you play at your church?

Did you apply any post EQ to this video? Do you have global EQ enabled on the Helix? Or do you have any type of clean boost pedal in the signal chain between the guitar and Helix? Your tone sounds great! But when I follow your instructions, my tone is much more muffled than yours while listening to your video and my Helix through the same speakers. I'm using a Fender strat. Thanks.
@ToneJunkieTV
@ToneJunkieTV 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Ron! No sir! No post Eq and nothing else in the signal chain. It may be possible that I have edited the default amp eqs. I'm not sure how I did that but those amp sounds are just what pulls up when I select them. I do find that Line 6 puts in horrible default settings on their stuff. Everything is usually set to 5. Try roll up the presence on the amp model or try to brighten the microphone in the cab or amp+cab block. That would be a good way to get rid of a muffled sound. The only compression or anything applied post would be the youtube compression.

How to do that? You have cleaner tone when on a bridge pickup? what settings do you have?
@ryanspencerlauderdale687
@ryanspencerlauderdale687 3 жыл бұрын
So, the amp is set so that if you play harder, it starts to overdrive, but if you play lightly or turn down the volume on your guitar, it cleans up. We call that “edge of breakup.” He just used the stock amp settings, and ran boost type overdrive pedals into the front of the amp to get the gain sound. Then the delay and reverb went after the amp so they sound cleaner.

Any reason you put the delay and verb after the amp and cab?
@ToneJunkieTV
@ToneJunkieTV 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, typical delays and verbs are kept after gain stages. Practically speaking we run them in front of clean amps and run gain pedals before it and it sounds fine. I do it all the time. Effects loop help put delays and reverbs after any overdrive and distortion happening in the pre amp stage, but many times in a studio environment a producer will record a guitar relatively dry and add effects in post as to bypass any and all break up in the signal so the delays and reverbs are kept free from coloration from added gain preceding them in the signal chain. What I built here would be like adding the delay and reverb in post which is generally regarded as the cleanest way to add them but had I put them between the amp and cab like an effects loop it probably would have sounded indistinguishable. Running them in from of the amp would have caused some mud and more break up in the amp block since this amp model was a little broken up. Of course lots of rock greats have run delays and verbs in front of dirty amps and it has gotten a different sound.
