Just bought one of these and as a beginner in all things 'guitar-tech' related, I've waded through about half a dozen 'how to' you-tube guides figuring out how to get started. NB: Line 6 tutorials for this product are highly esoteric and incomprehensible to be honest. This is by far the most concise, straight-forward and well constructed video's I've seen on the Line 6 Pod Go so far. The film-maker has concentrated on what his audience would want to know about the product rather than filling up airtime with playful 'bantz'. Thank-you Tom.

I've had this unit for 18 months. Lots of videos, and this, hands down. is the best. I've yet to really deep dive into it. But the key is writing your own presets, or downloading presets other people have written. There are some really good ones, and some really bad ones. The other thing is monitoring. You need good monitors or headphones. Low quality monitors do not do this justice.

I bought one; love love love it. Had a Pod XT Live back in the day and it was ... ok. This is leagues ahead and I feel like it's the Swiss Army knife I will never sell. I tried several other modellers and I'm so glad I happened to buy back into the ecosystem; a ton of experience and lessons have brought Line 6 to this point imo Not sure if he mentioned, but part of the price point is that it has only one SHARC processor, instead of the two that Helix(es) have ... so you can't do the parallel amp thing and you can get limited to the type of blocks you can add to a preset, depending on how complex the amp or effect model might be. No big deal for me. Like another commenter has said, look into the snapshot functionality ... it's cool ... for each of the 265 presets, you get 4 snapshots ... that is, 4 variations of each preset, so that you don't have to manually switch overdrives, delays, twiddle knobs and parameters ... just set up 4 different combinations of each preset and switch with no gap/glitch ... cool. One thing, when running into a PA/traditional FRFR amp, you will get the sound of a mic-ed speaker cab, which can include some speaker cap fizz when heard through a FRFR setup ... I've read a couple of articles about why this is , compared to how this isn't an issue with an amp in the room, but not quite got my head around it yet. So, question, what eq are folks applying to get rid of the fizz in a PA-based setup? I'm running into a Behringer Eurolive. Thanks!

This, versus HX Stomp (or the HX Stomp XL one), what do you think? Do you consider freedom in chain sequence and multiple routing chain useful on live or recording setting? I'm intertwined between POD GO and Helix Stomp (plus some more pedals to make it easier on live setting).

The PG may not be as robust as others in features but IMO that is a selling point. Amp, cab, some pedals and you’re well on your way to some great tones. I’ve gotten some tones that have the same touch sensitivity as my amps. Great product.

This is a little long but if you're on the fence about modeling this could be a worthwhile read. I bought one of these for late night practicing through headphones and the occasional fly gig/jam. It sounds so good to me that it has become my main rig, but there’s an important catch- I bypass the cab sims and put it straight into the fx loop return of my Bad Cat Cub 15R because, let’s face it, FRFR systems cannot recreate the “amp in a room” sound. Although I’m not about to part with my Eventide H9, the effects on board are good to excellent. I’m still pretty floored by how uniformly great this setup sounds. Just so you don’t think I’m some easily impressed noob, I’ve been playing since the early 80’s and own or have owned great amps by the likes of Mesa (at least 6), Carr, Friedman, Budda, Fender CS, Orange, Rivera, Revv, and so-on. I’ve had my favorites from these brands and I can really say that the Pod Go into my Bad Cat’s fx loop return puts as big a smile on my face as any of the above amps. Maybe I just got lucky and the Bad Cat just happens to “like” the Pod Go and it’s a great combination just by chance? Eventually I’ll pull out other amps to find out. I also think it’s important to mention that in my experience it doesn’t sound good into the front of an amp which makes sense given that you’re putting a modeled preamp into a real preamp in this scenario. Modeling has really come of age IMHO. If you’re tired of lugging a big rig around and you’re intrigued by modeling but don’t like the FRFR experience you should consider this kind of setup. You may be very surprised. Oh yeah, the day after I bought this I got an email from Fractal as I'd been on their waiting list for the past 6 months for a FM3. With all the confidence that I was making the right choice and zero regret to date, I told them I was going to pass. YMMV

So you just plug it in a 1500$ amp? KK cries in poor
@Eric-dd8bk
@Eric-dd8bk 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly. People just plug into the front end of a guitar amp and think a modeler is made to turn their crappy tweed amp into a Marshall JCM800 or something. When in fact a modeler is an amp on its own with a microphone as a part of its signal chain. Of course you can't plug it straight into a front end of another guitar amp and of course it doesn't sound nor feel like how an amp would in a room. So glad to stumble up on an experienced tube amp user who is aware of this simple fact. Unlike many of these tube snobs that don't know what they are doing and this simple fact and just bash modelers and their users.

@@rickhammel9541 FRFR speaker is a speaker made to reproduce the exact sound of what you feed it. Unlike speakers that are in a guitar cab that have its own signature EQ curve that alters the sound you feed it. So a modeler is modeling the full signal chain including the guitar cab and a microphone. You don't want to plug it into another guitar amp. You want to hear its exact sound with an FRFR monitor instead of a guitar amp.

Total pro review, video editing and tasteful playing! I've had my PodGo for about a month now and am very impressed with the tones... especially when connecting direct from the main out's to my studio interface and also when connecting directly to a PA or powered speakers... great tones without the need of using a guitar amp! But I have to say... when I've connected it in to the front of my guitar amp I haven't been that happy... as even when bypassing the PodGo's amp and cab modelling blocks, the unit doesn't seem to work as a true bypass and still seems to 'colour' the sound and muffle the tone of my amp. I use a Roland JC40 for it's amazing clean sounds, but when going through the PodGo I loose the amps tone... as I say, even when bypassing the amp modelling and cab blocks on the PodGo, and even when using the direct Amp Out jack which can be configured to tap out just before the amp and cab modelling blocks.... Basically this means that I can't use the PodGo just as a multi effects pedal board (with no amp and cab modelling), am I doing something wrong? In any case, just for it's use in the studio or for practicing with headphones it's worth investing in one! Many thanks

@@joepuglia2256 I can’t say for sure because my 2 tube amps are being worked on right now, and I haven’t plugged my pod go into one yet. It’s possible that he may have global EQ on or a few things that may also affect that. One easy way to get around that, especially if you’re just running in mono, may be to use a passive/buffered dual side chain looper. Actually you could just use a mono Sidechain looper-The pod go can be in the loop, or switched out to go straight into the amp.

Same experience here, Chris. I eventually bought a cheap little Headrush FRFR (flat frequency flat response) powered monitor which saved the whole deal for me. Now it sounds great (Line6 promotes their Powercab for the same reason). My conclusion is that digital processors (at least this one) sound way better through pure digital signal chain and amplification. Currently I use the Headrush wedge as a monitor, including house mix from my workstation into ch 2 on the back of the Headrush, and go direct to house in stereo to take advantage of all the lush stereo reverbs, delays etc. Not the same thing as a tube amp, just different. It's got own thing happening but it's really damn good, super portable, flexible and useful. Suggestion: make separate hum bucker and single coil presets for your favorite patches.

You know it never even occurred to me that you can not only turn the knobs, you can push them as well! I know, I'm an idiot, but I grew up in a time when we didn't have personal computers, smartphones and all of that. I bought the Boss ME-5 and if I remember correctly that was the first programmable floor processor. I was ahead of my time! And now? Am I getting too old for this? I'm not going to use it live. I want some decent amp models and plug it straight into my audio interface and record it. I should be able to do that. Damn, I feel old. 😖

@tonyloco42
@tonyloco42 4 жыл бұрын
Yes you get both, with the full Pod signal going to PA, but one gripe is that so far, you can only globally bypass the Pod's speaker cabinet/IRs to the front of your onstage amp - you cant globally bypass the amp model too, so you are effectively sending the Pod Go preamp to your onstage amp's preamp. Not ideal unless you switch off the amp models individually in the Pod. Sending the amp-out to your onstage amp's FX return is better as it is the only using the power-amp section of the onstage amp and therefore NOT double preamping.

I do NOT want this to change the sound of my amp whatsoever and have ZERO use for any cab and amp sims. Can this even be done using the AMP OUT and direct into my AC15? If it is possible what settings do I need to change to accomplish this if any? When I got this I acted excited as to not hurt any feelings BUT it's like what the hell am I going to do with this digital thing? Any help would be very much appreciated as I have had this thing for over a month and never even taken it out of the box and it's still sealed. If I am going to keep it and use it I would want it to be "invisible" until I added a effect and just use this as for the most part as a traditional pedal board so to speak. @@stevesargent8731 Thank You for the reply as I took it out of the box this last weekend and it works just as well as any pedal in front of my amp. I have spring reverb and tremolo on my AC15 so only having 4 blocks to use is not any of a issue really. I am going to keep it and Thanks again!

@@fishermanryan It works well as I tried it this past weekend. Just keep in mind you only have 4 blocks (effects) you can use this way at any one time. My amp has a reverb tank and tremolo so 4 blocks on top of that is plenty for me. It is no different if you put a digital pedal in front of your amp really. Hope this helps?

Hi there... I am using this with my violin. I've created a patch with the blocks that I normally use (verb, octave, chorus). However when I use the octave and verb, the effect is lost. I've tried turning up their effect in the mix and it just doesn't seem as strong as I've had with other pedals such as the boss me80. What could be going on?

I was hoping you would show how to connect the pod go to a lap top, iPad, etc., and an amp for those of us who are not tech savvy and new to these contraptions. Your title says beginner's guide so please make it for absolute beginners. Thanks.

So can you use one of these in place of a amp head? Or do you still need an amp head then run th fx chain out to in the input then the output into the cabinet?

Got a home stereo? hook it up to like Aux-in left and right channels to get the stereo sound. Hooking it up to a guitar amp will be only mono sound. Or do you have decent computer monitor speakers? then USB it to your PC, the Pod-Go is it's own audio interface, it should be stereo too. Go stereo!

I know the Pod Go will USB into a computer as a audio interface, but what 1/4 inch out should be used to plug into the front of an audio interface? The "Amp Out" or the mono out? Sick playing by the way! Your outro lick was bad ass. Thank you, MK

is there any way to hear the line 6 pod go plugged direct FOH without a stage amp using a full band? I've seen hundreds of youtube videos talking about how great the new modelers are live, but not one video showing an actual band playing one direct FOH... Jeez and skip the board recordings too, Just stick a good old condenser mic in the back of the room. I don't want to hear a studio sounding recording, I want to hear an actual demo of what these things actually sound like live in a room with other musicians. HOW HARD COULD IT BE ?
@AlexHand
@AlexHand 4 жыл бұрын
You get a really nice, smooth tone out of those settings. Could you do a video explaining how you got there with EQ settings, etc? I got the Pod Go today and it's harder than it looks to keep it from sounding bright, clanky and artificial. I cut the highs but then it gets dull. I'm running a recently set up Ibanez with Lindy Fralin Pure PAF humbuckers straight into it and studio headphones out so I know the other gear isn't lacking.

Hi Tom, big fan of you! :-) About to pull the trigger on this but I'm looking for info on the parametric eq within the fixed eq for every patch. Viewed info on the full Helix (e.g. here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZm6nJmFjs2Vpbs) that displays a similar parametric eq that I'm used to from my Katana amps. Question is if the parametric eq within the Pod Go is the same - especially if the low and high cuts are available in the same way. Would appreciate your input on this since it cannot be read in the manual (available online). Cheers!

Why is it so damn difficult for these companies (Line 6, Boss, Head Rush, etc) to make useable presets???
@martinthompson2425
@martinthompson2425 2 жыл бұрын
“Useable” is a pretty broad term…the manufacturers make presets that demonstrate the vast capabilities of their products…and make consumers go “wow!” Unfortunately (haha), we end users have to do SOME work to get what we really want from these units. I’m willing to do the work and am probably going to grab one of these VERY soon! Great video!
