It's an ideal first amp. Cheap and versatile. Doesn't do any one thing great but it makes sense that it's so popular. It's easy to use and can be used to achieve a very wide variety of tones. Not really meant to be a high end amp I don't get all of the hate toward it.

Amazing how companies like Mesa, Peavey, Engl, Marshall etc. can justify charging literally over 20 times more for an item that performs nearly identically. This tone is just as good if not better than some of the very expensive amps he's tested in my opinion. Good job Line 6!
The headphone out is actually my favorite way to record with this amp But you really have to dial the eq a lot different than if youre using the speaker, plus I use emg 85 as my bridge pickup, so it needs even less gain and treble as a passive pups or the 81

LukeH97 I've got a 75w and with a little bit of work I can make it sound passable. I do have a preamp and an overdrive running through it, so as to not fully rely on the amp's built in distortion. I slave an Orange Crush 20 to it to punch up the channel, and after that it really is just a matter of spinning knobs around. I can get the whole thing to sound somewhat decent. It's certainly not my dream rig, but it is certainly not the worst I've ever played on.

This is the LIVING proof of what I have always said...tone is primarily (though not entirely) in the player and NOT in the amp. This guy can get his intensely heavy sound through practically any decent rig, Great stuff Ola. Thanks for all your gear demos and online support for heavy guitarists. Greatly appreciated bro.
@Jinkyuu19999 жыл бұрын
The tone is subjective I actually have the 120 w of this version at first if dont know how to dial in then it's going to sound horrible! The more you use it the more your going to find good tones! Rule of thumb don't max your drive/gain out if you want to clean it up or like fuzz especially metal red another control your threshold right! Max your mids always unless you play old school metal! I actually get good tones out of this because I got a good guitar with great pickups! Although I played a Peavey 6505 a marshall jcm 900 and Orange micro terror! They all sound badass but for an amp like this it's still good amp especially if you get a higher wattage! Get whatever you like and play the shit out of it hails horns up metalheads \m/!

Yup I do the same thing: mids ALL the way up, and bass at 11.5 and treble at 11. Then crank the drive and volume all the way up and use my volume knob on my guitar as my master volume control. This is on a spider 3 30 watt 1x12.
@Rakkhun3694 жыл бұрын
I usually use: Gain: 8 Chan level: smack dab in the middle Master Vol: whatever gets the chan mid Bass: 5 Mid: 9 Treble: 7 Then I add reverb in my DAW. Sound is pretty decent. Mine is noisy as hell if I don’t balance out the Chan level, and it’s hard to get a good OD sound from it without a good pedal.

Additional Tips When you select an Amp Model, Spider IV automatically sets its tone controls and effects to match the Amp Model. I personally love line 6 for the fact that you have a base to work with and the built in effects. Line 6 presets usually have way to much gain and high end to begin with but if you know what you're doing you'll be able to get a great tone. People just think they can plug in and play right off the bat and that's not the case with any amp, especially line 6. If you're gonna get a line 6 then I highly recommend their bogner series.

Does the job for me. I like Line 6 amps though. Eventually plan to buy a good tube head, just not sure what. For the money though, you can't really beat a Line 6. Tons of effects and tones. the "sound' is still there because it becomes a magnet that picks up vibrations it the air. The resonance of the wood affects the character of these vibrations. I can listen to two DI signals of my guitars and tell a massive difference with the same pickups.

It's usefull if you play in a band with more than one sound, but you also have a wah wah integrated, which sounds pretty good. I'd add to that. For some genres, especially where you're using clean or lower gain crunch settings (think AC/DC or even Van Halen), the guitar does make a pretty noticeable difference, but as you turn up the gain and add heavy bass and drums for most metal styles, the differences disappear into the mix and especially into the amp.

Your first sentence is kind of conflicting, but I do get what you mean. Everything contributes to your tone. Amp, effects, pickups, strings, fretboard, wood quality, shielding, Scale length. etc. All these factors can contribute to one's desired tone. But we must remember that somethings factor in bigger on your tone than others, in preference of course. I met some who believe woods are the biggest thing to contribute to tone than pickups and vice versa.
@CrossPain1112 жыл бұрын
I was sayin' that the amp doesn't play a part cuz, I mean, you could change the guitar drastically and it can still sound bad if you're playing through a bad amp. I just mean that the pickups in a guitar can make a HUGE difference in tone. And not just that, but also the quality of the cable and the strings, too.

It sounds decent through the mix but by itself it will sound like an Autobot. You can hear it slightly through the mix with headphones or monitors
@krisrhebergen10 жыл бұрын
It mostly comes down to the gain and mids levels. People usually use way to much gain and way to little mids. When recording, nearly all the deep tones are comming from the bass guitar and the only reason you hear the guitar at all is because the mids are not scooped and are cutting through the mix. Its a lot like a quality stereo system where you have a separate subwooffer speaker that is exclusively for the bass tones and the other speakers are exclusively mids and treble. Thats how you get that balanced good tone.
@1985piter10 жыл бұрын
It not depends on amp but on fingers.
@IwishIwereJoe9 жыл бұрын
To say the tone he is getting is just "his fingers" is really stupid and naive . Playing cleanly and have nice bends, slides, and playing with emotion is why people say tone comes from your playing . Even when he's chugging a simple riff that almost anyone can play it still sounds amazing . Know why ??? Because of how he records . . it doesn't have to do so much with the amp or guitar . It has a lot more to do with how he records, and what he uses to record . Which is most likely high end mics, software, computers , etc.... You can take just about any shitty amp modeler or cheap effects processor and if you mic it up well, or run it through a high end recording software or interface, you can manipulate it to sound much better . He's mentioned some of his gear before , he has a recording interface that's easily $1,000+ , not to mention all his recording software, computer , mic etc... If he wanted to make a true demo he'd just play the damn amp straight from the guitar . But he doesn't, because his goal is to make the thing sound as best as possible so suckers can buy it . Thinking they'll sound just as amazing . I have an epiphone les paul black beauty with dimarzio's , and a schecter with dimarzio's, it used to have emg 81's. I could run it through something really cheap like vox valvetronix amp and it would still sound like a shitty little amp , so to say he has an amazing guitar and that's why it sounds is amazing is false too . Trust me it's all in the recording techniques and recording gear he uses .

Fender vibroluxes have had a built in tremolo since the 1956? The echosonic's had a slapback effect in the 50's?

Listen to the single panned center.. it sounds like a 15w solid state line6... Just because it's small and not tube doesn't mean you can't make half decent recordings. Mic it up! Track hard L and R, profit! Of course technique, Ola's hands, and the TB-6's help to get the tone ;)
