For the money this is the best amp ever. My friend makes fun of it all the time, but this thing taught me how to play and without any pedals is able to cover tons of genres of music. A VOX AC30 is what I use primary, but to this day I keep a Line 6 in my bedroom for quiet casual practice!

+MikeGaming yeah that sounds just like me. I actually use a spider II tube combo for gigs. I find it really hard to get a good tone with the amp but the cleans sound warm. So what I do is I have it set to Aqualung, the best sounding effect, I then set it to clean and I use my EVH5150 overdrive pedal to get my sound.

Dude, the Insane model on this thing is ridiculous. I set the gain to 3 and put it on insane and it sounded like Kerry King's wet dream. It's an incredible amp, and it sounds amazing for the price. I put it on crunch, set tape echo to about 1/2, turned the channel on my Bullet to a low setting and set the tone to about halfway between mid and neck, and I swear I made an Eric Johnson mockup for less than 500 bucks.

I began playing in the mid 50's, so lots of gear and my musical taste falls in line with my formative years like most. This amp was tailored to a different era of play, however i have used mine with a 12" cab at 8 ohms and find the amp, if properly set up on the clean or a mild crunch to be very Fenderish like as my actual Fenders. One cannot discount this amp as a one trick pony for OD sounds. Thanks for the review (belated as this comment is).
I remember when I bought this amplifier and fell in love with everything about it. The crunch with little reverb was my favorite to play when it came to blues/jazz. The distortion is also tasty when it comes to metal! I miss that amp, I think I'm going to buy another some time soon.

I learned a lot from this video. I've had this amp since I started playing 7 years ago. The guy at guitar center recommended it. I didn't know you could save presets like that. That's great to know. One problem I've always seemed to have though is when I switch to the clean tone it automatically adds one of the echo effects to it. I'm not sure which one but it gets annoying. Especially when playing something that just needs a clean tone without any effects.

As an experienced musician I'd like to give advice to kids thinking about line 6's specifically this model...don't buy it. Most people buy these amps simply because they think it has a lot of distortion power and are captured by the effect knobs like the phaser, chorus flange, sweep echo, tape echo tremolo etc. but it's all garbage. *note the clean channel is probably the only redeemable aspect of this amp because it's actually pretty great* Unless you're going to use this amp for your clean sounds it's useless because no matter what setting you toy with as far as the gain and overdrive is concerned its always muddy. No matter what combination of mid treb bass level you use it will always sound muddy. It's much MUCH better if you instead buy a small fender, marshall or vox tube home amp because you can get those signature tones, they are easily footswitch adaptable and they are considerably loud while keeping tone and they're AFFORDABLE. I promise you can't go wrong with small tube amps. I use them regularly and basically only use the old line 6 for the flanger on the clean channel because it sounds outta this world.

Uhhh, maybe you just have shitty equipment? I’ve had amps that will shit on the line6. But that doesn’t mean it’s a bad amp. Especially for the money. I picked one up for 40$ and for what it is, it’s fantastic. Also, all of my guitars sound different through this amp. But none of them sound “muddy” unless I adjust it to sound that way. Even my lower tuned guitars sound pretty good on this amp with a little fiddling. But for a beginner starting out, it’s a great amp for rock/metal. Tube amp players are like PC gamers. Everything else is shit except for what they like.🙄

***** The Peavey amp wasn't very good compared to this one. I think all small practice amps sound cheap, but the Line 6 sounds less cheap than the Peavey did.
@carlosrootsbassman10 жыл бұрын
***** I made a mistake in my original comment. After thinking about it, I bought new a mid-90's transtube peavy amp. 15watt if I remember correctly. So, going on 20 years now, not 10.. Sheesh, I'm getting old. Anyway, for the time, it was decent for what I paid, which was around $70. Playing with the distortion on sounded really cheap and tinny though. Something I didn't notice much starting out, but really bugged me as I got better. I resorted to buying a distortion pedal and playing that through the clean channel for a better sound. Maybe other, or newer, model Peavey amps are better? I saw your 6505 is a tube amp and I heard you can never go wrong with a tube. Yeah, the line 6 can sound canned - I agree there. Here's my overview after using it for a couple of months... There are definitely settings I won't use on it ever. For instance, I hate the metal and 'extreme' sounds on it. They get muddy. I am not a fan of the preset buttons, although you can modify them to your liking, the sound gets 'wonky' once you fiddle with the knobs again. I was a fan at first of the presets, but I find that they are very constraining. Although I can't fine-tune the effects, I still like the included effects it comes with and for a beginner or just a person who wants to occasionally fiddle with a phaser or echo sound it's not bad. I am also a fan of the rudimentary tuner it comes with. It's not 100% accurate, but for a quick practice it gets the job done.

Hey. I have the Line 6 Spider III 2X12 150W, and the "Metal" and "Insane" presets sounds very different. The "Metal" is very balanced, but the "Insane" was saturated with bass. I currently use "Insane" anyway because it has a little more gain. I just turned the bass down to about 20% and the Treble to about 80%. This guy's 15W Spider IV does sound a little different from my amp though.

Definitely. Try the crunch setting with about medium gain.

I think it's a nice little amp for beginners, bedroom practice, or giving lessons. I got one to use for giving guitar lessons. The CD/MP3 input is a nice useful tool. I can hook up my MP3 player with pre-recorded drums/rythm/bass loops I created on my DAW or MV8800, to use as lessons so me and my students can jam along.

In the manual, I believe, it said you can get even more Reverb and Drive/Distortion by using the TAP button, any idea how that works? PS: The reason the tape echo didn't work is because you pushed the TAP to fast, I think

tap it as fast as you can for the most psooible effekt and tap a little slower for less

If you connect to a mixer via record out , is the sound on the speaker of the amp muted?

And what Kreason means is that Epiphone is a brand in itself, not just for cheap Gibson copies. While that's their main market now, many older Epiphones will go for a very high price indeed, and are very high quality instruments.
