Man, there are quite a lot of very usable sounds in there! Granted, there's a handful of proper ear-bleeders, but overall, actually kind of impressive.

just got the 60 watt version of this. i have this and a peavey 6505+ amp head so this spiders just my practice amp/demo recording amp. these sounds are actually pretty amazing! once you find out how to work it almost all of these presets have to have the amp changed which you do by clicking edit and scrolling all the way to the top. also you can change the cab, noise gate, so many different effects ALOT of people are sleeping on this! i admit at first i HATED it and the sounds it came with but then when i started to change the amps and cabs and the effects i fell in love with it! if anybodys thinking of getting it as a practice amp or just to jam at home alone or record straight from the amp this is an excellent choice for its price!

Presets are just like the sample tunes on a keyboard. They just give you an idea of what the product can do. Its like buying a pedal, you don't just leave the knobs in the positions they are shipped in. If you can't make music with what this thing has, well, your not using your full abilities...

I have a bunch of tube amps, including a Marshall JCM800 half stack, but I wanted something for headphone practice that was versatile but didn't cost a lot. I ended up buying a used Spider V 120HC. I have a Katana 50 which is a great practice amp, but it doesn't sound good with headphones. I've not been a fan of Line 6 amps, although I do own a 2.0 POD, but this amp impressed me because you can, via the speakers or headphone, play numerous styles of music. There's also a looper and drum loops. Most of the presets sound terrible, but there's enough close ones to let you know can tweak something that you like. Color me surprised. So now I own the world's largest headphone/practice amp! :-)

My Digitech GSP1101 is a 10 year old preamp and it still kicks the crap out of this new Line 6 stuff they keep coming out with. I definitely recommend it for any one looking for a great recording preamp/processor.
@crummockiphail97208 жыл бұрын
Digitech isn't really any better than Line 6 IMO. When it comes down to it, they're all just different flavors of the same thing -- low end digital modelling gear. All the affordable stuff is practically interchangeable. Line 6, Digitech, Zoom, Boss, etc.
@kordaxmint5338 жыл бұрын
Yeah, just buy some good overdrive pedals... even optical/transistor, but analog distortion is much better than this useless stuff.

Nope, Wrong, I went from Digitech to this, this kills it walks all over it. The last good digitech was the 2120 artist, which I still have and cant hold a candle to the new Spider V.
@arkivik5 жыл бұрын
Sent my Spider V to the company for repairs and it came back with 2.0 software (current obtainable software is 1.6). The preset tones have changed... For the better! The original tones were absolute garbage, while some remain alot of the filler tones were replaced with more favorable GUITAR SOUNDING TONES. Alot of 'meh' but i dont have to roll my eyes finding what I want. There are tones from Ola and Fluff, and other musicians. Also the default UI has changed to add the name of the creator under the name of the preset. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think they added another speaker setting option. From CLASSIC to FULL RANGE. Other than that nothing new.

But in my honest opinion $149.00 is to much after I sat threw with it for a few hours I would give Line 6 at max 100 to 110 in my opinion but for what its worth it isn't bad just put a new speaker in it or run a extention and your good to go!

Is there a slipknot preset?
@mattpipke57166 жыл бұрын
Pre sets are for little girls, forget about pre sets, they use pre sets to show you that you can do anything, your job is to dive in and pick the amp slipknot uses, then add the cab, add in the pedals, they use and the dist then dial in the amps settings etc.. and yes, you can make it exactly like their tone, any tone. This unit has every possible amp, cab, pedal, setting you can buy, so it is like having a store full of gear, you can mix and match any gear you want to make any sound you want, this is the most amazing amp out in a decade, and all these fan boys who dont know what they are talking about are crapping on pre sets, that alone shows you have no clue. Any digital pre amp, any modeler amp you have to dial in settings, pre sets are just to demo the amp.

These amps are fun in isolation, but I wouldn't have confidence in a live band/rehearsal setting. The overdrive settings seem to disappear. I think Boss Katana may have smoked this market sector for that reason. Interestingly, they have a new head with XLRs out for a board. I'm not sure if using such amps in that fashion would solve the 'cut' problem, but I wouldn't underestimate proper mixing considering the precedent guitarist Lincoln Brewster set actually touring with one of their earlier pedalboards! LOL
@mattpipke57166 жыл бұрын
I play in a live band gig with it, it is awesome!! I have used all tube amps, solid state tube power amps with dig pre amps, etc.,. you name it, in 30 years I have gigged with everything. this set up the 240hc running out to a Mesa 4x12 sounds amazing!!! I feel more confident with this than I ever did with my tube set up, tube set ups have problems, electrical issues, temp issues, power supply issues, tube issues, they are expensive and break down, they are heavy, hard to move and cost a lot, no thanks, I sold all my old tune gear and never looked back, my guitar tone sounds freaking amazing!! As good or better than it ever has and it is all so simple this head, my cab and a foot board, done, I can sound like anything, anything, and I have direct out xlrs for running to the board or recording, it has built in wireless, and full range speakers making it the only set up that when you add a 4x12 can be used for acoustic guitars as well as it is a true full range speaker system when you add in the head speakers, you simply cant get more for less and I cant find anything in this price range that even comes close to the sound and quality and features, nothing out there.

my only gripe is they still dont do tubes in their amps. Why so cold line6? Why?
@mattpipke57166 жыл бұрын
Tubes are expensive and limit you and have to be replaced every 6 months, and you can make this amp sound exactly like a tube amp. I did , sounds better and it lighter simpler and I dont need the expense of tubes and the repairs and replacement all the time, and the weight, etc.. Anything you can buy with tubes for $500 wont even hold a candle to this amp.

why are the factory presets always unusable fucking jokes on these gears. Not even on the axe fx, they usually just a fucking mess, at best you get an idea from them. sound wise it's pretty good, but you must understand that it's not a hi-end gear, it's a practice tool
@MrBrian-fq4lr8 жыл бұрын
I think Fractal at least has an excuse for boring generic presets. Everyone has different cabs/monitors/speakers/room setups at home, it's not a typical amp, so there isn't a standard for what people are going to be using with the unit. It's kind of impossible to dial something in that's going to sound amazing for everyone. Something might sound good through someone's 2x12, but sound shit through some FRFR, while another person is using near field studio monitors. So instead, they just try to provide a variety of sounds using the different amps and effects to show what the thing offers, and it's up to users to tweak it to their own equipment. Stuff like combo amps are a little different, because the speaker and cab are already set in stone, so you can actually dial something in that's going to pretty much sound the same for all users. There isn't as much of an excuse in that case.
@Explorer7668 жыл бұрын
I have the 240. If you turn down the gain on the high gain presets you are ok. In addition some of the high gains have additional distortion pedals on them. You turn those off and get to the amp and build back up to taste. This is a pointless video in that regard.
@mattpipke57166 жыл бұрын
You just have to start from scratch, go to a bank, start with an amp, it takes a while, but you build your own tone, i took me two weeks of daily tweaking to get it where I love it, but now I could do it in a few minutes after getting to know the amp.
