A line and wash sketch of the Cley Smokehouse in Cley on the North Norfolk Coast. I show you my process for sketching with a fine liner pen and painting with watercolour.

For this project, I used Windsor and Newton Professional Watercolours in Payne's Grey, Quinacridone Gold, Permanent Alizarin Crimson and Viridian.

Hi Lou, thank you for your inspiration. I just love your very relaxed, interesting and detailed style of drawing (very similar to mine!) My daughter lives in Norfolk and often sends me photos of the surrounding buildings and landscape. I know the bricks and stones are time consuming, but they add so much to the image.

Viridian is very close to phthalo green in hue, but so useful in mixing since it is granulating. It can do amazing things combined with either a flat or another granulating pigment, they separate from each other in a wash for lots of fun. M. Graham makes an outstanding version but since you are in the UK go for a pan from Roman Szmal.. it's inexpensive and honey based so a million times easier to work with than the Winsor Newton version.

Thanks so much for the recommendation. I've been reading up on it because thought I couldn't be the only one having problems and it's a very useful colour - it seems adding glycerine might help, but if not I'll maybe look into trying the Roman Szmal pan you suggest :)

@@LouDavis glycerin would totally help but you kind of have to mix it in before it dries into the pan so if it's a pre pan color it's kind of difficult to do

Hi Lou, I enjoyed this video so much. I wanted to say HI. I have a Tech. Illustrator back ground "Art Institute of Boston". I also have a very Mechanical/technical back ground. Have not done any, Water Color. Pen and ink mostly and some Air Brush. I do a lot of colored pencils for quick and easy. I did oils and acrylics before my interest in Tech Illustrating. I somehow acquired a sudden interest in water color. Something new I guess. I researched here in YT and found your' videos. I have paints and I'm thinking I will try some of your' lovely Art Work. Thanks from a lover of sketching and drawing, in Florida, USA, for sharing what you do. Liked and subbed. PS I must, also add you are lovely!🌹
