I've almost started exclusively buying kits from newtype because they were one of your original sponsors. Gotta say your builds have come a long way and I never get tired of your content. Keep it up my dude.

so, I know nothing of creating panel lining. I come from the world of tabletop miniatures games, like warhammer 40K, and Infinity. Could you do a short video demonstrating the process/processes for creating panel lining with these and any other tools?

Been looking at panel line scribers but knowing where to start and the brands which have longest lasting and best quality is frustrating. Might I add that Papa Gundam should be a hand model

Wait, have I been using scribing tools wrong this entire time? I thought you use them along the curved side (the side that looks like a blade) like you do typical cutting tools, but I see here he's using the "flat" side. Is that how you're supposed to use scribing tools because I've been doing the opposite this entire time.
@paktahn
@paktahn Жыл бұрын
yes you have been using it wrong scribing tools are basically very narrow chisels practically identical in form and function to wood chisels although they are used in a different way in a scraping way by dragging the cutting edge on the surface but can also be pushed using a lot of caution
@loli-knightxardej2252
@loli-knightxardej2252 Жыл бұрын
@@paktahn Oh wow. Well, now I certainly feel silly since I've been in the hobby for almost 20 years now. Albeit, mostly with things where scribing tools don't see much use, but still. Thanks for the heads up! I'll have to whip out an older Gunpla kit out of the backlog just to try things out again.
@theswedistanihobo4334
@theswedistanihobo4334 Жыл бұрын
Hehe, it's an easy mistake to make since using the flat side feels a bit counter-intuitive. Hopefully your next project turns out great!

@@loli-knightxardej2252 i wouldnt worry much about it at i have never seen one company that sells the tools have any sort of detailed instructions on how to use them the only reason i knew how was from my previous wood working experience
@paktahn
@paktahn Жыл бұрын
practically all scribing tools are over priced i find it much better to make your own and the harder the tool the easier it is to break its not being used to engrave or cut metal it does not need to be hard mild steel works just as good and wont break like how people are always crying about their over priced godhand nippers broke
@theswedistanihobo4334
@theswedistanihobo4334 Жыл бұрын
I do agree that a lot of them are overpriced but there are reasons material hardness is actually really important for scribing tools. When sharpened to a very thin and precise point/edge, if used a lot with little to no force, even hard steel used exclusively on wood or plastic will have the edges deform/curve which ruins their precision. This isn't much of an issue for most tools/knives as they can just be given a fresh grind without noticeable difference in how they perform but when dealing in precision lines in the 10ths of millimeters it makes a huge difference in how the end result looks. Someone without precise sharpening tools and long-time experience will never be able to recreate the original grind on a scribing tool at home.
@paktahn
@paktahn Жыл бұрын
@@theswedistanihobo4334 you make some valid points about inexperienced people attempting sharpening but at the same time they make tools to aid in it and they are easily reproduced at home from a simple piece of wood i never thought about it since i have been sharpening knives by hand for about 30 years or so since my father taught me when i was about 10 years old and it is true that softer metal will need to be resharpened frequently but it is a valid trade of for a tool that wont break another note would be that the companies making these tools could just use spring steel that has the best of both worlds in a sense and is not much more expensive than hardened tool steel imho i think that they intend for them to break as its the only way they would really ever need to sell a second pair to a customer anyway most hobby tools are over priced from glue to paint and can be sourced in cheaper much larger quantities outside the hobby field

It's kinda weird that NewtypeHQ sponsors you; they sell BLM waterside decals as well. Either they like money, or know you're good enough of a builder to look past politics. Or don't know about your main channel lol.
@jakefoley9539

I get the sense they don't care about politics and just like making money. I mean in the time since they started selling those the BLM movement has lost public favor, been disavowed by its founders and revealed to be a scam resulting in not a single black life improved. To still be repping BLM at this point says "idgaf I just want a good ESG score".
