The mechanics of dog breeding and creating a line of dogs (or even a separate dog breed) is explained. This is meant to be educational in nature.
The term prepotent means a dog that can produce offspring with his same characteristics. The reason is that a dog that is homozygous for a certain trait will pass this trait 100% of the time to their offspring.

Hi Alex great content great appearance on nwa cane corso podcast with Mr church In my learning journey into genetics I have so many questions For example If there was a siblings inbreeding 1 male 1 female were specimens A number were culls for genetic deformity reasons Are the specimen male and female now a cleaner version of the line less likely to pass genetic disorders in the next generation? Or is there still the same issues hidden deeper in the genetic combination possibilities? Or is inbreeding truly pointless unless creating a new breed entirely? Please Forgive my simplified questioning

Method 1: Aunt to nephew: 3-2 breeding. Method 2: Uncle to niece mating which is 2-3. say for example you have two half brothers. The half brother has a daugther via being mated to an unrelated female. This daugther, from half brother-A is bred to half brother-B. She is the niece of half brother B. The other example is you have a half brother and a half sister. Half brother-A is mated an unrelated fame and he has a son with her. This son, once he is an adult at 2 years of age, is bred to his father's half-sister . The son is the nephew of his father's half-sister. What's common is champion dog is the grandfather of one offspring, but the parent to the other offspring. There is no difference between uncle to niece or aunt to nephew mating, as they both produce an outcome of 37.5% of coefficient of relationship to the champion dog that is grandfather to the offspring on one side, and great grandfather on the other side. In other words, you are getting a verbal summary of this approach as it relates to the grandsire involved. It's not really the parents generation you are focused upon, but the grandparent. Your goal is to balance your need for hybrid vigor on the one hand, with doubling up on the allele pairs of the champion dog on the other hand. Your goal of high allelic frequency of genes has been accomplished, but it reduces (to some extent) the doubling up of recessive traits as compared to a half sibling mating. In other words, instead of breeding half siblings (which have a COR of 50% and a COI of 12.5%), you have bred one half sibling and the child of this half sibling is then bred back to the other half sibling. In other words, you a breeding a child of the half sibling, not the half siblings directly to each other. You have concentrated the genes of the parent that is common to both half siblings, but reduced the COR from 50% to 37.5% making it a little bit safer and the COI dropped from 12.5% to 9.63%, also a bit safer. In other words, it's slightly milder inbreeding, with other dog's genes thrown into the mix to reduce the odds of doubling up on deleterious traits. You still need to test the genetic testing of the dogs involved and you still need to cull dogs with bad traits. In other words, a 2-3 breeding is not as tight as a 2-2 breeding. It's still pretty tight however. Without linebreeding and inbreeding lines within breeds couldn't have been established. You are trying to balance risk versus reward by concentrating genes of the common ancestor, but not letting your COI get too high where the risk is also very high.

Prepotent is not about likelihood. It is about actual ability to produce with greater influence. While an inbred or heavily linebred dog SHOULD be prepotent, they are bot necessarily so if their foundation dog carries a number of recessive traits. While allelic frequency of those genes was increased through the inbreeding, the “prepotency” was not necessarily increased when bred outside the line.

You're right, but i was trying to explain to the viewer that the ability of the offspring to perform like the foundation dog linebred upon, is not guaranteed but is higher likehood. So while his physical structure and anatomical characteristics will be enforced, there is no guarantee that the offspring will perform exactly like in temperament or behavioral characteristics. Anatomy yes, but behaviorally it's hard to say. I did a 2-3 breeding in my kennel and the puppies were very consistent and looked like Jucan von Peroh, but while they all had high prey drive and high tenacity and pain tolerance, their behavior was not identical in many other respects. So I was trying to explain to the viewer what to expect versus not to expect while trying to keep the video as short as possible. I have not yet bred any of these 2-3 pups as they are not old enough yet. I'm sure if bred in next generation, they will overpower their female partner they are bred to and are likely to be prepotent and pass themselves forward with their characteristics over their partner they are bred to.
