to let things linger is to let things sit with you such as emotions and memories. things can linger in a sad way sort of like ruminating or in a good way like reminiscing on the good ol days! lately when ppl say they let it linger its often in a rather melancholy way. Hope that helps! and thanks for the awesome guitar tutorial I love this !!

This is the first song I’m learning on guitar and I didn’t realize it would be so difficult to sing while strumming 😭. I’ve tried to sing it while strumming a million times and I still can’t get it. So I watched some guitar covers of this song to see how other people did it, and the strumming they all do is way easier😭😭 no wonder I was having such a hard time.

Some people have given what the actual meaning of the word linger is. However in the context of this song it has a different meaning (In my opinion). "I swore, I swore I would be true And honey so did you So why were you holding her hand? Is that the way we stand? Were you lying all the time? Was it just a game to you?" In this verse from the intro it mentions the man she is singing about holding someone elses hand. However she also states "is that the way we stand?" as in were you just stood next to her or were you holding her hand. His hand was lingering next to hers. And she is reading into that lingering of the hand that actually he doesn't like her. "Do you have to let it linger?" I think is in reference to his hand lingering next to hers and therefore throwing their own relationship into doubt and having her questioning herself. I think as well she is singing about her own insecurities in relationships and that really, if he hadn't been holding hands with this other girl then it would have all been fine.
