Great lesson! Funny how english has a lot of prepositions from, of, by... And in Portuguese and French we use "de" for most of things. Thank u so much! It was so useful!

Bonjour! I am a little bit confused, about 'du' and 'de'. I read that 'du' can also used to express appartenance. I hope you can help me. Merci
@lingoniFRENCH4 жыл бұрын
Bonjour, yes that is true. Imagine you want to say it's the neighbour's car. You cannot say c'est la voiture de le voisin, DE LE is contracted in French and becomes DU, but this DU is a hidden "DE + an article". I hope that helped !

When saying something belongs to you, would you still use "de"? For instance, "The glasses are mine." Would it be translated as, "Les lunettes sont de moi"?
@lingoniFRENCH2 жыл бұрын
In that case, you need to say : Les lunettes sont à moi/ toi/ lui, elle/ nous/ vous eux, elles. Excellent question though!

Hi Alicia, could I please ask you why it is said "la voiture des voisins", but "un sac de bonbons"? My confusion is about the declination (singular VS plural) of de/des. Merci beaucoup
@lingoniFRENCH3 жыл бұрын
Hi Claudia, these two examples are not expressing the same idea. in the first we say that the car belongs to the neighbors, so we use des as the English 's. However in the second one, we mean that the bag is full of candy, it's a bag OF candy, not "candy'S bag", so you need to put DE and not DES.

So I have learned two important lessons here, firstly how to correctly use de to express affiliation and secondly how to get into a fight with a native French speaker.

Bonjour! Dear Alice, do we have to use the article defini before the (de)?
@lingoniFRENCH4 жыл бұрын
Bonjour :) Give me an example in a sentence, to make sure I understand well, amd Ii will tell you if it works or not.
@dinisaurusfilm4 жыл бұрын
@@lingoniFRENCH oh I'm sorry, what I meant is, do we have to use the article defini after the (de)? like "la raquette de tennis" and not "la raquette de le tennis"? or "le sac de bonbons" not "le sac du bonbons?" because I see the sentence "le livre de la bibliotheque" and its using the article (la).
