Here is a Video review of LingTing's newest kalimba release, the K21W 21 keys in F major tone.

Ling Ting 17 & 21 key as well as Seeds 34 key Kalimbas are my absolute favorites. However, that said, the sharp corners on the LingTing K21 were really bothering me. I bought a Hluru 21 key thinking that would be better on my hands, which it was, but I did not like the sounds of the tines as much as the LingTing so I returned it. Now what, I thought? Light bulb moment! I took some 220 grit sandpaper and sanded off the sharp edges on my Ling Ting 21(the 17 key corners don't bother me), then rubbed it with a good quality wood oil. Oh my gosh! That made all the difference in the world to my hands! It feels like silk in my hands, and sounds like heaven to my ears. Thought I would share this tip here in hopes of saving another Ling Ting user from setting aside this heavenly instrument like I had done. Blessing to you all. =)

(I am much more likely to make a purchase After seeing a review from Tip's Kalimba telling me that it's worth it. 😃) Also, hi Tip! 🙂 This is one of my favorite vids that you've done! What do You thunk about Hluru 21 Jey Kalimba woodenflatboard. I own one since Janzary an ithink the sound is realy, nice, full and sweet. The one thing that confuses me about it is, that the deep c and the second d come easily out if tune. But as they are in my most played keys in my practised songs, so it may be a problem of too hard pressing the keys. Do you know hluru kalimba and what do you think about it?

Thank you for your videos! I already have a Gecko K15 kalimba. I am also waiting for a small handmade kalimba that should be sent to me shortly. I'm thinking of buying another kalimba for my 26th birthday and I decided it should be a 21-tine kalimba, but I can't choose between LingTing, Hluru and Gecko. How good are these brands? Which one would you recommend?

I got my lingting 21k today, omg..❤love it! They have lengthened the chain, I have to say, its resonance is sweet, and lasts longer, then my other kalimbas. I have a hluru kalimba 21k with a hollow at the base, its basically like a typical hollow kalimba, the tines on it, move WAY too easily. And one of tines sounds half dead🙄 also the b tines need tuning to bflat, 😅 I think it might be a knock off, as some shops dont advertise as hluru, but have the logo on the kalimbas..🤔 the base is well polished, but I think it needs improvement with the tines. The ling ting 21 key is definitely the better model.🥰🥰 this is my first lingting, I'm glad I bought it.😍

Hi Maison! Thank you for mentioning this to me. And for being so patient. ❤️ Okay, so the numbers below your Kalimba is actually the number representation of the letters... So C is 1, D is 2, and E is 3.... So on... When you use the tuning app, the numbers beside the letter represents the octave of the key... Which is why in the first C-G they all have 4 below them. So for your E... Just hammer it from the bottom to push it up to E. And it will be in tune. I do plan on making a video to explain this further since it is one of the main concerns of many. ❤️

For this one, i would suggest a longer chain. Since it's the same length for the 17 keys :) The chain is detachable by the way. ❤️

I have a 17 key Kalimba and I love it but there's one problem. One of the tines- the last one, I think e6?- doesn't resonate like the others. It's not a buzz but it's very flat, like, ting instead of tiiing. The note stops before it can really start. I am keeping the Kalimba because I don't foresee using the highest note at the current level I'm at , but I would like to know if there's anything I can do to fix it . I know this is an irrelevant video and I don't mean to hijack it. I just wanted to know if any commenters had advice

Ooooh okay gotcha. Well, see if it sounds good even without one of the note, or... Use 2 kalimbas or a chromatic kalimba. This is one of the limitations of the kalimba. (I wanted to play flight of the bumblebee but it is not possible with a single 17 key 😆)

@@TipsKalimbalimitation is true. It's an Indian song(Tamil) 'munpaniya' which is my mom's fav(mine too). So I was waiting to play this for abv four months but this part is important. Mayb will try to tune other keys for kind of similar sound. Ur videos r so helpful for a beginner with no music exp like me. Keep going 💜👍👏

Hi my friend! (I love your country by the way, especially jalan alor 😍) Oh, i haven't tried Hluru yet, though if ever i think i will go for their flatboard. For the wood, i do know that there is a SLIGHT difference for each that can be noticed if you really listen to it closely :)

High quality? Great Sounding, and Playing instrument. Ooohhhh.... I should of gotten lingting 21 kalimba instead of hluru, that I just preordered. But what I like about hluru 21 keys, is that they had letters engraved on the tinies. But I might willing to buy the lingting as well. Someday. 😂🙈

Soon bibili rin ako ng lingting. Hinihintay ko pa kasi sa musicero warehouse 'yung hollow kalimba nila, although nakabili na ako ng flatboard (telecaster). Naka-add to cart na nga si hluru 17 keys (walnut, ang ganda ng kulay!) datung na lang kulang😂 Lols. Love lots ate robin!🥰🥰

For a beginner? Well if you're on a budget, I'd go for a flatboard, just because the keys are less prone to having tight end keys.
