Maybe you already did some researches on Lingua Ignota but if not, here's some context : Lingua Ignota or Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter is a woman who survived domestic violences. She went through a lot of psychologic, physical and sexual abuse in multiple relationships. She dealt for a very long time with eating disorder, depression and other things. Lingua Ignota is some kind of project, it is a character who takes revenge on everyone who abused of her, you can tell she lived those atrocious things, the way she puts her emotions in each song, it's absolutely incredible and really sad. When it comes to Sinner Get Ready, the storyline is entirely dedicated to one of her abusers, the leader of the band Daughters. His name is Alexis Marshall. Kristin Hayter had a relationship with him during two years, from 2019 to 2021. During those two years, Lingua Ignota was manipulated by this man who cheated on her a lot of times and he was being jalous whenever she was talking to other men. But the biggest issue was that Alexis Marshall is violent and has an addiction to sex. He abused sexually Kristin Hayter quite a lot of times but also mentally : he was rejecting on her every fault that HE commited, and when Lingua wanted to break up with him, he was menacing her that he will commit suicide. And when Kristin Hayter actually tried to commit suicide in 2020, Alexis Marshall was blaming her for doing so and showed her no empathy when she needed it. He is also responsible for her spine surgery because he broke her spine during a sexual abuse. He did NOTHING to help her, so she had to finance her own surgery. The song REPENT NOW, CONFESS NOW is about that. A lot of other things happened but it's all in her testimony on her relationship with Alexis, I found it on genius in case you curious. Also, little fun fact, a lot of the weird instruments you can find on this album were bought in Pennsylvania in antique shops when Lingua moved in with Alexis Marshall. Hope this comment was useful !

and with that being said: the line in REPENT NOW CONFESS NOW saying “he will take your legs, and your will to live” is a reference to the lumbar disc hernia that nearly left her unable to walk, caused by marshall’s horrific assault against her.

I got to see her on the final leg of the tour for lingua ignota, I cried the entire time I have never experienced such a heavy yet cathartic emotional atmosphere. Every Lingua album is a 10 for me and so is the new Revered Kristen Michael Hayter album so I have high hopes for the future for her. She’s one of the greats.

This album is about processing the twin traumas of her having experienced long term domestic r*pe at the hands of her partner. During one such instance he almost permanently paralyzed her due to injuring her spine. The second trauma is obviously having grown up catholic. :p

idk what you mean edit: I mean I don't think that Ben isn't reacting accordingly or that he doesn't know what goes on thematically (the theme of abuse was made public a few months after the albums release; it's not directly apparent that the album is about abuse, I think)

I mean, is he supposed to be all knowing or something? Lmao
