Ah yes, gotta love it when a country puts their name right on the flag 😂. A neat fact about Nicaragua's flag is that it is one of the few national flags that includes the color purple! El Salvador's, the Wiphala of Bolivia (a co-national flag), Spain's, and Dominica's also uses purple! Just like Nicaragua's flag, El Salvador's flag features purple on the rainbow of the coat of arms. The purple on Dominica's flag is on the country's national bird, the Imperial amazon. The purple on Spain's flag is the lion of León. And the Wiphala is a flag that represents some Andean peoples, in Bolivia it is the flag of the Aymara and on the flag, purple represents Andean government and self-determination. On the Maltese flag, the cross on their flag is the George Cross! The reason it's on their flag is because it's an award that was given to Malta by King George VI of the UK in 1942 when Malta was a colony. It was in recognition of its courageousness during World War II! Malta added it to their colonial flag in December 1943, and then when Malta gained its independence in 1964, it was included as part of the then new country's flag!

I wouldn't count the Caribbean as Central America but rather its own distinct region. Cuba has a great flag! It was designed in NYC by exiles Miguel Teurbe Tolón (Venezuelan who fought for Cuba) and Narciso López in 1849, and Miguel's wife sewed the first flag. Red represents the bloodshed of the independence fighters (with the triangle representing liberty, equality, and fraternity), the blue stripes represent the three military departments Cuba used to be divided by, and the white represents the purity of the national movement. The star (representing freedom) and the colors red, white, and blue were originally inspired by the US flag. The Puerto Rican flag was also designed in NYC in the 1890s and was inspired by the Cuban flag. On the Cape Verdean flag, the 10 stars on the flag represent the main islands of the nation which are Santo Antão, São Vicente, Santa Luzia, São Nicolau, Sal, Boa Vista, Maio, Santiago, Fogo, and Brava. The largest island, both in size and population, is Santiago, which hosts the capital, Praia. The blue represents the ocean and the sky. The band of white and red represents the road toward the construction of the nation, and its colors stand for peace (white) and effort (red).
