I’ve watched every single reaction video for this track. FINALLY, someone who fully comprehends what he’s pulling off during that ambidextrous section of the solo. Like, I can’t even wrap my head around how someone does that. You know that video of the lady on the airplane saying “That mfer back there is not real!”? That’s exactly how I feel when I watch that solo. 😂

I love Corey Henry's little nod to Chick Corea (Spain) during his solo.

I’ve seen dozens of reviews to Lingus, and you are the first person who had anything remotely negative to say about anything in this song. Although I disagree with you, you have my respect for saying that the sound of the sax was not to your liking. That’s very refreshing to hear. I have this album and it’s really just phenomenal. The album featuring Lingus is almost 10 years old now. They have won 5 Grammy awards as well. Loved your reaction. Great suggestion.

I see what he means about the sax. It's almost like it has a reeverb set up to sound like it's in a large bathroom.

I absolutely love this song, but I agree about the sound of the sax; it really grates on my eardrums. Although I've come to appreciate it more over time; and seeing this reaction, I'm starting to look at it as a discussion between someone unreasonable (the dissonant sax) and someone more reasonable (the nicer sounding trumpet).

I may be wrong but being a sax and a guitar player it sounds like there is a chorus pedal on the sax and I love that sound.

I knew you would like it! Another cool fact - the drummer (Larnell Lewis) is a last minute replacement for their previous drummer. He actually learned the songs on the flight over to play that show. You can see how the other band members are amazed at his performance.

13:50 yeah, that was my reaction too. OCTAVES OF IDENTICAL PHRASES. WITH OPPOSITE FINGERINGS. ON TWO DIFFERENT KEYBOARDS. WAT.

I know I'm a bit late to seeing this reaction, but I thought I'd explain a couple of things you mentioned.... First the sax and trumpet are using their own effects pedals. The trumpets wahwah is an effect that is being controlled with an expression pedal. The sax sound is going through a hard plate reverb with a delay. That effect on the sax isn't my favorite with, but it's actually grown on me over time. But, the big one to explain: the piano with the kick drum... It's actually a keyboard being triggered by the kick drum. So the drummer (the amazing Larnell Lewis) literally has to play that kick pattern all the way through the rest of the song because the piano pattern is the root notes for the harmonic structure of the song.

IMHO, the greatest improvised solo of all time! The communication between Larnell and Corey is on another level of reality. Out of body, spiritual kind of communication there….no thinking, pure in the moment

This is my first video of yours I've seen and you're already in my top 3 channels. Easy top 1 reaction channel. Someone who actually knows how to react instead of just listen. Love you man! Thanks for making my life better! Keep being genuine and keep being yourself! The talk box thing or whatever it's called is mostly for the track called Sleeper. "We Like It Here" is the album. At around 14:00 his solo sounds like it could be in a Mariokart course. Ok a little about this band, the bass players name is Michael League. He's the founder, and writes and produces most of it. Larnell Lewis is on drumset. He's my favorite drummer ever, tied with Neil Peart from Rush. One of the keyboard players plays my favorite trumpet solo ever in their track call Shofukan. They're all so multitalented and freaking wizards at their instruments. Every time I listen to Cory Henry's keyboard solo, I get filled with so much adrenaline it feels like it's me playing, of course I'll never be that good, but the adrenaline is so much

Can you believe this band was started by cowboys?? Yep...Texas! They are a jazz-fusion band and, similarly to Steely Dan, have had MANY members through their years (from Wikipedia) performing with Erykah Badu, Marcus Miller, Justin Timberlake, Stanley Clarke, Kirk Franklin, Ari Hoenig, Roy Hargrove, David Crosby, Michael McDonald, Snoop Dogg, The 1975 and many other artists. Oh, and they've won several Grammys. Humans are capable of the kick/piano rhythm, but so are midi triggers. Rather eclectic and VERY talented! Yeah...they're having fun! So did I!! Thanks!

Interesting comment on the sax solo, I never noticed but his stance is different in that section to what he normally does. He is offset from the mike on it while during the brass sections he is straight on the mike. A choice he made then was what it seems.

The way Cory Henry builds the solo up from those show chords, building up the second synth sound, speeding up, then bringing in the second keyboard, and building into the super frantic ending part... Brilliantly done. This song will be influencing musicians for a long time to come.

Good song, I know you're gonna listen to a lot more. To hear the talkbox (Shaun Martin) the song to do is Sleeper. I think Shaun's feel for the hosepipe rivals Cory's chops in this.

I'm pretty sure the section of the sax + trumpet trading eights and using FX like this is an homage to the Brecker Brothers.

I was thinking that the sax was getting picked up by multiple mics each with their own fx chains. What it sounded like to me. Man I know all about wanting a physical keyboard even when there are several decent VSTs. I want one of those electric Hohner clavs with a whammy bar, and I want it bad. I want to smell it. You can't smell a VST. It's sort of my white whale.

I like your general review, but INMHO you're so wrong about the sax! Pretty certain the wagh is on one of the guitars. BTW the drummer, Larnell Lewis, was a late sub and learnt the drum part on the plane to Europe.

Well, you're not a brass guy, that's for sure, lol...but I enjoyed your reaction and expertise. Just for comparison's sake, I'd be happy if it was ALL brass, and of course Cory and Larnel added-in, haha. When I first heard this I was stunned. And every time I hear it now I'm stunned...but less so and always find something else to parse, just f*cking great musicianship around the board.
