You, sir, are a life saver. I had totally forgotten spray adhesives existed and was blanking on how to get the effect I was looking for this really changed how I line things for the better! Thank you so much for posting this tutorial, I hope things are going great for you!

The fabric should always be folded over and then sew on to the leather, just a suggestion, as with constant bending the edgekote cracks and comes off and the fabric pulls away from the leather. To make it last forever glue down with Masters, fold under the side seam, then sew it to the leather, then edgekote.

Nice looking passport wallet. I was thinking of doing the same with a long wallet. Using a liner like that really gives it a nice look. Cheers from Canada.

Try canvas prints with a resolene waterproof coating, printed canvas with a PVC clear glue and water coating or silicon clear caulk and acetone to thin the caulk, and spray paint it on the fabric to protect and waterproof it. You can make your own beautiful canvas like LV if you lightly stretch the canvas, print or paint it or order a preprinted print online of your design, coat it with several thin coats of thinned clear silicon caulk, and after it dries take it off the stretchers. You'll have a pebbled effect on the canvas like Louis Vuitton that is quite durable. You can make custom wallets, album covers, man totes, girl bags, whatever.

That is an awesome tip. I have been wanting to make my own material similar to LV and was wondering the best way to go about it, I'll give it a try. Thank you.

Great job! Thanks for the tips. I am new to leather, but I have sewn with textiles most of my life. I like lining leather accessories with fabric. But I am having a hard time finding the right adhesive. For lighter color and weight (silks, chiffon, satin) even clear glue leaves a bit of a stain, like a water mark.

I hear you. I lined a notebook cover in yellow bandana and it took on the tan of the leather behind it. I want to try maybe white first then yellow

When I’ve had a rough finish after edge coating, I add another coat of Gum Trag and use my electric burnisher on it. It smooths out the edge coat beautifully.

Yes. I switched from 77 to the stronger, but later switched to the CRC offering found at Harbor Freight. I mostly use iron on adhesive and a heat press now. I have advanced quite a lot since filming this!

Awesome job! It looks great! I am new to leather working, I was wondering how long do you need to wait for your glue to tack up? How can you fix your fabric from wrinkling on the crease or high stress areas? I’m struggling to get my fabric to lay and stay flat on those crease lines. Thanks in advance and I look forward to more of your videos!
@pyrosci3 жыл бұрын
Tacking up should be just after there’s no wetness left, if that makes sense. Getting the fabric perfect and flexible areas it’s tough. As far as securing it, the veneer rollerIs a handy tool

Curious if there was an advantage or disadvantage for using a smaller piece of fabric where it just covers the opening vs lining the entire wallet length
@pyrosci Жыл бұрын
In theory contact cement would hold regardless of seam. Lately when I line wallets, I skive down the edged and glue anyway so all material edges are hidden. Lining the whole thing first seems to be the path of least resistance.

Hello! Well, it's been almost two years since you uploaded this video. Are you still using this same spray adhesive and if so, are you using 90 or 77? I'd like to know either way and the reasons, if you have time and don't mind answering. Any observations would be great, such as whether or not it stained or discolored over time, if everything is still holding together, and so on. Thanks in advance, and thanks for these videos!!

I use 77 for lining. Its good enough adhesive wise and has a wider spray vs 90s more direct shot

I've found the cheap harbor freight spray adhesive to work best for this. I like the spray pattern. Doest seep thru. And it's as strong as it needs to be. 3m 77 is my second choice. 3m 90 will work but is def wrong for this as he found out

How long did you let the glue sit and tack up ?, and which glue is better the 77 or the 90 ?
@pyrosci4 жыл бұрын
These adhesives tack in a very short amount of time. I just go be touch. When its tacky to the touch you can join them. As far as one being better, 77 tip is a mist style where 90 is more of a wide stream. 77 is good enough for leather/fabric. 90 is stronger. Think adding emblems and trim to cars strong. Because of the spray pattern, I use 77 now.
