I was thinking about it. I know the hero of time has a very sad story, but has anybody thought about the Zelda that stayed in the adult timeline? She lost her father, was forced to run away from her home, had to disguise herself for seven years while watching her kingdom suffering because of her plan that allowed Ganondorf to enter the sacred realm. No wonder she is so full of guilt. She lost Impa and she couldn't bear knowing that Link lost his childhood because of her so she sent him back in time in order to repair her mistake. She will never see Link ever again. She could have used the ocarina to go back herself in time as well, but probably knew she couldn't erase the existence of this timeline so she stayed because the kingdom needed a leader in order to recover. But she will be alone. Knowing the intro of Wind Waker, you know she made sure Link's actions would be known through history. She is very selfless, worthy of the triforce of wisdom, but this is very sad. Like you said, Deebee, very important to take care of our own happiness and not just other's. Thank you for such an amazing reaction!

In the games, Link has remained stoic and calm so we could never really get a sense for how he's feeling. You might get some expressive facial reactions, like in Windwaker, but they never really showcased his inner turmoil. This moment with Saria is honestly what I've wished Nintendo would have done for Link in one of the LoZ games. Hats off to the crew for the animation and the music, it all blends together seamlessly.
@Saiyan0X2 жыл бұрын
I don't think Nintendo shows that side of Link because at that time Nintendo considers Link to be your 'Avatar', and it would be strange to give him emotional troubles to someone Nintendo wants you to proyect yourself into. That is why they rarely make Link a character: he is supposed to be you, while still identify as Link. That is why you can give him a name. It does remove opportunities for more developement, by sacrificing Link's personality.
@rubeabedin95522 жыл бұрын
@@Saiyan0X Yeah, I understand that aspect. But now with BOTW they had characters call him Link, instead of a generic word like "you" or "hero". This means that he is no longer just an "Avatar", he is an actual character now. This should free him up for some much needed characterization, which I doubt Nintendo will go through with but it's nice to dream.
@rkr98612 жыл бұрын
The closest thing is in Zelda's diary in BOTW. Transcript of page 5 reads: Bit by bit, I've gotten Link to open up to me. It turns out he's quite a glutton. He can't resist a delicious meal! When I finally got around to asking why he's so quiet all the time, I could tell it was difficult for him to say. But he did. With so much at stake, and so many eyes upon him, he feels it necessary to stay strong and to silently bear any burden. A feeling I know all too well... For him, it has caused him to stop outwardly expressing his thoughts and feelings. I always believed him to be simply a gifted person who had never faced a day of hardship. How wrong I was... Everyone has struggles that go unseen by the world... I was so absorbed with my own problems, I failed to see his. I wish to talk with him more and to see what lies beneath those calm waters, to hear him speak freely and openly... And perhaps I, too, will be able to bare my soul to him and share the demons that have plagued me all these years

The image of Link sitting on the log back-to-back from Saria, limply holding the Ocarina he gave her in his hand, his hair hiding his face, his shoulders slouched forward, the text box asking "Are you okay" while the cursor bounces between two empty answers, because he 'can't' admit that he isn't... I've watched this scene over a dozen times and it always manages to cut me down. It's a masterful, thesis-worthy combination of storyboarding, writing, music and pacing, and sends an absurdly powerful message about the burdens we carry in silence.

He wasn't conscious during his time in the Sacred Realm, he was a 9 year old in the body of a 16 year old. When Zelda sent him back, he returned to his 9 year old body. @@tomrees82 yes, but it doesn't change the fact that link is mentally older than he is physically since he still has all of his memories. He may have slept for 7 years, but regardless he most likely still had some "internal" changes when he woke up and even if not, i guess he "matured" throughout his journey to the point where he was able to put up with all this shit which is apparently 16 or 17, since that was the age the sages deemed him worthy to continue his journey. Okay, this was the hardest I have ever cried in my life. I broke down sobbing when Link starting crying and had to retreat somewhere quiet so I didn't wake my family. I have never related to someone more in my life than now. Holy moly! Like this link, I am and have always been a people pleaser. I have had it hammered into my mind since I was little that I have to force down and ignore what I want to make the people around me happy. It is selfish of me to to think about what I want and what is best for myself. I have no one to talk to about my feelings. I love my family, but I can't tell any of them how I feel. My sister, though I love her to death, wouldn't understand. My father is a drinker who used to be abusive to my mom, and though I still love him, I can't talk to him either or he will find a way to blame my mother. I love my mother, but she has to have everything done her way and no way else. She can be so controlling sometimes and never wants to hear what I have to say when I try to open up about my feelings. She says it stresses her out and I am forced once again to not talk about my feelings to her. I am not good with words or verbalizing my feelings and I have trouble getting the words out. The only other person I could talk to, my boyfriend, abandoned me, so now I'm all alone. The Legend of Zelda has been my favorite video game franchise since I was a kid and man, seeing Link like this, a character I have looked up to for so long, and seeing so much of myself in him broke me. The way he wasn't saying what he really wanted to say reminded me so much of myself. He broke down crying the exact same time as I did. Dee, I have recently been having suicidal thoughts. Not too major, but to the point where I just don't want to be here on Earth anymore. I never felt like I belonged here, and my household and this planet feels like a prison and I am trapped. I have nobody to talk to in real life, but I love watching your videos. There is something so comforting and big brotherly like about you and I felt like God was speaking to me through Majorlink and you when you were talking about suicidal people and said talk to somebody.

Seeing Ocarina of Time and Fierce Diety Link costumes in Breath of the Wild made me want to see a BOTW style remake of the 2 N64 Zeldas and then seeing A Hero's Purpose really made me think of an Ocarina of Time trilogy like how Nintendo basically made BOTW into a trilogy with the sequel coming up next year and Age of Calamity released last year. I forgot how fucked up the Hero of Time's life seems to have ended leading him to becoming the Hero's Shade, and nobody knows if Link reunited with Navi. There's generally a multitude of mysteries in Zelda games where the developers purposefully leave it to interpretation, but Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask probably had the most of them. I do hope these videos have Nintendo seriously considering a 3rd Hero of Time game to tie up some loose ends.

It just shows how major of an event that the events of OoT are for the Legend of Zelda's mythos and what the Hero of Time's role and personal experience for better of for worse. if you think you think about it all 3 diverged timelines had left with Link and to some extent both Zelda and Hyrule with some sort of tragic outcome (though the child timeline was the least tragic of the 3)and the influence it leaves with some of the later titles in the franchise (i.e. Windwaker and Twilight Princess). And I think that's part of the reason OoT is such a precious memory/game (amongst many other good reasons) for many Zelda fans out there.

I think you can even go further back as well with the events of Skyward Sword (and to some extent, OoT), in which the first chronological incarnation of Zelda , who herself is the reincarnation of Hylia, is dealing with Demise, who is Proto-origin of Ganon/Ganondorf. and I think everyone who played the game remembers the last thing Demise says to Link and Zelda (which mirrors what Ganondorf says to Oot's Link and Zelda in his last scene) .

This series makes me want DeeBeeGeek to do more Zelda fan content. Major Link’s works are top tier as always. I also like Undying Nephalim’s Hyrule Wars and Hyrule Conquest story cutscenes for his fan-game. The fan made Hero of Time and Sage of Darkness live action movies are great as well. There’s so much!

React to his other animations. He's redone various scenes from OoT, and the final scene of MM and TP.

While this isn't necessarily true, OoT Link should be mentally older than his age would suggest. When he pulled the Master Sword he didn't time travel foward he was effectively in a coma. This means his brain did physically mature (puberty and stuff) over those 7 years, even if he lacks life experience. Zelda then sends him back in time from that point. Dude had to effectively fo through 14 years of puberty (even if he did experience half of it). Imagine how much that would suck.

Links brain aging 7 years while he was in a coma doesn't mean that he matured or got mentally older. He went from his 9 year old body into a 16 year old body & then back into his 9 year old body again.

@@tomrees82 I agree with that in the sense that Link waking up in an adult body doesn't necessarily mean that he mentally matured along with his body (though technically we don't know for sure if the sages/master sword are capable of allowing link to emotionally and mentally mature along with his body, magic always complicates things in that regard). That being said, what Link will experience in his adult form will force him to "mature" as he goes about his role in saving Hyrule, which I think most would agree to some extent that were conditions would be traumatic for some one his age. You also have to factor in the fact that Link is currently within the first 2 decades of his life (regardless of which form you want to argue for) which is a critical period in his growth period. Now you have to consider the fact that in this sensitive period of his life, he has to go about being the Hero of Time which will have a defining effect on his psyche for the rest of his life for better or for worse. Plus god know how it feels to switch back and for between 2 bodies that are in 2 very different stages of development. Biologically, a 16 year old body is completely form a body of a 9 year old (particularly when it comes to hormones) it's a little mind boggling to me and lord know what Link was feeling while he was adapting to his new body. All in all, while the act of link being transferred to an older body doesn't necessarily make him 7 years older, the consequences of the act will definitely have an impact of his overall maturation as an individual.

this is insanely cool, but we all know who the Hero's Shade is and how this ends 🙁
