Link's insistence on doing things together as a family really clicked for me when he said "I didn't have a family, I had a mom" - I knew his background but I'd never thought of it like that. I can see why it means so much to him.

I love how Rhett and Link are so different yet compliment each other perfectly. We could all learn a lot from them. How many times have we given up on relationships because the other person is too different from us? But look at these two guys, they are almost polar opposites but they have been friends their entire lives. It’s just a really beautiful thing. Our world needs more of it.

I feel like they might underestimate how much of a podcast we can listen to. For me personally I binge these podcasts while I draw or do chores. I listen to hours a day of podcast material to help me not feel bored (music for so long gives me headaches so I very much prefer podcasts). Maybe this is unusual though?
@angelayoung87284 жыл бұрын
I do the same, and podcasts don't give me headaches like music long term. I get it 👌 They probably ultimately want to keep the same time frame episodes, but I'd personally be down with 2 hour episodes!

Yea, it's strange hearing some podcasts call for time. Perhaps it's studio space time (Bad Science), them only being able to afford so much air. But if it's these guys just fleshing things out in their OWN studio, it's strange that the catch phrase is "for a long time" when you compare it Joe Rogan's 3 hour long pod casts.

It's so funny that Rhett cannot understand or accept Link's thorough explanation of how he's not competitive. I've been the Link in similar situations, either about casual things, like games, or when it comes to career oriented experiences. Even if I were up for a promotion, I didn't see it as competing with the other people who were interviewing for the position. I would see it as doing my best, doing the best that I can. Not as trying to be better than the others. And competitive people have a very difficult time understanding that mentality.
@Charlie-cv4un4 жыл бұрын
where they talk about Link being competitive, I feel like Link is actually the competitive type of guy he isn't trying to be. There are COUNTLESS times almost every show where Link hesitates to give Rhett the right answer because he knows it means he will get a lead. In those specific examples Rhett isn't so much trying to hold back giving him the right answer, but Link is always like are you right? are you sure? It is so funny. In a general sense Rhett is still very competitive arguably more competitive, or maybe he just finds more ways to show it than Link. and part of me feels like Link is associating being competitive with a bad thing, like it is wrong to be competitive. He takes a lot of pride in molding Rhett's face in the most aggressive ways in the reverse challenge and Rhett just tries to let him do his thing. Nonetheless, I hope their talk didn't affect their friendship. They definitely had a weird vibe at the end (for obvious reasons) and they mentioned how it's good they don't have to film another which makes me sad like they might not enjoy making these episodes as much (or maybe it was just the energy in the room) Still love these guys, great episode. I enjoyed this episode a lot. Link resents being told that he's competitive. For the most part, I don't sense a lot of competitiveness in him, but there are times I CAN see it in him. I agree with Rhett that it highly depends on the circumstances. It doesn't happen very often. As a competitive person myself, I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with HEALTHY competition. It drives me to be better when I get into a work out routine, etc. Whether I'm competing against myself or someone else. Games... I want to win. I hate cheaters. I will turn on someone if I catch them cheating. I want to win or lose with honour. Normally (except for 'The Lost Years' series), I wait for Sunday, because I want to see video. (I want to actually watch that series at some point.) Y'all have me on a cliffhanger so I'll have to listen tomorrow.

Makes me laugh. I feel for Link, its like Rhett sees why he think hes competitive because hes a competitive person looking at cues but Link is not competitive, hes giving into the experience to not be a debbie downer but at the end of the day he doesn't care, he cares that people enjoy themselves and he didnt let anyone down with a bad experience by being a debbie downer. It happens in convos too, what you say is misinterpreted by someone only because they don't see how it could be what you intended it to be because by nature they're different.

I'm not married - very single at 34. I say this to say that Link's desire for family time is very attractive. Not because I'm hitting on Link with him being married, but because I didn't have that growing up. I want this trait in whoever I end up with. I adore my dad. He's a wonderful person. However, he's not one for wanting family outings. He won't sit for a movie unless it's the odd Disney or Pixar one - once or twice a year. (My family loves Disney and Pixar.) He loves Christmas movies. Christmas is the only time of year he'll consistently sit and watch something en famille (as the French say). Growing up, my mother and I would play board games, but he would never join in. Link's children will look back and appreciate it once they're out of the self absorbed teenage years. PS - My dad was out today in a forest blazing a trail so my mother and I could use it for exercising in - walks.

There were some German dudes trying to get us to play a certain game, and Dad's friend was like "you should try this!" So we sat down with the guys and played their game. Wasn't really my thing, but it was definitely one of those "yeah, good enough, and with the right crowd this is a great way to spend time". Catan. And I'm pretty sure those were the creators. Same year, we bumped into Steve Jackson, Munchkin game creator. Munchkin is my family game night, y'all. But the first time I brought my own kids the Origins with me, I wandered all the stalls solo for awhile and caught up with my dad, my older son sitting in his lap, playing Catan.

Having not heard the second half of the conversation, I'd say (perhaps projecting) that Rhett is more concerned with the almost-compulsive accumulation of knowledge and skill on various subjects then enjoys displaying that knowledge and skill to others (as an entertainer) more than being truly COMPETITIVE in the sense of wanting to beat others at something. But again I'm probably projecting, and I'm a 5 on the Enneagram so I'm the same way for similar but slightly different reasons.

thanks for spelling out "Enneagram" i can finally look it up for myself!

Without knowing Rhetts true disposition, it might seem to be projecting. But that part doesn’t really matter. You told the community a bit about yourself that you felt Ike sharing, and that’s great. There’s nothing to gain in comparing His thoughts to your own, as it’s likely we’ll never know the scope of either, BUT! It is genuinely interesting and enlightening to learn something about a fellow mythical beast. I think.....I hope that’s not intrusive. I offer this opinion knowing full well it wasn’t necessarily needed OR requested. Just thought I’d say bravo:) Gotta hear that second half of the conversation:)
@HelloTardis4 жыл бұрын
Btw. If I was offering my own guess, it would be the same I had with my good friend who reminds me of Rhett. The guess would be that their conversation ends up with RHETT-concluding that it’s okay to be less “competitive” and “intense” with his best friend perhaps when he feels he’s not being intentionally standoffish. And LINK-Might conclude that he could stand to accept his own more “competitive” aspects, all while addressing (what may be perceived as) his over-Passiveness” to his best friend. This is 100% me Projecting btw!!! I had a similar emotional conversation with my Best friend about the little ways we approached each other, in conversation and attitude. The point we discovered was that we both had areas we could take stock of, adjust, or improve upon. So while I’m projecting/speculating too, I just hope they come to a happy conclusion as real friends:) My days wouldn’t be as Bright without Rhett and Link:)

Being competitive and enjoying the game are two different things! I am a big time boardgamer, and I am not competitive. Couldn't. Care. Less. about winning/losing. I have learned if I don't play to win, gamers don't want to play with me... so I play to win. But if I'm playing?? I've already won. My enthusiasm is often misinterpreted as competitiveness... I've learned to let it go. Think what you will... just play with me!! As a note, I was also an only child with a hard working (non-gamer) mom. #earbiscuits Engagement and competitiveness are waaaayyyy two different things!!

I have something you might enjoy. Sumo! Japanese Grand Sumo. They have the bouts on KZbin. Search Jason Sumo. You should get to Jason's channel. He has the top division (makuuchi) bouts. The tournament lasts for 15 days.

This is definitely one of my favorite Biscuits. I was agreeing and laughing most of the time. So much fun.

I became not very competitive at a young age because I used to always, always lose at whatever board game or card game I played. Especially against my sister! So I come into every game with an "I'm just gonna have fun and screw winning" attitude, just cause being sour about losing ruined the fun for me when I was a kid.

I haven't been this excited for a Ear Biscuits follow-up since The Lost Years.

I am very excited to hear their conversation, I hope all is well and they are not mad at each other or anything and that it was just a great growing experience!

I relate to Link about not being competitive and just embracing the fun of the competitive atmosphere, because if I lose I don't care, it's about the journey and the fun being had. Truly competitive people will be upset when they lose

Last summer we played catch phrase almost every night with my grandparents, and it was so fun, sometimes when giving clues the funniest things would happen and we would just sit at the table and laugh for 5 straight minutes before starting the next round.

Same Rhett. I like killing flies and mosquitoes and talk down with them like you do. Do I need a therapist? 😂😂

Every person in the world with the exception of like 8 people have a strong aggressive aspect of their psyche, called the shadow by some psychoanalysts. It's what likes killing and hurting things, and people consciously channel that to things like bugs. Don't worry about it, just make sure that never makes it to people

If you like among us/mafia, the board game version of it is The Donner Dinner Party Game. It’s not for the faint of heart. Tables haven’t been flipped over it there’s a lot of yelling😂 so far I agree that Link isn’t really as competitive in the traditional sense and I understand his defense. I ALSO see Rhett’s argument that Link is competitive, it’s just in a more abstract way

I am really happy that Link is getting into boardgames. Boardgames have evolved so much over the decades and really good. Hope they play some board games on the Rhett & Link channel.

I wish we could have one episode of Ear biscuits from when they were in their 30's. It would be very interesting to compare how much they changed. It feels like they are more themselves on Ear biscuits.

The idea that Link is not as competitive as Rhett seems to be in direct conflict with the many instances of Link raging and pouting either during or after a game he lost to Rhett. I guess it depends on how you define "competitive" because, whatever the motivation is, Link definitely doesn't respond well to losing, at least to Rhett.
@Laura-sp4td4 жыл бұрын
Yes but his motivation is more avoiding the punishment of there is one rather than winning. And also it just wouldn't be that fun to watch if every time he was like oh okay I lose and seemed disinterested
@officialgoogleyoutube4 жыл бұрын
@@Laura-sp4td Nonono, I'm not complaining about it. Of course it's more fun to watch people be invested in the game. I'm not sure that it's just about the punishment. Think about all the times he got riled up during those international taste tests. I checked the "I FREAKIN WAS GONNA SAY CHINA!" episode and there was no punishment.

When link said "grinder" and then did the 👌 to his mouth, i was POSITIVE he was talking about a weed grinder. When he was referring to his mouth guard I was like "oh yeah, that makes sense that Link would refer to in a way that makes it sound like drug paraphernalia"

That is a great idea for a TV show just having it to where you could be able to interact with all the characters. Like rhett said give them an extra hard poke and they feel it

Awww I feel sad for Link. Coming from a young person at home with parents, it’s not that we don’t like you, we just don’t want to do things. And the more you try to force it, the less we want to do anything. You gotta give us space. Please don’t take it personally! I’m sure your children love you.
