Reminds me of bands like the Cramps, Jon Spenser Blues Explosion and all kinds of gritty, fun bands from the 80s and 90s that ripped off Link Ray with impunity. Even bands like the Sex Pistols and Iggy Pop owe him a lot. Good times! I miss that in-your-face-ness and sheer energy level in modern music. There's a lot of great stuff out now. But it comes from a different place.

@@recordguy4321 "concert toms" were all the rave back then. I think it may have been easier to mic them inside the drum to get more separation. These were the days before digital gates.

@Bradwick1
@Bradwick1 2 жыл бұрын
@@recordguy4321 Thats awesome! I have a set of Mod Orange 1965 Ludwigs. Unfortunately missing the floor tom. Gates are used to cut off the attack of individual drums so the sound doesn't bleed over into the other mics as much. The gate for each mic has a threshold that keeps the signal off until the drum is hit. The effect is like you hear on Phil Collins Dont care Anymore. In the 70s, and this is speculation, taking the bottom head off would allow the mic inside the drum which would isolate it from the rest of the kit so it could be balanced in the PA easier and have less bleed through from the other drum mics. Robert Gordon would have been great to see live. So many greats are gone and few can fill their shoes.
