@joshuaingobo15592 жыл бұрын
In my headcanon, to fix the 30th/31st-century timeline in the main DC universe, I would let Iris West be born in the year 2945, in which her biological parents (the Russels) send her back in time (with John Fox’s help) to the year 1963 so that she can be raised by the Wests (Prof. Ira William West, who is a lot like his pre-Flashpoint version and not like his New 52 version, and his wife). Then, 29 years later in the year 1992, Iris would be transported to the year 2965, in which she and her husband Barry Allen would spend the next three years (between 2965 and 2968) interacting with her parents before she was killed by the Reverse-Flash in the year 1995 and was brought back in the year 2968. After she was resurrected in the year 2968, she would spend the next two years (between 2968 and 2970) helping Barry win his trial (which lasts from 1996 to 1997), in which they would spend the next month (in the year 2970) spending time with each other, before Barry would return to the year 1997 to participate and sacrifice himself in the first Crisis. Nine months later, in the year 2971, Iris would give birth to the Tornado Twins (Don and Dawn Allen). Ten years after that, in the year 2981, the Original Legion of Super-Heroes would make their public debut, after they were inspired by the heroes of the 20th/21st century, starting with Clark Kent’s adventures as the first Superboy and the first Superman in the pre-Crisis Earth-One continuity (or the JSA and JLA and other modern-day heroes in the New Earth/ Prime Earth continuity). Five years after the Original Legion’s formation, in the year 2986, the Tornado Twins would meet the Original Legion. In the year 2992, the Original Legion would participate in the first Crisis along with all other superheroes of the modern day to defeat the Anti-Monitor. After the first Crisis, between 2992 and 3000, Don Allen would eventually marry Meloni Thawne; and Dawn Allen would eventually marry Jeven Ognats. In the year 3000, They would have Bart Allen and Jenni Ognats before fleeing from Earth-One (or New Earth/ Prime Earth) to Earth-247 (Reboot Legion’s Earth) to protect themselves from the Reverse-Flash shortly before they were killed by Dominators that were sent by Thaddeus Thawne, who followed them to Earth-247 and shortly became President of the United Planets two years before the Reboot Legion made their debut. From 3000 to 3002, Bart and Jenni would age into teens, causing Iris (who traveled to Earth-247 alongside her biological parents) to send Bart back to the year 2003 (in which Bart is aged to 14 years old) to halt his aging and control his speed; while Jenni would be aged to 15 years old, unlock and control her powers, and join the Reboot Legion in the year 3002. Jenni would spend the next eight years (from 3002 to 3010) with the Reboot Legion before Bart and the first generation Young Titans (a combination of Young Justice and Titans, in which Young Justice would be trained by the Titans) arrive from the year 2010 to aid her help to fight the Fatal 500. Jenni would spend the next three years (from 3010 to 3013) being stuck between dimensions along with the Reboot Legion before being summoned by the Original Legion to defeat the Time Trapper alongside the Threeboot Legion of Earth-Prime, eventually learning her true origins. Between 3013 and 3022, Jenni would later travel back to the modern day (between 2013 and 2022) to meet up with her cousin Bart (who became Earth-One’s third/New Earth’s fourth Flash) and team up with the modern age superheroes and the Flash Family; all while training the next generation of Legionnaires in the 31st century. All of this would mean that by Dark Crisis in the year 2022 (or 3022), Barry and Iris would be 59 years old in the year 2022 (and Iris would be 86 years old in the year 3022), the Tornado Twins and their spouses would be 51 years old in the year 3022, Bart would be 33 years old in the year 2022 (or 34 years old in the year 3022), and Jenni would be 35 years old in the year 3022 (or 33 years old in the year 2022). This would mean that the Original Legion would be active for 41 years, while the Reboot Legion would be active for 20 years all in the 30th/31st-century timeline in the main DC universe.

The key here is they stuck pretty close to the original Legion origin, but added in some closer to reality politics and corporate stuff. They didn't change the characterizations much, so they seemed like the same people. The name changes were already in place from the Batch SW6/"Clone" Legion to get rid of there being so many Boy/Girl/Lad/Lass names. XS was a personal favorite. I love the whole Flash extended family and she was a welcome part of it. For those who don't want to do the research: Many years ago the Legion met the Tornado Twins in a single issue of their comic. They were supposedly descendants of Barry Allen temporarily given super speed as part of a holiday honoring The Flash. Years later, when The Flash series ended, Barry ended up moving the 30th century to be with Iris who wasn't as dead as previously thought (it's complicated). Turns out the Tornado Twins were their kids. Barry "died" in Crisis on Infinite Earths shortly thereafter. The Tornado Twins, Dawn and Don Allen, married and each had a child. Don is the father of Bart Allen aka Impulse/Kid Flash. Dawn is the mother of Jenni Ognatz aka XS.
@joshuaingobo15592 жыл бұрын
I’m which the Tornado Twins met the Original Legion in 2968 (or 964 years after Dark Crisis), before it was revealed that Iris was born in the year 2945 and spent nine years in real time (from 2970 to 2979) meeting her biological parents alongside Barry Allen. After her death in 1979 (or 27 years before Dark Crisis), she would spend six years in real time (from 2979 to 2985) living in the 30th century, before Barry from 1985 (or 25 years before Dark Crisis) would see Iris and would spend a month being with each other before his death. After Barry’s death during the first Crisis, Iris would realize that she’s pregnant with twins, and she decided to use the Cosmic Treadmill to go further back into the 30th century (around the year 2953) to have the twins, since she saw her kids being grown adults with super speed. The twins would be born in 2953 (or 949 years after Dark Crisis), and they would meet the Original Legion in 2968 (or 964 years after Dark Crisis), fall in love and marry their significant others (Don Allen marrying Meloni Thawne, a 30th century descendant of the Reverse-Flash and a distant relative of Barry Allen (because Barry has a secret twin brother who is Eobard Thawne’s ancestor, making Barry Eobard’s and Meloni’s ancestral uncle), and Dawn Allen marrying Jeven Ognats, and have Bart Allen (aka Impulse/Kid Flash/Flash) and Jenni Ognats (aka XS) in 2993 (or 978 years after Dark Crisis). After Bart and Jenni were born, they and their parents would travel from Earth-One (or New Earth/Prime Earth) to Earth-247 (the Reboot Legion’s earth) to escape from the time-traveling Reverse-Flash (from between his resurrection in Blackest Night and his appearance in Flash: Rebirth in 2009, or nine years before Dark Crisis). For the next two years, Bart and Jenni’s powers would manifest, causing them to age into being teenagers. This would lead to Iris, who arrived to Earth-247 with her parents to sent herself and Bart to 1994 (or 19 years before Dark Crisis) to get Wally’s help to make sure that Bart’s powers and age are stabilized, while Jenni’s age would be stabilized and her speed would manifest, causing her to join the Reboot Legion in 2995 (or 980 years after Dark Crisis).

Prior to Post Crisis, Legion Of Superheroes was not only one of DC's bestselling titles in the 70s and 80s, but was one of the few DC titles to hold strong against the dominance of MARVEL even outselling issues of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. So yeah, the aftermath of COIE as well as Levits refusing to remove change the Superboy aspects of the book in order to fit within Superman's Post Crisis backstory really screwed over this book's saleswise. You think the Teen Titans had it bad during the New52, that's nothing compared to what the Legion went through, at least the Titans are still somewhat relevant to current comic readers.

I've always had a soft spot for the Legion of Super-Heroes. I started reading during the Paul Levitz/Keith Giffen run in the early 80s, and was hooked. And around the same time, DC turned Adventure Comics into a digest-sized reprint book, and they made a point of putting at least two classic Legion stories in every issue, so it was easy to catch up on the group's history. (And the Levitz/Giffen run also introduced probably one of the best interactive easter eggs in comic books, Interlac. They created a simple cypher, and plastered every sign and notice in the background with it. When you crack the code, you get a bunch of fun little background gags. It's easy to find the code online nowadays, but back in the 80s, it was like stumbling on some arcane secret if you figured it out.) And it's too bad you're not much of a Legion fan. With all the reboots and continuity shifts, it's almost tailor-made for one of your month-long retrospectives.

Wow, someone else who remembers the Adventure Comics digest reprints! To anyone wondering, the clone saga clone never came to be for 4 reasons. 1. They could get sued by Marvel for stealing the idea. The idea of clones isn't unique but the way Marvel went about it which they were cloning is. 2. The polarising reception was seen as too great a risk for a book whose sales were already declining. 3. The creative team hating the idea and 4. It would have come out mid-1994. By 1994, the Speculator Boom was collapsing and thus such gimmicks that rely on impulse buys were seen as useless and dated. DC saw the writing on the wall and almost immediately abandoned such gimmicks which is part of the reason they survived whereas Marvel filed for bankruptcy.

When it comes to the Legion of Superheroes, I'm mostly only familiar with the Legion of Super-Heroes Cartoon, the JLA episode "Far From Home", the direct-to-DVD movie Justice League vs. the Fatal Five (on a side note, Green Lantern powers have always been a concept of personal interest, similar to the Speed Force and between that film and DC Super-Hero Girls, Jessica had quickly become a personal favorite, even if in both she's technically secretly Power Ring, chosen by the Ring of Volthoom at some point after Earth-Three Hal Jordan died (I'm sure this origin is different or won't be brought up in DCSHG) and not actually a Green Lantern) and Braniac 5's appearance on Supergirl

7:35 XENOMORPH! Wait, is this the timeline where Bruce failed to eradicate them all in South America? Or at least one got away, imprinted on other DC aliens, then those offspring gained intelligence before becoming their own peaceful civilization? This is the DC Universe, you can't tell me that couldn't happen here! Also, is it weird I'd totally read that comic?

Or what, you can only read few thoughts? If so, why were you busy reading these two guys instead of the assassins learn where they might escape to. 13:04 Can't tell if it's just the shaow, or is Supes supposed to have that 90's mullet he got after coming back to life.

Well, one thing they did was take part in a terrible crossover with Teen Titans in a dumb "Hunger Games" rip-off featuring an overpowered and annoying villain named Harvest. The story was called "The Culling," and Linkara did a review of all 4 issues. His review was, as far as I can tell, the only good thing to come out of that mess.

My favorite part of this was all the Stargate references. I was genuinely disappointed when Linkara said he was done with them. This is actually a pretty good reboot (and unlike most reboots had a decent reason for why it was rebooting at all). I like how it explains the necessity for a Legion of Superheroes in a galaxy where darn near everyone has powers: that it's the characters that make them heroes not their abilities. Add in the fact that the galaxy is only just uniting and some planets apparently have fresh wounds or old grudges, and you can understand why there's a necessity for this kind of group. I also really like the friction between Brand (ironic name for a CEO) and the President, his altruism and vision for a united galaxy versus her very clear interest in positioning Earth at the top of the heap. It's the sort of stuff that promises complex, interesting narratives in the future.

Minor correction: the one you said was probably Gates was Chameleon (Boy originally, but I think they dropped that for the reboot). The Durlans have often been shown wearing robes like that, while Gates' race isn't actually bipedal.

It bugs me that with this Garth there are multiple characters with the nickname Gar (two of which being on the Titans) and that's not even including the multiverse versions.

I recently watched the often over looked Legion of Superheroes cartoon. It came around 2006 right around Justice League Unlimited & sadly near the end of the Teen Titans shows (though unrelated). It was actually really good. Specially the second season, it kinda sucks that it got abruptly canceled apparently over the fact CBS didn't want to be known as "the super hero channel" or some other dumb reason. Still at least the 2nd season ended on a mostly happy note with wrapping most of the plot points up. If I had the money & I'd make that a Patreon request for Linkara.

I will admit I'm more Familiar with the DCAU version of the Legion of Superheroes that showed up on Superman Tas & Justice League Unlimited. Also the late 80s / Early 90s Legion that had Lobo on the team . XS I am more Familiar with from the Flash CW Arrowverse, I kinda like their Take on Brainac 5 , Mon El , Dreamer . And Marvel's riff on the legion over in X-Men with the Shi'ar Imperial Guard which I have a soft spot for I know it's weird 😅

With the comic sliding time scale and constantly changing timelines, you'd think that the writers for Legion of Super Heroes just throw away arbitrary year numbers and make their own timeline like Gundam. Go from Common Era (CE) to InterGalatic Era (IGE) That way you can always have an arbitrary amount of years between the main DC timeline and the Future timeline and leaving it inconspicuous.

DC has too many reboots while Marvel doesn't have enough (the 2015 Secret Wars would have been a perfect means of accomplishing that but nope). Also, I never considered the matter of these characters eventually becoming public domain until you brought it up.

Regarding the way they presented the covers in the TPB, there was a period in the late 90s where DC's policy seemed to be that trades should downplay that they're a collection of multiple issues and not one continuous graphic novel. They wouldn't place the covers between issues and edit out any "the end" or "to be continued" captions form the end of issues so it wasn't always clear when one issue ended and the next started. Sometimes they'd even black out caption boxes that contained story titles or editorial credits. I'm guessing that it was all a desperate attempt at appealing to "serious" graphic novel readers who looked down on serialized comics.

I'm surprised they call the sci-fi tech "star gates" and risk copyright when DC has Zeta beam tech for teleports in the modern era. Why not just make that some kind of warp drive tech and make the billionaire the decendant of Adam Strange?
@karanlalla98542 жыл бұрын
I always thought that the Legion of Superheroes should have rebooted after Crisis on Infinite Earths. Other characters like Superman and Wonder Woman got brand new origin stories, so why not the Legion ? That's always been my problem with the Legion : The premise is about superheroes in the Future, yet the the comic book stories themselves are fixated on the past, whether it's trying to keep older stories in continuity, or reboots that try to have a retro silver age tone.
