Love your videos. I just saw a recommended video that said that LinkedIn is getting rid of hashtags. Do you know anything about this? And if it's true what are other ways to target new followers?

Thanks for asking! Last I heard, LinkedIn isn’t getting rid of videos, per se, but they‘re more in the background. Your best bet for targeting people is to consistently create educational content that helps solve their problems. And make sure you regularly connect with people in your target audience, as LinkedIn prioritizes posts from 1st-degree connections. I hope that helps!

You’re asking good questions! It’s more that your post will show up in fewer hashtag categories. I hope that makes sense!

Sorry I wasn't clear. More hashtags = more chances for visibility. The hashtags work independently of each other, from what I understand. You won't get a lower ROI if you use more hashtags. The 3-5 hashtag recommendation is more for aesthetic purposes, because a ton of hashtags looks obnoxious. :-)

I get what you are saying about branded hashtags and the Taco bell example, but they are also a great way for the user to click on and explore what comes up under the hashtag. Also, working hashtags into the post can be a creative way to use hashtags. Great video otherwise.

Ivan, thank you so much for your insights. I enjoy having a conversation about this! I think that branded hashtags work best with special events (where you encourage attendees and event advocates to use a branded hashtag). And if a branded hashtag were to be used outside of an event, I'd rather see it on Instagram, where lots of hashtags are the norm, so it can live alongside more searchable hashtags more easily. I'm just not sure it's worth using on LinkedIn, where 3-5 hashtags are recommended, and the branded hashtag would take up one of those spaces.

LinkedIn got rid of the results per search for hashtags....and to make it even worse, they now have infinite scroll, so you can't even see the bottom pagination (if too many results)...do you know of any hacks for this?

Thanks for asking, Bruno! If I wanted to see what's going on in, say, #marketing, I type #marketing in the search field at the top and then **select #marketing from the hashtags in the dropdown menu**. If you don't select from the dropdown menu and just press Enter instead, the search results are a mess! I hope that helps!

Do you have any opinion on hashtags for KZbin?

I‘ve heard straight from KZbin that hashtags (and tags in general) have very little bearing on a video‘s visibility. Thumbnail click-through rates, average percentage viewed, audience engagement, and other audience behaviors are the key factors that affect how much KZbin will suggest your videos.

Titles are important that they should tease a viewer into watching a video. They don't really affect the algorithm so much. KZbin knows what your video is about even when you're uploading it, based on the words and images. And the description is helpful but not as critical as, again, ensuring you have a quality video that people want to watch all the way through.

That is correct. But don’t use a hashtag that is so obscure that no one is following it. 🙂
