It's also usually misunderstood. The Prince doesn't become Death. The Prince wants nothing less than to become Death, because if he goes to war his friends will die and he will be hurt. Vishnu becomes Death to remind the Prince that he must do his duty to the realm, no matter how badly it hurts him or how small it makes him feel. Oppenheimer doesn't become Death. The Bomb, the Gadget, becomes Death. And Oppenheimer, its creator, is reminded that he must do his duty to end the war no matter how horrible it will be.

I'm the biggest LP fan out there and I must say, when all is said and done, we may all look back and say A Thousand Suns was there best record. Its a deep, layered story of all of humanity. Its the soundtrack to our plight; our inability to let go of the fears and hatred that will eventually lead to our demise. There are instances on the record that fight this notion as well as hopeful moments, but the beauty of it all to me is the resigned feeling to reality it brings. Love LP

@OffTarget Linkin Park doesn't know what a bad album is, but I agree that this wasn't their best. That is to say, it's a really good album, I just wouldn't pick this over Hybrid Theory, over Meteora, or over Minutes to Midnight (I'd pick this over Living Things though). So all in all, good stuff.

Damn, Linkin Park has changed quite a bit since I last heard them. I liked Hybrid Theory and Meteora for a while, but grew out of it so to speak. A few of the songs from Minutes to Midnight I liked, but again, grew out of that and away from Linkin Park. But now, discovering A Thousand Suns, they're winning me back. :)

Linkin park "For months we'd been destroying and rebuilding our band" "We Didn't know any of those unorthodox ideas could be incorporated into a traditional album, but we knew we didn't want our next album to be predictable." In summary They wanted to take a different approach to this album including more smooth and deep lyrics. It was more for them to show there creative music interests then making it for the fans. In short They will move on. So stop complaining. (Source: Linkin park album)

As a fellow musician, I know how it is to create music, and we should highly respect them for trying to expand musical boundaries. If you continue to write music in the same way over and over and over, you don't progress...If you love music, then as a writer, or a band, you must always have that drive to progress, and become better.

Linkin Park has gone above and beyond expectations for me. This used to be my favorite band back when Meteora was the newest album, but I sort of moved on and started listening to different stuff, and apparently, LP did too. They've definitely come a long a way in the past 5 years.

Linkin Park put so much effort and passion into this album and all you "haters" care about is your desire for their old stuff. Not even thinking about how LP feels when they were in the process of making this album. Trying to "think out of the box" and being creative, music isn't just metal you know, none of you guys including myself have any idea how hard it is to make an album. So much stress and hard work, you know I truly respect LP for all the neglect they get from all you "haters".
@Teamloco614 жыл бұрын
The album is about a nucleur war/ fallout, if you listen, "a thousand suns" is kinda an analogy for bombs and the speeches by the guy who helped create the atom bomb, and "god save us everyone, we'll be burned inside the fires of a thousand suns" Is all about war. If you listen to the whole album in the dark it kinda scares the crap outta you. You literally expect a nuke to go off at the end. It's creepy but so musically amazing. LP forever!

the guy you are referring is Robert Oppenheimer. the one you hear in The Radiance.
@mythofechelon13 жыл бұрын
J. Robert Oppenheimer was regarded as the 'Father of the Atomic Bomb', as he was the scientific director on the Manhattan Project. When he witnessed the first Atomic explosion (codenamed 'Trinity' by Oppenheimer) he recalled the scripture you hear in The Radiance. What people don't know is that another passage also came into his mind: 'If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the mighty one'. Hence, the song and album name.

they inserted the words of a scientist who worked on the manhattan project. it sort of set a tone for the rest of the album. atleast it did for me. for those of you who haven't learned what the manhattan project was yet, it was the code name America used on the creation of the atomic bomb. It was a dark project that changed the world, forever.

I really love these three songs as a whole, but "The Requiem" is my favorite part. It's so gorgeous, yet very eerie and somehow disturbing. I listened to this around the same time that I educated myself about 9/11, and although the album is about human fear and nuclear warfare, the events of September 11th, 2001 will always be what I associate this album with. I really like that Linkin Park is experimenting with their sound. It would be really boring if they just kept doing the same stuff.

Every single song is perfect. The album play count of "A Thousand Suns" in my iTunes library currently is at 49, and it's not getting boring at all. @TheCityLightz: Requiem, follow lyrics, ends with countdown (I didn't hear that initially) so that's when the nukes go off = radiance; and Oppenheimer quote referring to said nuke(s). Burning in the skies then is about destroyed bridges (but more is destroyed of course), which we didn't deserve anyway with mankind in general being immoral, war-loving etc... Dunno about empty spaces, and when they come for me doesn't seem to be part of the theme, at least initially. Or I don't get it. :)

LP is brilliant. They strike a partnership with either the Pope or Harold Camping to make an apocalyptic theme album and use the Bhagavad Gita which is purely Indian and Hindu to talk about a Christian theme which is Apocalypse. Shinoda has got the best brains.
