Trade this life to something new is spiritually strong for a person to say.. Idk maybe he s already have everything in this world he wanted.. Till he dont know what it takes to move on, cuz he already got it all means he already reach the edge spiritually This is not the end or begining means he s gambling with his decision and its out of his control Hold on to God if it be sin or next step to this something new If my writing its true, then this is his goodbye song

This is easily one of the best alternative rock/alternative pop songs ever written. Just absolutely timeless, a perfectly crafted song that still sounds so fresh and continues to age so beautifully. There's just no other song quite like this one, it's so special. Their songwriting is unmatched, how can something be so perfectly catchy and accessible/relatable while also being so out of the box? The sonic palette of this song is so incredibly gorgeous, the melodies and lyrics to go with, the unconventional structure, the bridge with all the electronic effects and layers of sound, and his high pitched singing over Mike's hook at the end....god. Also that singular distant droning synth during the first chorus where it's just that sound in the back really drives home the feeling of alienation and emptiness in this song so well, like you're floating in the vast nothingness of space. A Thousand Suns was an absolute work of art. I really hope they make more songs like this with Emily.

Many people believe this is the quintessential Linkin Park song. I am one of those people, but I also believe this is a song that is quintessential to all music. The two vocalists, Mike Shinoda and Chester Bennington, are famous as they form such an iconic duo. Shinoda takes the reigns by performing melodically and lyrically intricate raps. This is paired with Bennington’s universally recognisable timbre and the softer, drawn-out delivery of somber lyrics. These voices intertwine and complement each other so perfectly. Although Chester was taken from this world far too young, hearing this song makes it feel like he is still here. It’s a bittersweet feeling though; sometimes it hurts to hear him sing with such raw, powerful emotion. There is so much on to comment on about the instrumental compositions, I don’t think any of my descriptions could do it justice. The introduction of the orchestral instruments is the definition of bliss. I believe the main idea is that the whole song is a masterfully composed crescendo. While the first 2 minutes is musically rich, a glorious buildup begins at 2:17, lasting to the end of the song. Here the orchestra, drums, vocals, guitars, and every other element, gently swells up into an everlasting, euphoric climax at 3:01; an outcry of eternal passion. Like holy hell, they really were in the studio and said ‘how can we make our fans cry?’ And then pull this off. I am also fond of the lyrics. The one that stands out is ‘The hardest part of ending is starting again’. This speaks volumes. Another point of note is the hook itself: ‘All I want to do is trade this life for something new; holding on to what I haven’t got’. Notice how each time Chester sings it, he sings it differently. As the crescendo progresses, he sings it with increasing force and intensity. Him singing it the last 2 times brings the song to a satisfying close, as he reaches a high note that the listener has been anticipating for the previous 4 minutes. The wait was worth it, and Linkin Park has encapsulated what is essentially a perfect song to me. I would change nothing. This is one of my favourite songs in the entire world and I’m grateful it exists.

It's crazy that when I was at the worse stage of my life, suicidal and depressed, this was one of the few songs I would derive comfort from. I even wanted to get a tattoo of the phrase "this is not the end, this is not the beginning." "This is not the end (...)" to remind me that the world hadn't just suddenly stopped for me. That life was going to keep going, and that one day, I would realize that that point in my life was not the end. The other part, "(...)this is not the beginning", to remind me that I had felt pain before, that I wasn't new at this, and therefore, I would handle it, I could fight this. So, "This is not the end, this is not the beginning" comforted me, even just for a few seconds, because it told me that this was not the end of my life, but just the middle. Maybe Chester knew about the impact his music had on others, maybe he didn't. Regardless, depression is a horrible, horrible, and insidious monster. If it gets to the point of actual suicide, you know that pain was immense, more immense than we'd like to know. Feeling suicidal is like running out of oxygen in an empty room, and desperately looking for a way out so that you can breathe. Except that you have lost all hope that there is one, and you just want to end the pain, and you feel like your only way out is the worse way out. I wish he hadn't gone this way. I wish that nobody had to go this way. And anyone watching the news now, who is feeling suicidal, I hope you try to endure the pain just a bit longer, because even if you cant imagine one way out now (that doesn't end your life), I promise you there IS one. I waited a bit longer, and I found my will to live once again. Hope was returned to me. Rest in peace, Chester.

This is not the end This is not the beginning, Just a voice like a riot Rocking every revision But you listen to the tone And the violent rhythm And though the words sound steady Something empty's within 'em We say Yeah! With fists flying up in the air Like we're holding onto something That's invisible there, 'Cause we're living at the mercy of The pain and the fear Until we get, forget it, Let it all disappear. Waiting for the end to come Wishing I had strength to stand This is not what I had planned It's out of my control Flying at the speed of light Thoughts we're spinning in my head So many things were left unsaid It's hard to let you go I know what it takes to move on, I know how it feels to lie, All I wanna do Is trade this life for something new Holding on to what I haven't got Sitting in an empty room Trying to forget the past This was never meant to last, I wish it wasn't so I know what it takes to move on, I know how it feels to lie, All I wanna do Is trade this life for something new Holding on to what I haven't got Yeah, yeah What was left when that fire was gone? I thought it felt right but that right was wrong All caught up in the eye of the storm And trying to figure out what it's like moving on And I don't even know what kind of things I've said My mouth kept moving and my mind went dead So, picking up the pieces, now where to begin? The hardest part of ending is starting again! All I wanna do Is trade this life for something new Holding on to what I haven't got This is not the end This is not the beginning, Just a voice like a riot Rocking every revision But you listen to the tone And the violent rhythm Though the words sound steady Something empty's within 'em (Holding on to what I haven't got) We say Yeah! In my own opinion this is the most underrated LP song. It´s a song understanding the people out there understanding their pain, understanding what it means to move on, not saying ah come on everything will get better just dont be sad anymore. Yes sometimes you want to trade your life for something else and sometimes the pain and the struggle is just too big.

This is not the end, this is not the beginning Just a voice like a riot rocking every revision But you listen to the tone and the violent rhythm And though the words sound steady, something empty's within 'em We say "Yeah!" with fists flying up in the air Like we're holding onto something that's invisible there 'Cause we're living at the mercy of the pain and the fear Until we get, forget it, let it all disappear [Chester] Waiting for the end to come Wishing I had strength to stand This is not what I had planned It's out of my control Flying at the speed of light Thoughts were spinning in my head So many things were left unsaid It's hard to let you go (Oh) I know what it takes to move on (Oh) I know how it feels to lie (Oh) All I want to do Is trade this life for something new Holding on to what I haven't got Sitting in an empty room Trying to forget the past This was never meant to last I wish it wasn't so (Oh) I know what it takes to move on (Oh) I know how it feels to lie (Oh) All I want to do Is trade this life for something new Holding on to what I haven't got [Mike] Yeah, yeah What was left when that fire was gone? I thought it felt right but that right was wrong All caught up in the eye of the storm And trying to figure out what it's like moving on And I don't even know what kind of things I've said My mouth kept moving and my mind went dead So, picking up the pieces, now where to begin? The hardest part of ending is starting again! [Chester] Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh… All I wanna do Is trade this life for something new Holding on to what I haven't got [Mike] This is not the end, this is not the beginning Just a voice like a riot rocking every revision (I'm holding on to what I haven't got) But you listen to the tone and the violent rhythm Though the words sound steady, something empty's within 'em We say "Yeah!" with fists flying up in the air Like we're holding onto something that's invisible there (Holding on to what I haven't got) 'Cause we're living at the mercy of the pain and the fear Until we get it, forget it, let it all disappear

RIP Chester. Linkin Park may not be the band i listen the most to these days, but they were a major part of my early teen years and i still enjoy their stuff from time to time. The gut wrenching screams and touching singing of Chester largely made this band what it is. I don't know exactly what to say right now. I'd just wish he had called for help instead of ending it all. If you have suicidal thoughts please talk to someone about it. It really helps. Maybe not in the beginning, but in time you'll find that opening your heart to someone (pretty much anyone), will make you feel less alone with your problems. Look out for yourselves out there. Here's to Chester Bennington.

I'm sure this song means different things to different people. I lost my marriage this year, back in May. And I've been close to the edge almost every night since. This song, along with a good amount of others by Linkin Park, have kept me going. It meets me at the place where my heart broke, makes me face it, and then points me in a direction with a new mindset: it's time to start again. Every day is a new chance to start over. He couldn't save himself but he continually saves all of us. Rest easy Chester. You and your band are heroes still, even today.
