I got to see Linkin Park once back in 2012 in Poland. Since it was a festival there were people who left the crowd once their bands had finished, when they were leaving there wouid open up space for them which i took as an opportunit to move closer to the stage. I got all the way to the very front after a while. Later on I got to shake hands with Mike and a high five with Chester. I was so damn hyped after that. The concert was just 2 weeks before Living Things was released actually. :)

This is one of the band's most epic, cinematic songs. The closing act of the song is just mesmerizing, the walls of guitar exploding in your ears just conjures up a feeling, ironically, of pure power.

I saw then live twice here in Brazil. On Living Things Tour, in 2012 and also in 2017, on One More Light Tour, two months before Chester passed away.

I'm so sorry you never got to see them live, that's a damn shame! Please, if you ever get the chance to see Mike Shinoda perform live, you go! He's amazing on his own as well, super energetic with well put together sets, and such a sweet man to fans. I saw Linkin Park first on their Minutes to Midnight tour in Germany, then twice on their A Thousand Suns tour in both Florida (first and only time in the US, seeing a friend) and in Denmark. I also saw them perform two songs acoustically up close at a fan event in London. Chester's voice so mind-blowingly powerful to witness in person. No microphone, but it felt like he just filled up the entire room. They played Leave Out All The Rest and The Messenger. Hearing The Messenger performed like that was incredible. I'm so grateful I went to that event, the fan community was fantastic and almost instantly close. We did charity work together and played football, then went out together. I made a friend there who trusted me with his phone and camera the next day while he was at the concert. That's the sort of community of trust and respect Linkin Park somehow created through their music.

Totally agree, this track is def the strongest! Got to see Linkin Park one time (think it was around 2010), but had bad seats up near the ceiling of a smaller arena, where the sound sucked. A lot of reverb/bass rumble that took away most of the experience. Always wanted to see them again, but they didn't visit Sweden much at all. And when I had my chance in 2017 (I really wanted to go to this festival for LP & SOAD), I ended up deciding to not go when I had no one to go with, 2 hours drive away and I didn't appreciate One More Light enough. My BIGGEST REGRET! 20 days later Chester was no more

Living Things is an album that, IMO, is more consistently good than A Thousand Suns. It's also an album I would rank lower than A Thousand Suns. ATS is a weird, divisive album that some people LOVE and some people HATE, and I understand both sides of those feelings. But the writing is among the best LP ever did, and as weird as it is, it was bold, it was a risk, and it's an album I have a ton of respect for, even if I think there are a few misses on it. Living Things, on the other hand, feels like an album that's playing it much safer. It feels like it's meant to be a crowd pleaser, giving the people who liked ATS some more electronic beats while re-introducing rap and rock into their sound. The problem with that is that while it's definitely consistently solid, it never reaches the same highs as either ATS or any of their pre-Minutes To Midnight work. Speaking of MtM, I think Living Things suffers from the same problem as that album: the last third is definitely much weaker than what came before it. After Roads Untraveled, the album really doesn't hit a high note again until Powerless. It opens strong, Lost In The Echo is arguably my favourite on the album, and it's the OPENER, but while I don't think it's low points are BAD, they're definitely skippable. Until It Breaks is a weird mishmash of a bunch of song ideas that weren't enough to stand on their own, and Skin To Bone is just a nothing of a song, IMO. Still, I do like Living Things. It's just definitely not my favourite from them. Anyway, next up is The Hunting Party, which is (IMO) their most underrated album, and my third favourite from them. Look forward to seeing your thoughts! Won't spoil it, but if you want more screams... you'll get them.

late response btw, and A Thousand Suns is my favorite album from Linkin Park. What songs were a miss to you? Just curious 🗿🗿
@baylaust3 жыл бұрын
@@NobodyJae For me, personally? Robot Boy and Blackout didn't really do anything for me. And this will be an unpopular one, but I don't like The Messenger at all. I think Chester's vocals don't match the rest of the song.
@NobodyJae3 жыл бұрын
@@baylaust I find Robot Boy a miss as well, and for me it actually took quite a few listens for me to actually like Blackout/Messenger. I think The Messenger sounds better live when Chester sings it lower.

The big problem here is that most of you guys are Hybrid Theory and Meteora fans, and not Linkin Park fans. MtM is a fantastic album, and their best IMO. Even better than the previous ones. But since MtM you guys were always expecting the same teenagers songs from their first two albuns.

@@BrunoMatheeus_true, personally i like all their songs they released because i keep listening and listening to them and hear sounds that i never focused myself on in their songs so it’s like if i listen to a new one all the time and it makes me wanna revisit their songs every day and if a song seems mid for me i will listen to every detail until i like it and hear all of them at the same time 😂

Definitely a good closer. I guess I'm in the minority but I absolutely love Living Things, I listen to it all the time. I really like their more electronic sounding stuff and I think Living Things is more consistent than A Thousand Suns. I see a lot of people are super excited for The Hunting Party which is actually my least favorite LP album lol. I just don't like the style of music they did on that album. People like it because it's heavier but it's a very different style of heaviness than their early stuff and I don't think they pull it off as well.

Normally I agree with a lot of your commentary, but I'm not sure any screaming would have suited this particular song. At least, I think it would have changed the vibe quite a bit. I think Chester managed to put quite a bit of power and emotion into those last repetitions of "powerless", while maintaining a fitting smoothness, at least to me. That said, if they had a version of the song with a bit more grit, I wouldn't mind hearing it to see if I'm wrong here!

Yeah this album is good but not as good as the others. I think the next album (The Hunting Party) will be more up your alley. Don’t want to spoil anything or get your hopes too high but I think you’ll like that more than this one. Linkin Park have amazing closers though. This, Numb, Little things give you away, Messenger and the closer from the next album are all fantastic
"This song could've been the end credits for Gravity." Nah man, it was the end credits for Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Music taste is a helluva thing. It's why I don't really tell people they're wrong about such and such song. Sure we can objectively try to judge structure or vocal choices in songs, but it does come down to taste a majority of time. I think I'm a bit of an outlier in the LP community that simply doesn't like this song. It has great things about it, but I think something about it is missing. A song that you thought was only ok, track 2 "In My Remains", I feel is a million times better than "Powerless". I just think this song had potential that it didn't realize. The beat was cool, the chorus was ok, but idk. It needed elevating. Despite "Until It Breaks" and "Powerless" being off for me, this is a powerhouse of an album. I'd go: 1.) Minutes to Midnight 2.) Hybrid Theory 3.) Meteora 4.) Living Things 5.) A Thousand Suns 6.) One More Light 7.) The Hunting Party
