[Mike:] Yeah! Yo! This is not the end, this is not the beginning Just a voice like a riot rocking every revision But you listen to the tone and the violent rhythm And though the words sound steady something empty's within them We say yeah with fists flying up in the air Like we're holding onto something that's invisible there 'Cause we're living at the mercy of the pain and the fear Until we get it, forget it, let it all disappear [Chester:] Waiting for the end to come Wishing I had strength to stand This is not what I had planned It's out of my control Flying at the speed of light Thoughts were spinning in my head So many things were left unsaid It's hard to let you go (Oh) I know what it takes to move on (Oh) I know how it feels to lie (Oh) All I want to do Is trade this life for something new Holding on to what I haven't got Sitting in an empty room Trying to forget the past This was never meant to last I wish it wasn't so (Oh) I know what it takes to move on (Oh) I know how it feels to lie (Oh) All I want to do Is trade this life for something new Holding on to what I haven't got (Yeah, yeah!) [Mike:] What was left when that fire was gone? I thought it felt right but that right was wrong All caught up in the eye of the storm And trying to figure out what it's like moving on And I don't even know what kind of things I said My mouth kept moving and my mind went dead So I'm picking up the pieces, now where to begin The hardest part of ending is starting again Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh… [Chester ('til end):] All I want to do Is trade this life for something new Holding on to what I haven't got I'm holding on to what I haven't got I'm holding on to what I haven't got [Mike:] This is not the end, this is not the beginning Just a voice like a riot rocking every revision (I'm holding on to what I haven't got) But you listen to the tone and the violent rhythm Though the words sound steady something empty's within them We say yeah with fists flying up in the air Like we're holding onto something that's invisible there (Holding on to what I haven't got) 'Cause we're living at the mercy of the pain and the fear Until we get it, forget it, let it all disappear

Goddam, Chester was a vocalist in a class of his own, the best ever of all time, it was so effortless for him. Love Chester and his music. He might have been an amazing father..... right up until he committed suicide. Dude had a wife and six kids and yet couldn't find anything to live for. my personal interpretation about the song is that Linkin Park is evolving and they are venturing into new materials, trying to make different yet better musics in every album. So the song kinda tells the fan that they do not want to stay in one type of song like the METEORA or Hybrid Theory ..so this is something that they want..moving forward and creating new sound. That is what i like about this band is that they sound different and i really appreciate all the new kind of songs and materials that theyre trying to bring in every album. That is a pro right there. That is a true musician and LP really are in they're class of their own.

I mean sry but that's definitely not the meaning of the song. LP makes songs that people can relate too and a song where Chester's sings "waiting for the end" and other depressive stuff is definitely not meant to be based on music. I think this song is entirely about how someone feels when they have depression. And Chester was only holding on to those things that he hasn't got yet
