Do you wonder what the difference is between ‘however’ and ‘nevertheless’? These synonyms have the same function and meaning and both are formal academic words, though there is a subtle difference when it comes to usage and context.
The same applies to ‘but’ and ‘yet’, ‘although’ and ‘even though’, and other contrast words. We also look at the use of ‘but’ + ‘nevertheless’ and ‘however’ + ‘despite’ within one sentence or clause.
In this video we look at all these words in terms of their grammatical use as well as their stylistic use. There are plenty of sample sentences to help make the distinctions clear.
This lesson is a little advanced and may be a bit confusing, but hopefully useful.

Forms of Use: . , (Most Common) ; , (Smoother Transition Between Ideas) , , (Uncommon) . ; , Beginning of Sentence Mid-Sentence End of Sentence This Transition Word Is Formal and Is Stronger When Used at the Beginning of a Sentence and Milder Mid-Sentence and the End of Sentence. It Makes Contrast Between Ideas Slightly More Clear But I Don't Want to Use It Even Though People Use This Transition Word.

I have read many things. That is because I love reading. Although, when you say that "reading" is a great way to learn how correctly use words, according to their grammatical function (And I agree with you) I want to point out some observations, nevertheless. :-) I read about 30 book in 2020, so far. And I came across to a frequent problem: the personal style of each author. Each author has its personal way to delivery its ideas, and many times they "twist" the grammar rules a little. So, I ask you: How to get over those "twisting" and avoid to learn something wrong; once I don't know everything about grammar? What sources are reliable? Currently, I have tried to fix this problem reading many and more different authors. But I'm concerned to, even though, learn something wrong.

Sir, I have a doubt?AS IF Are these Sentences correct? Do you agree with this? Could you please tell me? After as if and as though we often use a past tense with a present meaning. This shows that the comparison is unreal. A present tense, on the other hand, shows that we are talking about real and possible situations. 1)She talks as if / as though she knows everything. (Perhaps she knows everything.) 2)She talks as if / as though she knew everything. (But she doesn’t. 3)They look as if / as though they know each other. (Perhaps they know each other.) 4)They look as if / as though they knew each other. (But they don’t know each other.)
