Just FYI for all the people in the comments, the "Ahhhhhh! I hate you so much right now!" Is not just a random scream, it's a reference to a song by Kelis (yes, the one who sings Milkshake). The chorus to her song Caught Out There is "Ahhhh! I hate you so much right now!" It's notable for being the first time a female rapper screamed on a track, and it's pretty cool that of all people, Kelis would get a shout out / reference in a Linkin Park song

This version seems so much more...sinister, and connected to his depression and how he was abused. The quieter vocals just make it feel like his demons are waiting in the shadows, waiting for an opportunity when he's vulnerable, unlike the final version where it seems like he's confronting those demons head on. Damn...Crawling, lyrically, is LP's best song ever recorded IMO

@@livay8401 Same can be said to OP .... This is legit just a slap together demo, nothing more nothing else ... People should stop projecting crap. This track is missing so many things as instruments, FX. Basically everything and legit sounds like white noise for most part. The whispering is present in the final mix but with FX. I wont bother to waste time explaining everything but it's just a DEMO, it's an idea not an final mix ... also the whole band contributed to this, not just Chester and his ''mental state''. The only ones who suffer from ''demons'' are people who listen to things like Korn, LP and depressing nonsense like these bands, so as too busy projecting their delusions onto others, things that don't exist... Taste reality for a change and stfu, especially things you cant grasp. Even Chester didn't know wtf was going through his head and this have nothing to do with being abused, his brain was simply messed up and the music industry didn't help one bit anyway. The portion of this cursed fanbase also didn't made much of a difference for the better ...

It's so difficult to deal with everyone else's expectations while also dealing with our own for ourselves, coupled with past issues and trauma and what we're supposed to do next can literally make someone crawl inside their own skin with anxiety and depression as I know all too well. I appreciate that the hard version used to be one of my favorite pieces of music but after hearing the slow version with One More Light, the slow version of this hits me so much harder because when you slow it down and really listen to the lyrics it really hits home with what the lyrics really meant to Chester and all of us in our own way. But getting to hear this raw version is such a blessing and any insight into the creative prosses of my favorite band becoming who they are today makes me so happy. keep doing what you're doing guys.

I remember hearing most of these demos back in 2003 when eBay was not even a decade old, I begged my parents to buy these two (obviously pirated) CDs containing most of these demos released in the 20th anniversary Hybrid Theory re release along with some live tracks (that are on here as well lol). In The End and Crawling demos to this day are still some of my favorite LP songs, along with Dedicated , Carousel, And One. For some reason I was expecting QWERTY to be on here, can’t find that on the mainstream music services. I’m just glad I can add these demos to my playlist now. Also there are a few more Hybrid Theory/Xero demos floating around that I wish were included, but I can see why they were left off. I really hope they release the Meteora demos some day. RIP Chester.

During the chorus, the vocals get lost in the mix. Its good that the final mix had the vocals brought out a lot more. I like the adlibs during the verses though, which I think adds a lot. I like the vocals during "so insecure" (the layering).

I love listening to old demos, and the ones I've heard from Linkin Park have been amazing - in a different kind of way from the "real" release versions. The thing that becomes very obvious is the songwriting qualities, and the search for That Sound. Wonderful to hear!

I’m glad the version we have on Hybrid Theory doesn’t have the distorted, canny-sounding verses. I actually think having the quiet “so insecure” would’ve made the chorus we know much more powerful if it was introduced right before the last chorus. I think it was good choice to do away with the pre chorus layering of Chester’s voice. I’m indifferent on the bridge. I like how the vocals were brought forward in the final studio version, all in all.
