One thing you might update is the reasoning for recommending the middle one. 50$ for the jump from 512 to 1tb is pretty reasonable, the small ssds still haven't really materialised in the same cheap and available manner as the large ones and unless you already have a 1 tb lying around you'll definitely pay more than 50$ for that (of course you'll also have a 512 in the upgrade mix to add to that value and in my eyes 512 is totally enough on these, especially when you add in a micro ssd and offload some of the lighter indie games)

@thespectator331211 ай бұрын
Convert typical capacity to Ah: 4700mAh / 1000 = 4.7Ah Use the typical capacity and power consumption to calculate theoretical runtime: Runtime (hours) = Battery capacity (Ah) * Battery voltage (V) / Device power consumption (W) Runtime ≈ 4.7Ah * 11.61V / 35W ≈ 1.56 hours. So, depending on how you look at it, 1.56 hours is either pretty close to or slightly less than 2 hours.

Took the battery capacity details from the tear down section of this video.
@billy65bob11 ай бұрын
@@thespectator3312 even taking the claimed values, a 50WHour battery could only deliver 35W for 1h26m at best, and 10W for 5 hours. The details you gave there suggests it's closer to a 55WHour battery, but even that only extends the runtime to 1h33m (this is 1.56 hours) and 5h30m respectively. This is still considerably shorter than the respective 2h and 8h claims.

Jury is out for me on this. The TDPs seem a little wild and I feel like the Arc iGPU is a bit of an unknown quantity. 53 Wh battery is a good move but its only 3 more than they managed to squeeze into the deck which is a lot better on the juice. I half expect the Arc gpu won't be up to the same kind of Snuff as the Z1 Extreme, which makes me wonder how much better it would be vs the Deck given its probably also going to be using more power. And how exactly are they squaring 2 hour run time at 35W TDP with a 53 Wh battery? The deck running at 15W needs 23W total, the Ally at 35W needs about 43W total (hence sub 1 hour run times). So I am assuming this is going to be the same ball park. How do you get 2 hours run time if you're blasting through 40Wh in an hour?

Here's the calculation: Convert mAh to Ah: 4700mAh / 1000 = 4.7Ah Calculate theoretical runtime: Runtime (hours) = Battery capacity (Ah) * Battery voltage (V) / Device power consumption (W) Runtime = 4.7Ah * 11.6V / 35W Runtime ≈ 1.56 hours

MSI is my second choice after ROG, both are amazing companies and i prefer the claw slightly more than the ally

I´m not sure about MSI, my laptop screen has failed with 2,5 years. So out of warraty. And one USB port don´t work properly. Looks cool but ... some quality issues.

For me both a sim slot and oculink port are a must to me for a hand held. I know the GPD win mini can use a sim card but its using the sim adapter for the GPD WIN 4 (name might be wrong but its the one with the side kick style sliding keyboard). If the updated 2024 model works well with sim card AND continues to have oculink (not shre why theyd drop it) i will buy one. Both as a phonr and a PC repalcement.

My most recent MSI is the Pulse GL66 and I am looking forward for this one to get sold in Europe, especially The Netherlands, although I don't mind driving a bit into Germany.

to the tunderbolt point in theory usb 4 shares the egpu compatibility since it is compatible with tunderbolt 3 so technically amd devices can have egpu it must be a decission from the manufacturer though and it isnt as fast.

I love how we have so many handheld PC's being manufactured these days, growing up we had Game Boy or Game Gear, one was way smaller and used way less batteries lol. I think I still like the look of the ROG Ally best out of all but this one is very compelling.

I may have finally decided which one of these I’m buying.
